The Milwaukee Brewers are ridiculous. Again.
Remember, the Brewers had the best record in the regular season last year. They lost in the NLCS because the Dodgers went into Terminator Mode for the series, but I think far too many people are assuming that means there would be a repeat this time around, should the two square off again, and I'm not so sure. I think the Brewers can take 'em, if it comes to that.
That doesn't much matter right now, though, as we still have more than a month left in the regular season, and this regular season belongs to the Milwaukee Brewers.
They didn't start out so hot. They were 13-13 after a loss on April 25. Since then? The Brewers have gone 68-37, a .648 clip (that's a full-season pace of 105 wins). They took three of four games in Dodger Stadium last weekend. They won 22-0 on Tuesday. They won a series over the first-place Braves. On the season, they've gone 4-2 against the Cubs so far, reinforcing their ownership of the NL Central. They swept the Yankees. They've taken two of three from the Rays.
We could keep going because the Brewers are 43-22 against teams .500 or better. Contained in that 13-13 start were a six-game losing streak and then a four-game losing streak. Since then, the Brewers have only lost more than two straight games three times, and all of those losing streaks were halted at three.
They have one of the best defenses in baseball (sitting sixth in defensive efficiency, for example). Despite sitting last in home runs, they are in the top five in batting average and top 10 in OPS, checking in as one of the most prolific run-scoring teams in baseball. They sit third in stolen bases and are one of the best baserunning teams in the league. They are second in the majors in ERA, too.
Simply, the Brewers are just awesome at pretty much everything. I do believe they have a good chance to win their first-ever World Series, too. The rotation looks a lot different this season with Jacob Misiorowski at the top, followed by the likes of Logan Henderson, Kyle Harrison and Dustin May.
Doubt the best team in baseball at your peril. They are every bit good enough to win it all.
