Walkoff mania
There were a pair of walk-off victories on Saturday night worth reliving.
Here's Elvis Andrus helping the Rangers edge the Royals with a single off Peter Moylan:
And here's Maikel Franco with a two-run single to knock off the Braves. The Phillies had blown a lead in the ninth and then spotted the Braves the lead in the 10th.
Yankees rally with two big innings
Entering the sixth inning of Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the New York Yankees were trailing 3-0. Pittsburgh starter Jameson Taillon looked like he was in control, and the Pirates stood a good chance of earning the win. In fact, FanGraphs had the Pirates' win expectancy at 87.5 percent.
Things changed quickly after that, so much so that the Yankees ended up winning with ease, 11-5.
Contributions came from across the board, but the big knocked were three-run homers, both coming during a five-run inning that first saw the Yankees take the lead once, then break a tie game en route to an easy win. And for the cherry on top, Aaron Judge delivered a massive ninth-inning solo shot to seal the deal. You can check out all the action from the exciting comeback win here.
Mets drop another close one
These are not good times for the Mets, who on Saturday dropped their seventh game in eight tries by a 3-1 score against the Nationals. Any kind of stretch like that is difficult to stomach, but making matters worse is that the Mets have lost by one or two runs in each of those games.
If #Mets don’t rally here in ninth, the 8-10 start will be their worst since 2011, when they began 5-13.

Saturday's defeat saw Gio Gonzalez carry a no-hitter into the sixth. The Mets would break that up -- on a Juan Lagares single -- and later end the shutout attempt. Alas, New York's lineup couldn't muster enough offense in support of Jacob deGrom, who struck out 10 batters over 5 2/3 innings. deGrom also issued six walks, so it wasn't his day, either.
Cubs continue home run barrage in Cincinnati
Friday night, the Cubs rallied to beat the Reds at Great American Ball Park thanks to Anthony Rizzo's game-tying three-run home run in the ninth inning. They went on to win the game in 11 innings.
Then, on Saturday, Rizzo opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the first inning against southpaw Cody Reed. The game started walk, walk, home run for Reed. Ouch.

Willson Contreras added a grand slam in the second inning and Jason Heyward swatted a three-run shot in the sixth inning, and the Cubs would need all that offense, picking up a 12-8 win when all was said and done.
With those home runs, the Cubs have now hit 32 home runs in their last 12 games in Cincinnati dating back to last season. The last time the Cubs played in Great American Ball Park and didn't hit a home run was September 29, 2015. That was 14 games ago.
Benches clear in Minnesota
In the fifth inning of Saturday's game at Target Field, benches cleared between the Twins and Tigers after Matt Boyd threw a pitch behind Miguel Sano. Sano took exception, then shoved catcher James McCann, who got between him and Boyd.

Twins righty Justin Haley hit JaCoby Jones in the face with a pitch earlier in the game, though it was clearly unintentional. It would be sort of silly for Boyd to retaliate by throwing at Sano when Haley clearly didn't hit Jones on purpose.
Either way, both benches and bullpens cleared, though there were no punches thrown or anything like that. It was a typical baseball brawl. Both Boyd and Sano were ejected, however.
Mahle throws perfect game
Reds farmhand Tyler Mahle had a great Saturday night -- throwing a perfect game against the Mobile BayBears. Mahle struck out eight batters, continuing an excellent start to the season.
