Kirby (8-10) took the loss against the Brewers on Thursday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 3.1 innings.

Kirby surrendered all six runs in a nightmare first inning, when he allowed 12 hard-hit balls overall while generating just six whiffs on 84 pitches. It continued an inconsistent year for the 28-year-old, who has now allowed 11 earned runs over his past two starts after yielding just one earned run through his first two August outings. He owns a 4.18 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 117:33 K:BB across 140 innings this season and will aim to rebound in a home matchup with the Phillies next week.

Hess (undisclosed) was transferred to the 60-day injured list at Double-A Somerset on Thursday, Conor Foley of YES Network reports.

Hess will miss the remainder of the season, finishing his 2026 campaign with a 4.45 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 65:30 K:BB across 56.2 innings spanning 16 starts. The 23-year-old was believed to have a chance to make his MLB debut this season, but injuries got in the way. Hess was the 26th overall pick in the 2024 Draft.

In seven games since getting promoted to Triple-A Toledo, Briceno has gone just 4-for-24 with no home runs and nine strikeouts.

Briceno earned the promotion by slashing .297/.382/.672 with eight home runs across 76 plate appearances for Double-A Erie earlier in the season. So far, Triple-A hasn't been as welcoming for the 21-year-old, but he's shown good offensive upside throughout his time in the minors and should settle in with the Mud Hens eventually. Briceno remains the Tigers' top catching prospect and could start knocking on the door of the majors next year, though Dillon Dingler has solidified himself as Detroit's answer behind the plate, so Briceno may have to shift to a different position when he makes his MLB debut.

Since joining the Detroit organization in the trade that sent Tarik Skubal to the Dodgers, Hope is slashing just .149/.241/.319 with 17 strikeouts in 12 games for Double-A Erie.

Hope was considered the best part of the return for Skubal, and at just 21 years old, he still has a bright future with his new organization. However, the young outfielder has scuffled in the early going with the Sea Wolves. Hope performed much better for Double-A Tulsa before the trade, posting a .293/.369/.530 slash line with 23 home runs and 18 stolen bases across 94 contests, so he has shown he can produce at this level. Better days should be ahead for the top prospect.

In eight appearances since returning from the 7-day injured list in mid-July, Wiggins has posted a 10.06 ERA for Triple-A Iowa.

Wiggins has yet to really find his groove at any point during the season for the Iowa Cubs, as he's now sporting an 8.64 ERA and 2.00 WHIP overall across 25 innings. The top prospect is showing some promise with 33 strikeouts, though his 26 walks are reason for concern, and he'll have to exhibit better control before Chicago considers brining him up to the majors for the first time. At this point, Wiggins will simply look to stay fully healthy down the stretch and try to post some better results, with an eye toward potentially making his MLB debut in 2027.

The Diamondbacks signed Espinal to a minor-league contract Thursday.

Espinal has been assigned to Triple-A Reno. The veteran infielder was released by the Rangers last month after he failed to earn a promotion to the big leagues following nearly four weeks with Texas' Triple-A affiliate. Espinal is joining his third organization of the 2026 season. He previously appeared in 36 games for the Dodgers, slashing .268/.276/.375 with four extra-base hits, seven RBI, five runs scored and a 1:8 BB:K across 60 trips to the plate.

The Mariners are expected to select Anderson's contract from Double-A Arkansas to start Saturday's game against the Cubs, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Widely viewed as one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball, Anderson has been incredible at Double-A this season, pitching to a ludicrous 1.06 ERA and 0.64 WHIP to go with a 135:13 K:BB across 93.1 innings. The 22-year-old's dominance will allow him to skip Triple-A entirely and head straight to the big leagues, further bolstering a Mariners rotation that's put up a 3.89 ERA this year. His first test in the big leagues will come against a Cubs offense that's logged a .772 OPS since the beginning of the month, but the young lefty is still worth rostering in virtually all fantasy formats.

The Astros recalled Delgado from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday.

Delgado's last MLB stint was July 19 when he started at second base prior to getting optioned the next day. Since then, the 26-year-old has slashed .304/.383/.451 with a home run and four stolen bases across 116 plate appearances in 26 games. In a corresponding move Thursday, the Astros designated Nelson Velazquez for assignment.

Velazquez will end up as the necessary roster casualty needed to make room for Raynel Delgado, who was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday. Velazquez went 0-for-4 with a sacrifice fly during his 10-day stint with the Astros but owns a .764 OPS across 163 plate appearances in the minors this season.

Manager Matt Quatraro said that Garcia is likely to be placed on the injured list after suffering a left hamstring strain during Thursday's game against the Athletics, Joel Goldberg of Royals.tv reports.

Garcia suffered the injury while rounding third base in the first inning and came out of the game immediately afterward. The 26-year-old had been playing in just his fourth game since returning from a nearly two-month stay on the IL caused by a hand injury and is now set to go back on the shelf for at least the remainder of August. Nick Loftin will likely resume serving as Kansas City's primary third baseman.
