  • Joe Flacco QB | CIN

Browns' Joe Flacco: QB1 decision coming this week

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Sunday that he plans to name a starting quarterback this week, Albert Breer of SI.com reports.

Flacco has been on track to start Week 1 given his playing time and the distribution of starting snaps during training camp. The 40-year-old quarterback didn't suit up for Saturday's 22-13 preseason victory versus Philadelphia, but that appeared to be for rest reasons rather than any injury concerns. Meanwhile, fellow quarterbacks Kenny Pickett (hamstring) and fifth-round rookie Shedeur Sanders (oblique) were both sidelined, leaving third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel to start. Assuming Flacco is named the starter, then Pickett will probably be the No. 2 quarterback when healthy, while Sanders and Gabriel compete for the third-string role. Tyler Huntley also is on board in Cleveland, but it's unlikely he'll still be there if the team keeps Flacco, Pickett, Sanders and Gabriel all on the roster. Flacco appeared in eight games with six starts for the Colts last season, completing 162 of 248 passes (65 percent) for 1,761 yards and 12 touchdowns to seven interceptions.

  • Tyler Huntley QB | BAL

Browns' Tyler Huntley: Finishes up Saturday

Huntley completed 10 of 13 passes for 71 yards in Saturday's preseason win over the Eagles.

For the second straight preseason game, Huntley backed up one of the Browns' rookie quarterbacks. Last week against Carolina, he entered following Shedeur Sanders (oblique), and then on Saturday, Huntley played the second half after rookie Dillon Gabriel, who overcome a hamstring injury during the week to start. That's all one needs to know regarding Huntley's chances of claiming a roster spot. Injuries have shaped Cleveland's quarterback competition this summer, but conventional wisdom suggests Joe Flacco, who is not injured, will start Week 1 of the regular season with Kenny Pickett (hamstring) the main backup and Gabriel or Sanders the third QB in the room.

  • Max Brosmer QB | MIN

Vikings' Max Brosmer: Draws praise for preseason play

Brosmer was 15-of-27 passing for 156 yards with an interception in Saturday's preseason loss to New England. He was sacked four times, but head coach Kevin O'Connell praised Brosmer's decisiveness, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Despite throwing an interception, Brosmer drew praise from the coaching staff for playing well under a heavy pass rush during his time playing in the second half. Brosmer looks ahead of Brett Rypien at this point in the battle for the No. 3 QB role.

  • Riley Leonard QB | IND

Colts' Riley Leonard: Improves in second preseason game

Leonard was 7-for-12 for 64 yards without a touchdown or interception in Saturday's preseason loss to Green Bay. He also had two carries for 10 yards.

Leonard wasn't overly impressive but improved after throwing an ugly interception in his first preseason game. Leonard still appears ahead of Jason Bean for the No. 3 QB role, as Bean played after Leonard in the fourth quarter.

  • Joe Milton III QB | DAL

Cowboys' Joe Milton: Inconsistent showing in loss

Milton completed nine of 18 passes for 122 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 31-13 preseason loss to the Ravens. He added three rushes for six yards.

Milton started the game and played well into the fourth quarter as he tried to secure the backup job behind Dak Prescott. Matters didn't unfold very smoothly, as he took a sack in the end zone for a safety on Dallas' first possession, failed to lead a scoring drive in the first half and also threw an interception on an ill-advised attempt into double coverage. Milton did display his excellent arm strength with a 49-yard pass to Jonathan Mingo, but the performance was far too mistake-prone overall.

  • Cooper Rush QB | BAL

Ravens' Cooper Rush: Turnover problems continue

Rush completed 20 of 30 passes for 198 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Saturday's 31-13 preseason win over the Cowboys.

Rush had emerged as a servicable backup during his time with the Cowboys, but this preseason has not gone his way through two contests. He threw an interception on his first pass attempt in his first exhibition game and then threw a pick-six late in the first quarter against his former team Saturday. Rush also managed to lead three scoring drives, including one he capped off with a one-yard touchdown throw, and he should still be in line to serve as Lamar Jackson's backup come Week 1 of the regular season.

  • Rams' Matthew Stafford: No update yet on Saturday's workout

The Rams didn't provide an update regarding Stafford's (back) scheduled workout Saturday, with assistant head coach Aubrey Pleasant deferring to coach Sean McVay's upcoming media session Monday to discuss the matter, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.

Stafford has yet to practice during training camp due to what initially was termed back soreness and more recently a disc issue in his back. After Stafford completed a workout without limitations last Saturday, McVay spoke in optimistic terms about the quarterback and an expectation that he'd get back on the field Monday, but that didn't come to pass. Stafford was scheduled for a similar workout this Saturday, but neither Pleasant nor a team spokesperson provided any insight into the situation, including whether it took place at all or if he was in attendance at SoFi Stadium for Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers. With three weeks to go until the Rams' season opener against the Texans on Sunday, Sept. 7, it remains unclear if Stafford will be available to direct the offense Week 1. In such a scenario, Jimmy Garoppolo would earn starts under center for as long as Stafford isn't available.

  • Buccaneers' Teddy Bridgewater: Leads two scoring drives

Bridgewater completed six of 11 passes for 85 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 17-14 preseason win over the Steelers.

Bridgewater drew the start with Baker Mayfield resting and led three drives, with the latter two resulting in scores. He connected with Bucky Irving and Emeka Egbuka in the end zone on throws of 15 and five yards, respectively. Bridgeater also delivered accurate passes for gains of 27 and 18 yards to Sterling Shepard and Jalen McMillan in what was a successful preseason debut. Overall, Bridgewater outplayed incumbent backup Kyle Trask, setting up an interesting battle for Week 1.

  • Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Sharp in preseason loss

Brissett completed six of eight passes for 57 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Cardinals' 27-7 preseason loss to the Broncos on Saturday night. He also rushed once for two yards.

Brissett and the Cardinals' offense started slowly with a five-play drive that culminated in a punt, but the second possession was a different story. The veteran signal-caller helmed an 11-play, 67-yard march he capped off with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Simi Fehoko and in which he recorded five completions overall. Brissett had 12- and 17-yard connections with Andre Baccellia and Xavier Weaver during the drive, and he was done for the night following the scoring toss. Brissett is firmly entrenched as Kyler Murray's primary backup as the regular season approaches.

  • Rams' Stetson Bennett: Sharp in second preseason contest

Bennett completed 28 of 40 passes for 324 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 23-22 preseason win over the Chargers.

Bennett has now played the entirety of both of the Rams' preseason contests and has performed well in both. Overall, he's completed 44 of 64 passes for 512 yards while throwing five touchdowns as compared to two interceptions. Bennett looks to be locked into the third spot on the depth chart.
