  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Runs wild in win

Hoerner went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-0 win over the Royals. He also stole two bases.

Hoerner was once again an effective leadoff hitter against a lefty, and he also continued to be aggressive on the bases. The infielder has three steals in his last three games and 19 for the season in 22 attempts. Hoerner seems to be thriving atop Chicago's lineup when given the opportunity, and his speed remains his greatest fantasy asset.

  • Thomas Saggese SS | STL

    Cardinals' Thomas Saggese: Scratched Tuesday

Saggese was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus Colorado, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Saggese's removal from the starting nine doesn't seem to be injury-related. Alec Burleson (foot) was cleared to play shortly before first pitch, so he'll enter the lineup in left field and move Brendan Donovan to second base, which leaves no room for Saggese. The 23-year-old doubled during his lone at-bat since being recalled from Triple-A on Saturday but will likely continue to have a hard time getting into the lineup.

  • Jack Winkler 2B | MIA

Marlins' Jack Winkler: Back in majors

The Marlins recalled Winkler from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old has spent the past three weeks in the minors but will rejoin the Marlins on Tuesday with Derek Hill (finger) landing on the injured list. Winkler has appeared in nine MLB games this season and has gone 1-for-11 with a stolen base, a run and four strikeouts.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Edman isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.

Edman has gone 3-for-13 with a homer and two runs scored in four games since the All-Star break. He'll get a breather Tuesday while Hyeseong Kim starts at second base and Miguel Rojas covers third.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Thriving in leadoff spot

Edwards went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's loss to the Padres.

The 25-year-old switch hitter didn't get any help from his teammates to bring him home, but Edwards had another productive performance from the top of the Marlins' order. He swiped his 17th bag of the season while continuing a hot streak that has seen him hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games. He's slashing .362/.375/.617 during that stretch with nine extra-base hits (seven doubles, a triple and his second career homer) and nine runs scored.

  • Adael Amador SS | COL

Rockies' Adael Amador: Two hits in return to majors

Amador went 2-for-3 with a run scored Monday against the Cardinals.

The Rockies are dealing with a number of injuries to their middle infield, so Amador was recalled Sunday. He was in the starting lineup one day later at second base while hitting ninth, and he delivered a pair of singles. Amador struggled during his first stint in the majors this season, but he could continue to get some looks at second base while Ryan Ritter (finger) and Thairo Estrada (thumb) are sidelined.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Returns to lineup

Marte served as the designated hitter, batted leadoff and went 1-for-4 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Monday's 6-3 loss to Houston.

Marte helped give Arizona an early lead when he doubled to leadoff the bottom of the first inning and scored. Monday was his return to the starting lineup and first game coming out of the All-Star break after missing three games related to a personal issue. Marte had a groin injury earlier this month, which may factor into him not yet playing the field.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Nabbing fifth straight start

Alexander will start at second base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Astros.

Though Ketel Marte will make his first start of the second half following a brief stint on the restricted list coming out of the All-Star break, he'll be used at designated hitter rather than at his usual spot at the keystone. As a result, Alexander will pick up his fifth consecutive start, after he had gone 5-for-14 with two doubles, four runs and three RBI. Until the Diamondbacks get Pavin Smith (oblique) back from the injured list, the team could have a regular spot in the lineup available for either Adrian Del Castillo or Alexander, though the latter's standing as a right-handed hitter may work against him from a playing-time standpoint.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Sitting versus righty

Garcia is absent from the lineup for Monday's game versus the Reds.

The Reds are sending righty Brady Singer to the bump, but the left-handed-hitting Garcia will nonetheless begin the contest on the bench. Amed Rosario is covering second base and hitting seventh for the Nationals.

  • Kyle Farmer 2B | COL

Rockies' Kyle Farmer: Gets chance at second base

Farmer went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Sunday against the Twins.

The Rockies' middle infield has been in flux with the return of Ezequiel Tovar, while both Ryan Ritter (finger) and Thairo Estrada (thumb) are on the injured list. Tovar was on the bench Sunday, allowing Farmer and Orlando Arcia the chance to be in the lineup -- with the former at second base. Moving forward, Arcia will presumably get the first chance at the role, though he and Farmer have split time evenly since Estrada has been sidelined.
