  • Tarik Cohen RB | NYJ

Tarik Cohen: Goes to practice squad injured list

Carolina placed Cohen (hamstring) on its practice squad injured list Monday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

The transaction means Cohen won't be eligible to be promoted to the active roster for at least the next four games. If he is eventually going to log his first regular-season action since Week 3 of the 2020 campaign, the earliest he'll have a chance to do so will be in Week 14 against the Saints.

  • Steelers' Anthony McFarland: Gets activated from IR

Pittsburgh activated McFarland (knee) from its injured reserve list Monday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.

McFarland is finally ready to return to action after he missed seven games recovering from a knee injury he sustained in Week 1 versus San Francisco. As long as Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren remain healthy though, McFarland's path to carries is relatively narrow.

  • Lions' David Montgomery: Could return after bye

Montgomery (ribs) is expected to return to the lineup for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Montgomery will have had a full four weeks to recover from his rib cartilage injury before the matchup in Los Angeles, and Detroit seemingly signaled their confidence in his availability by parting ways with No. 4 running back Devine Ozigbo last Thursday. While it's not clear how the Lions will divvy up the rushing workload after rookie Jahmyr Gibbs excelled in Montgomery's absence, the veteran seems likely to reclaim a significant amount of touches after averaging 22 carries in his first four games of the season.

  • Seahawks' Zach Charbonnet: Leads backfield in snaps again

Charbonnet rushed four times for eight yards and caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 37-3 loss to the Ravens.

Charbonnet out-snapped Kenneth Walker for the second straight week, although Walker led the backfield in touches, turning nine carries into 16 yards and catching a pass for a one-yard gain. Walker may have been battling an injury last week that limited his workload, but he wasn't on the injury report for Week 9. Instead, it appears Charbonnet was called on more because he's the better pass catcher and this game turned against Seattle early. This backfield could flip in the rookie's favor at any moment, but it's still going to be tough to trust him for fantasy purposes until he actually begins to handle more touches than Walker.

  • Emanuel Wilson RB | SEA

Packers' Emanuel Wilson: Breaks long run late in win

Wilson had four carries for 43 yards in Sunday's 20-3 victory over the Rams.

A 31-yard burst late in the contest gave Wilson's YPC mark a healthy boost, but he did not see a carry until the game's final drive and was easily outpaced in the snap count department by both Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. It's not out of the question that Wilson steals some snaps from Dillon over the remainder of the season, but heading into Week 10 he remains the clear third option on the depth chart.

  • AJ Dillon RB | CAR

Packers' AJ Dillon: Snap count takes hit

Dillon had nine carries for 40 yards and one reception for three yards in Sunday's 20-3 victory over the Rams.

Dillon played more snaps than any other Packers running back in each of the team's first seven games, but his snap count percentage declined for the fourth time in as many games in Week 9, and he wound up playing fewer than 40 percent of the snaps for the first time all season. With fellow running back Aaron Jones having gotten gradually healthier, recording a season-high 24 touches Sunday, Dillon seems to have returned to a true backup role.

  • Mike Boone RB | MIA

Texans' Mike Boone: Fills out backfield

Boone had one carry for three yards and played 19 snaps on offense in Sunday's 39-37 win over the Buccaneers in Week 9.

Boone's playing time was his most since Week 1, but significant touches did not come his way. With Dameon Pierce (ankle) unavailable, Boone moved up the depth chart as the primary backup to Devin Singletary, but Houston's running game didn't gain much traction (53 yards) and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik shifted to a pass-heavy attack. Boone, who had been the primary kick returner in previous weeks, was removed from that role as Tank Dell handled those duties.

  • Texans' Dare Ogunbowale: Serves as emergency kicker

Ogunbowale successfully converted a 29-yard field-goal attempt in Sunday's 39-37 win over Tampa Bay in Week 9.

The running back was pressed into duty as a kicker when Ka'imi Fairbairn was unable to play in the second half due to a hamstring injury. Ogunbowale handled kickoffs, and his field goal gave Houston a 33-30 lead, but he was not given an opportunity to kick extra points as Houston went for two-point conversions on all four of its second-half touchdowns. If Fairbairn's injury lingers, the Texans are likely to add a traditional placekicker over using Ogunbowale in the role again.

  • Browns' Pierre Strong: Marginalized in win

Strong had three carries for nine yards and caught his lone target for minus-7 yards in Sunday's 27-0 win over the Cardinals.

A week after Strong logged a season-high 24 snaps, he had just five plays on offense. Backfield injuries created a path to a greater role for the former Patriot, but Jerome Ford was able to quickly overcome an ankle injury, which relegated Strong to a minor role Sunday. Ford and Kareem Hunt remain the primary fill-ins for the injured Nick Chubb (knee). In his brief window of opportunity, however, Strong showed quickness and potential as a third-down back.

  • Matt Breida RB | SF

Giants' Matt Breida: Gets just three touches in loss

Breida rushed twice for five yards and caught one of two targets for six yards in Sunday's Week 9 loss to the Raiders.

The Giants fell behind 24-0 by halftime and didn't do much better in the second half, but they continued to lean heavily on workhorse running back Saquon Barkley -- who finished with 19 total touches for 113 yards -- even as the game got out of hand. That once again kept Breida to a minimal role that netted very little production. The veteran tailback hasn't gained more than 17 total yards in any contest since Week 5, and he doesn't figure to see significantly more opportunities while Barkley remains healthy.
