Painter (3-9) took the loss Tuesday as the Phillies fell 6-5 to the Astros, coughing up five runs on 10 hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six.

Four of the hits off the 23-year-old righty went for extra bases, including homers by Christian Walker in the second inning and Cam Smith in the fourth. The outing snapped Painter's quality start streak at three, and while he's still prone to rough nights, his overall results have been improving. Since the beginning of August, he's kept the ball in the yard in five of seven trips to the mound, delivering a 3.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 38:12 K:BB over 39.1 innings. Painter will look to shake this one off in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Atlanta.

Carroll will be held out of the lineup again Wednesday in Kansas City and is scheduled to undergo imaging on his lower back Thursday when the Diamondbacks return home, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Carroll hasn't started a game since Sunday, though he did appear off the bench during Monday's game versus the Royals. The Diamondbacks are idle Thursday before beginning a homestand against the Rangers on Friday. Once the imaging results are in, more should be known about whether Carroll could return to action this weekend.

Smith-Shawver (0-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Rays after allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three over 3.1 innings.

Smith-Shawver immediately fell behind when Junior Caminero launched a 455-foot solo homer in the first inning, though Atlanta quickly tied the game. The right-hander's outing unraveled in the third, when Liam Hicks' two-run homer put Tampa Bay ahead for good before Victor Mesa added an RBI single. Smith-Shawver returned for the fourth but recorded only one out before being replaced by Brent Suter after a Yandy Diaz double, leaving Smith-Shawver with a 7.71 ERA through his first five starts of the season.

Wesneski (5-1) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up three runs on five hits over six innings in a 6-5 victory over the Phillies. He struck out three.

The right-hander carried a shutout into the sixth inning before fading, with a two-run homer by Trea Turner accounting for most of the damage off him, but Wesneski still held on for his fourth quality start of the year in his eighth trip to the mound. Since completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery and making his season debut in late July, Wesneski has produced a 3.35 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB over 45.2 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is set to come on the road this weekend in Tampa Bay.

Peralta (8-11) earned the win Tuesday against Atlanta after allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out two over six innings.

Peralta navigated a difficult first inning, allowing three consecutive singles before escaping a bases-loaded jam with no further damage than just a run. He settled in from there, retiring 16 of the final 18 batters he faced and completing six innings on 92 total pitches. Peralta has now won three consecutive starts while allowing just two runs across 18 innings during that stretch, continuing his strong turnaround since joining Tampa Bay at the trade deadline.

The Orioles outrighted Suarez to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.

Suarez has the ability to elect free agency, which he has done multiple times already this season before ultimately re-signing with the Orioles. The 36-year-old has logged a 4.12 ERA and 41:20 K:BB over 59 innings for Baltimore in 2026.

Anderson (4-6) took the loss Tuesday as the Tigers were downed 3-2 by the Twins, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

Detroit took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Kevin McGonigle homer, but Anderson gave it right back in the top of the sixth by serving up a two-run shot to Kody Clemens on his final pitch of the night. Anderson has lasted at least five innings in four of his last five outings, posting a 3.51 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 23:13 K:BB in 25.2 innings over that stretch, but he remains the most likely candidate to lose his rotation spot if Jack Flaherty (forearm) is cleared to return before the end of the year. Anderson lines up to make his next start on the road early next week in Toronto.

Perez (forearm) began a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday, striking out two in a perfect frame.

It's the first game action since late July for Perez, who is coming back from a left forearm strain. Perez has been terrific since joining the Mets, posting a 4.21 ERA but an impressive 32:5 K:BB over 25.2 innings. He should be activated in the coming days.

Clemens went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Tigers.

The 30-year-old slugger played hero Tuesday, taking Drew Anderson deep in the sixth inning to flip the script on a 2-1 deficit. Clemens has reached 25 homers on the season for the first time in his career, and four of them have come in the last 11 games -- a stretch in which he sports a .243/.370/.568 slash line with seven RBI and eight runs.

Andujar (wrist) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, going 1-for-4 with an RBI double.

Andujar has been sidelined since just after the All-Star break with a fractured right wrist, but he's finally advanced to playing in games. The 31-year-old should rejoin the active roster soon as the Padres fight for a playoff spot. Once he does return, Andujar could see regular reps at designated hitter.
