Brewers' Jake Bauers: Hopeful to return Friday

Manager Pat Murphy said that Bauers (abdomen) was available to come off the bench in an emergency Thursday versus the Pirates, and the team is hopeful that he'll play Friday against the Twins, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Bauers missed the final three games of Milwaukee's four-game set against Pittsburgh after suffering an abdominal injury Monday, but it appears his time on the sidelines is nearing its end. The 30-year-old has continued to be one of the Brewers' most productive bats during the second half, slashing .286/.386/.469 with two homers, five RBI, 12 runs scored and two steals in 16 games since the break.

  • Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Held out of Boston lineup

Contreras (illness) is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the White Sox.

Contreras was forced to depart Wednesday's game due to illness and will be given some additional rest Thursday. Nick Sogard will fill in at first base and is bat leadoff for the Red Sox in the series finale.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Mariners' Josh Naylor: Rare day off Thursday

Naylor is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.

It's the first day off since June 17 for Naylor, who is in a 42-game homerless drought. Weston Wilson will fill in at first base and bat sixth for the Mariners.

  • Jake Bauers 1B | MIL

Brewers' Jake Bauers: Remains out of lineup

Bauers (abdomen) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Pirates.

It will be the third straight day out of the lineup for Bauers, who is dealing with abdominal soreness. He remains day-to-day for the time being, and it's unclear whether Bauers will be available off the bench Thursday. Andrew Vaughn will be at first base and Luis Lara will play right field for the Brewers on Thursday.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Held out of lineup again Thursday

Guerrero (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Cubs.

Guerrero will miss a second straight start as he battles some hamstring tightness and general fatigue. He's considered day-to-day and doesn't appear to be a candidate at this point for the injured list. Kazuma Okamoto will again fill in at first base, Ernie Clement will shift to third base and Luis Urias will occupy second base for the Blue Jays.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Undergoes wrist surgery

Casas (abdomen/knee) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left wrist Thursday.

The Red Sox did not offer a timeline for Casas' recovery, but the procedure undoubtedly will end his season. It's another lost year for Casas, who played only 29 games in 2025 and zero in 2026 due to a ruptured patellar tendon, a left intercostal strain and now a wrist problem. Casas will be eligible for salary arbitration for a second time this offseason.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CLE

Guardians' Nathaniel Lowe: Delivers in first start

Lowe started at first base and went 2-for-6 with a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Lowe made his starting debut for the Guardians and should remain a starter whenever the club faces a right-hander. He was a big part of Cleveland overcoming an early 3-0 deficit, lacing a game-tying, two-run single the fifth inning. He and Rhys Hoskins will work the platoon at first base, as the team demoted Kyle Manzardo on Monday after acquiring Lowe from the Reds.

  • Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Early exit Wednesday

Contreras was removed from Wednesday's game against the White Sox due to an illness, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Contreras had gone 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI before the illness forced him out of the game in the fifth inning. Nick Sogard will fill in as Boston's first baseman and could continue to do so if Contreras needs to miss additional time.

  • Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Sitting Wednesday

Horwitz is not in the Pirates' starting lineup against the Brewers on Wednesday.

Horwitz has gone 1-for-12 with a double and three RBI in his three games since being reinstated from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He'll be on the bench for Wednesday's contest while Rafael Flores starts at first base and bats eighth.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: X-rays negative on hand

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters following Wednesday's 7-6 loss to the Cubs that X-rays on Freddie Freeman's hand came back negative, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Freeman was removed from the fifth inning of Wednesday's contest after being hit on the hand, but the good news is that he appears to have avoided a serious injury. With Thursday being a scheduled off day for the Dodgers, Freeman is expected to be in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Diamondbacks.
