  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Resting up Saturday

Vargas isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

Vargas will sit down for the beginning of Saturday's game after going 1-for-5 with three strikeouts in the series opener. His absence will open up first base for Tim Tawa.

  • Jacob Gonzalez SS | PIT

Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Added to active roster

The Pirates activated Gonzalez to the major-league roster Saturday.

Gonzalez had been at Triple-A when the White Sox traded him to Pittsburgh on Friday, but he'll officially return to the majors to begin his tenure with the Pirates. He won't be in the lineup for the final game of Saturday's doubleheader, though Injuries to Spencer Horwitz (hamstring) and Konnor Griffin (finger) could open up opportunities for Gonzalez to get starting reps with Pittsburgh.

  • Giants' Rafael Devers: Powers offense in loss

Devers went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two additional RBI in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Rockies.

Devers opened the scoring with a second-inning homer and added an RBI single in the seventh and a sacrifice fly in the ninth. He has gone 12-for-32 (.375) with four homers and eight RBI over nine contests in July. For the season, the infielder is batting .253 with an .808 OPS, 19 homers, 52 RBI, 48 runs scored, 25 doubles and one triple over 94 games.

Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Traded to Pirates

The White Sox traded Gonzalez and Brandon Eisert to the Pirates on Friday in exchange for minor-league reliever Jaden Woods and the 34th pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

After sending him down to Triple-A earlier in the day, the White Sox will now send Gonzalez out to Pittsburgh to help bolster the Pirates' infield depth. The 24-year-old has slashed .244/.323/.360 across 97 plate appearances in the majors since making his MLB debut May 31, but he boasts a 1.040 OPS at the Triple-A level. With Konnor Griffin (finger) expected to miss multiple months and Spencer Horwitz (hamstring) also on the IL, Gonzalez could get an opportunity to contribute right away for the big club.

  • Mark Vientos 1B | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Officially moved to injured list

The Mets placed Vientos on the 10-day injured list Friday with a fractured right hand.

Vientos suffered the injury during Thursday's game against the Royals when he was hit by a Michael Wacha pitch. He is expected to be sidelined 6-to-8 weeks, per Chelsea Janes of SNY.tv, so Vientos will likely be unavailable for the Mets until at least late August.

  • Giants' Rafael Devers: Multi-hit effort in win

Devers went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 8-2 win over the Rockies.

Devers drew a walk in the first inning, hit an RBI single in the fifth and added an RBI double in the eighth before coming around to score. The veteran infielder has reached base in 13 consecutive contests, batting .326 with 11 runs scored, 11 RBI and six home runs in 54 plate appearances during that stretch. • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Clubs homer No. 25

Olson went 1-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run and a second run scored in Thursday's win over the Pirates.

The All-Star first baseman took Mitch Keller deep in the first inning, and Pittsburgh did its best to pitch around him the rest of the night. Olson is up to 25 homers on the season, tied for third in the National League, and five of them have come in the last seven games -- a stretch in which he's batting .276 (8-for-29) with two doubles, six RBI and nine runs.

  • Jake Bauers 1B | MIL

Brewers' Jake Bauers: Hammers homer Thursday

Bauers went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, an additional run and a walk in Thursday's 8-4 victory over the Cardinals.

Bauers had the biggest hit of the night for Milwaukee, clubbing a three-run blast in the third inning to extend the lead to 6-0. The long ball was his 17th of the campaign, which is already a career-high mark after he went deep 12 times in three separate previous seasons. Bauers has been a pleasant first-half surprise for the Brewers and fantasy managers alike, as his .873 OPS ranks 18th in the league and his 57 RBI are tied for 23rd.

  • Pavin Smith 1B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Pavin Smith: DFA'd by Arizona

Smith was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Thursday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

After going 0-for-4 with a strikeout Wednesday in San Diego, Smith has been cut loose from Arizona's 26-man and 40-man rosters. The 30-year-old has slashed just .141/.236/.192 with one homer and six RBI in 89 appearances this year. Smith had slowly been losing time at first base to Ildemaro Vargas and Tim Tawa. The Diamondbacks recalled Ryan Waldschmidt from Triple-A Reno to replace Smith on the active roster.
