  • Kyler Murray QB | ARI

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Won't practice Wednesday

Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon said Wednesday that Murray (foot) will not practice, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Gannon said "we'll see" regarding Murray's status for Week 6, echoing his comments from Monday. The starting quarterback missed just three snaps during the third quarter of Arizona's 22-21 loss to the Titans in Week 5 due to the injury, but he now appears up-in-the-air for Sunday's road matchup against the Colts. Murray will have two more opportunities to practice before the Cardinals have to assign him an injury designation for Sunday, but if he can't go, Jacoby Brissett will be in line to draw a start at Indianapolis.

  • Bailey Zappe QB | NYJ

Bailey Zappe: Could be added to roster

The Browns could promote Zappe to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.

Cleveland released its updated unofficial depth chart for Week 6 on Tuesday, with Dillon Gabriel as the starting quarterback and Shedeur Sanders being listed as the backup after the Browns shipped Joe Flacco to the Bengals on Tuesday. However, Sanders may not necessarily serve as the No. 2 quarterback come Sunday. Instead, the Browns may view Zappe -- who has made nine career NFL starts -- as being more game-ready than the rookie Sanders, who could remain inactive on game days as the team's emergency No. 3 quarterback.

  • J.J. McCarthy QB | MIN

Vikings' J.J. McCarthy: Ready for on-field work

Head coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday that McCarthy (ankle) will get "extensive work" on the field while the Vikings are on bye Week 6, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Assuming McCarthy's right high-ankle sprain responds well to the on-field activity over the next few days, the second-year quarterback is expected to be reintegrated into practices in Week 7 following a three-week absence. Veteran Carson Wentz started in each of the last three games while McCarthy has been sidelined and led Minnesota to a 2-1 record, but Wentz's status is now in question after he was briefly forced out of this past Sunday's win over the Browns with a left shoulder injury. O'Connell didn't provide many details on Wentz's injury Monday, beyond noting that the 32-year-old is "pretty sore" and set for further evaluation. The practice activity of both quarterbacks will be worth monitoring in Week 7, and O'Connell will likely take into account the health of both signal-callers before naming a starter ahead of the Vikings' next game Oct. 19 versus the Eagles.

  • Tommy Mellott: Cut from practice squad

The Saints cut Mellott from the practice squad Tuesday.

Mellott was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Raiders but failed to make the team out of training camp as a developmental project. The former college quarterback has been trying to make it as a receiver in the pros.

  • Jaxson Dart QB | NYG

Giants' Jaxson Dart: In clear for Thursday night game

Dart (hamstring) was listed as a full participant for Tuesday's walk-through practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Though Tuesday's session wasn't conducted at full speed, Dart didn't face any limitations and looks to be ready to play Thursday against the Eagles. Head coach Brian Daboll acknowledged as much prior to the walkthrough, telling Evan Barnes of Newsday that Dart's sore left hamstring wasn't viewed as much of a concern, even on a short week. After leading the Giants to an impressive win over the Chargers in his first NFL start in Week 4, Dart took a step back in a disappointing loss to the previously winless Saints in Week 5, committing three turnovers on the afternoon. However, Dart still managed to produce a fantasy friendly line in the loss, throwing for 202 yards and two scores while adding 55 yards on seven carries.

  • Brett Rypien QB | MIN

    Brett Rypien: Cut by Cincinnati

The Bengals released Rypien on Tuesday.

The Bengals shook up their quarterback depth chart Tuesday, cutting Rypien from the active roster and Mike White from the practice squad while adding Joe Flacco in a trade with the Browns.

  • Jake Browning QB | CIN

Bengals' Jake Browning: Likely shifting to backup role

Browning is expected to move into a backup role at quarterback for Sunday's game against the Packers after the Bengals acquired Joe Flacco from the Browns on Tuesday, Jay Morrison of SI.com reports.

According to Morrison, the expectation is that Flacco will arrive in Cincinnati in time to take first-team reps at Wednesday's practice, and assuming the veteran signal-caller absorbs the new playbook quickly, he'll take over as the Bengals' new starter this weekend. As the Bengals' starter for the past three games, Browning led the team to an 0-3 record while completing 64.1 percent of his passes for just 5.6 yards per attempt, and he threw eight interceptions in total over 14-plus quarters since replacing an injured Joe Burrow (toe) midway through the team's Week 2 win over the Jaguars. Flacco -- who posted a 2:6 TD:INT and 5.1 YPA in four starts for Cleveland before being benched last week -- hasn't fared any better than Browning this season, but his longer track record of sustained success in the NFL looks like it'll be enough for him to serve as the team's preferred option under center until Burrow potentially returns later in the campaign.

  • Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Could move to second on depth chart

Sanders could be in line to serve as the direct backup to starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel beginning with Sunday's game in Pittsburgh after the Browns traded Joe Flacco to the Bengals on Tuesday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.

After starting the summer with four quarterbacks, the rebuilding Browns are down to a pair of rookies in Gabriel and Sanders on the active roster after shipping off Kenny Pickett and Flacco in trades. Sanders has been inactive as the Browns' emergency No. 3 quarterback through the first five weeks, but unless the team elects to promote Bailey Zappe from the practice squad to serve as Gabriel's top understudy, Sanders should be in line for the top backup role in Week 6. Though the Browns are expected to proceed with Gabriel as their starter for the foreseeable future, Sanders is expected to play at some point during the 2025 campaign once the coaching staff deems him ready, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

  • Joe Flacco QB | CIN

Bengals' Joe Flacco: Bound for Cincinnati

The Bengals acquired Flacco and a 2026 sixth-round pick from the Browns on Tuesday in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The trade is the first between the instate rivals since the Browns returned to the NFL in 1999, but it's a deal that makes sense for both parties. Flacco was recently demoted to the No. 2 role in Cleveland in favor of rookie Dillon Gabriel, but the Bengals could view the 40-year-old as an upgrade over the struggling Jake Browning as their interim starting quarterback while Joe Burrow (toe) remains on injured reserve. Though Flacco threw six interceptions and failed to lead the Browns to more than 17 points in any of his four starts this season prior to being benched, he'll give the Bengals a quarterback capable of getting the football to star wideouts Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins while keeping Cincinnati more competitive in the short term. Assuming he can get up to speed quickly with head coach Zac Taylor's playbook as he joins the sixth different team of his career, Flacco should be the favorite to draw the start over Browning in Sunday's game against the Packers.

  • Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Three total TDs in win

Lawrence completed 18 of 25 passes for 221 yards with one touchdown and one interception while adding 10 carries for 54 yards and two more scores in the Jaguars' 31-28 win over the Chiefs on Monday night. He also lost a fumble.

Lawrence put the Jaguars on his shoulders for the majority of the night despite a critical early second-quarter fumble at Kansas City's one-yard line, helping spearhead a comeback from an early 14-0 deficit with a three-yard touchdown pass to Parker Washington and the first of two rushing scores to knot the game back up just before the halfway point of the third quarter. Lawrence then saved his best for the most important part of the contest, leading a seven-play, 60-yard game-winning march that he capped off with an eventful one-yard touchdown run that began with him stumbling twice due to having his foot stepped on by an offensive lineman as he dropped back. Lawrence still is a work in progress in head coach Liam Coen's offense, but he completed a season-best 72.0 percent of his passes Monday night ahead of a Week 6 home matchup against a Seahawks defense that allowed the Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield to complete 29 of 33 passes for 379 yards and two TDs in Seattle's Week 5 loss.
