  • Giants' Trenton Brooks: On bench versus lefty

Brooks is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

The lefty-hitting Brooks is on the bench for the second game in a row while the Giants have faced southpaws Blake Walston and Jordan Montgomery in those contests. Wilmer Flores will get another start at first base Wednesday, but Brooks still looks to be in the strong side of a platoon at the position while LaMonte Wade (hamstring) is on the shelf.

  • Jake Bauers RF | MIL

Brewers' Jake Bauers: Sitting against righty Wednesday

Bauers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Bauers will take a seat for the second day in a row, this time against a right-handed pitcher (Aaron Nola) after his absence from the lineup for Tuesday's 2-1 loss came while southpaw Cristopher Sanchez started for Philadelphia. Though he's been playing more often than not against right-handed pitching of late, Bauers is slashing just .176/.276/.314 over his last 15 games and could begin to lose out on starts more frequently if he fails to right the ship.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Getting breather Wednesday

Walker is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Walker is resting for just the second time of the season, with his first day off coming all the way back on April 21. Pavin Smith will start at first base for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Guardians' Josh Naylor: Launches homer Tuesday

Naylor went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and a second run scored in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Royals.

Naylor was part of the Guardians' comeback push -- his fourth-inning homer cut the deficit to 5-3. After being one of the team's hottest hitters in April, the first baseman has hit .178 with a .719 OPS since the start of May. Naylor's power is still coming through with 16 homers, a .500 slugging percentage and a .271 ISO. He hasn't had a pronounced issue with strikeouts either, fanning at just a 16.2 percent rate while walking at a career-best 10.3 percent clip. Naylor's .308 batting average last year was likely unsustainable, but he's a better overall hitter than he's been over the last month.

  • Kris Bryant RF | COL

Rockies' Kris Bryant: Remains on bench Wednesday

Bryant (back) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Bryant will hit the bench for a third game in a row while he continues to manage a sore back. Jacob Stallings will pick up a start behind the dish in the series finale versus Cincinnati while top backstop Elias Diaz fills Bryant's usual spot at designated hitter.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Red Sox's Garrett Cooper: Heads to bench in O'Neill's return

Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Cooper served as Boston's designated hitter in both of the past two games and went 0-for-8 with four strikeouts. He'll cede DH duties to Rob Refsnyder on Wednesday, and with Tyler O'Neill (knee) returning from the 10-day injured list one day after Wilyer Abreu (ankle) was deactivated, Boston will likely have room in the lineup against right-handed pitching for only one of Refsnyder and Cooper moving forward. Refsnyder has performed far better than Cooper so far this season, so it wouldn't be surprising if Boston opted to make the former a greater priority in the lineup.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Slugs 14th homer

Alonso went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Nationals.

The first baseman took Washington closer Kyle Finnegan deep to left field in the ninth inning to give the Mets an insurance run. Alonso's racked up seven hits, including three doubles and two homers, over the last six games, and since May 7 he's slashing .279/.330/.548 in 26 contests with six of his 14 long balls and 15 of his 31 RBI on the season.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Marlins' Josh Bell: Extends hit streak vs. Rays

Bell went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 9-5 loss to Tampa Bay.

Bell extended Miami's lead to 3-0 in the first inning with a two-run triple, his first three-bagger since 2022, before leading off the eighth with a double. With Tuesday's multi-hit performance, Bell's now hit safely in seven straight games, going 12-for-29 (.414.) with a 1.075 OPS in that span. After a brutal start to the year, the 31-year-old first baseman has boosted his slash line to .247/.318/.385 with six homers, 29 RBI and 26 runs scored across 61 games.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: Laces timely double Tuesday

France went 1-for-3 with a two-run double, a walk and a run in a win over the Athletics on Tuesday.

The veteran infielder squared up for a third-inning two-bagger that brought home J.P. Crawford and Josh Rojas with the first two runs of the night, France's eighth and ninth RBI over the last nine games. France has shown a bit more pop in his bat than usual during that span, posting four extra-base hits overall (two doubles, two home runs) on his way to a .333 average and 1.044 OPS across 36 plate appearances. The sample has also featured a welcome increase and drop in walk and strikeout rates, respectively, as he's drawn free passes at a 13.9 percent clip and struck out in a modest 16.7 percent of his plate appearances.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Still not swinging bat

Casas (ribs) still experiences pain when rotating and has not yet begun swinging a bat, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Casas has been taking grounders and hitting the weight room, but that he's not yet swinging a bat suggests he may not return June 21, the earliest he can be activated off the 60-day injured list. "Whenever he feels better about it and he doesn't feel pain, then [swinging] is the next step," manager Alex Cora said. "It's not about treatment or whatever. It just kind of had to heal on its own." While Casas has been sidelined, the Red Sox are getting by with Dominic Smith and Garrett Cooper at first base.
