  • Luis Rengifo 3B | LAA

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Doubles, swipes bag in return

Rengifo went 1-for-4 with a double, a steal, a run scored and a walk in Friday's win over Texas.

Rengifo hit second in his first game since May 6 after a brief stint on the injured list. He ripped a double in the first inning before drawing a walk, stealing second base and scoring a run in the third. The utility player was on a 19-for-46 (.413) tear over his last 15 games before landing on the IL. Rengifo is slashing .326/.379/.463 with nine extra-base hits and 10 steals through 29 games.

  • David Fletcher 2B | ATL

Braves' David Fletcher: To be investigated by MLB

Major League Baseball intends to open an investigation into a reported gambling situation involving Fletcher and bookmaker Mathew Bowyer, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Per Tisha Thompson of ESPN, Fletcher placed bets on multiple sports but did not bet on baseball. MLB allows players to bet on other sports, but doing so through illegal bookmakers such as Bowyer -- the same bookmaker used by Shohei Ohtani's former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara -- is prohibited and punishable at the discretion of the commissioner.

  • Miguel Vargas 2B | CHW

    Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Officially promoted

The Dodgers recalled Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

Vargas has served as Oklahoma City's left fielder all season, slashing .302/.442/.590 with eight homers and 39 RBI across 181 plate appearances. The 24-year-old hasn't found the same success in the majors with a .640 OPS, but he could still draw starts in the outfield on days the Dodgers are matched up against a left-handed starter.

  • Jared Triolo 3B | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Homer, three RBI in win

Triolo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Cubs.

Triolo opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run shot off Kyle Hendricks before driving in a third run with a base hit in the fourth. It's the first multi-hit game since May 3 for Triolo -- he'd gone just 2-for-30 in his prior 10 contests. The 26-year-old infielder is slashing .201/.291/.257 with two homers, 15 RBI, eight runs scored and three steals through 41 games this season. With Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) set to resume baseball activities early next week, Triolo could soon be headed back to a bench role.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Continuing rehab stint Saturday

Lowe (oblique) will resume his rehab assignment Saturday at Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lowe initially landed on the injured list April 12 with a strained right oblique, and he played four rehab games in the minors before a setback temporarily halted his progress Sunday. Now that he's been cleared to get back on the field, the plan is for Lowe to play two more games with Durham before returning to Tampa Bay on Monday ahead of the team's upcoming series against Boston.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Poised for rehab assignment

Edwards (foot) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Edwards' recovery from a bacterial infection in his left foot has gone very slowly, but he's finally ready to play in some games. It will be his first game action since early March, so he will need time in the minors to knock the rust off before the Marlins consider adding him to the big-league roster.

  • Miguel Vargas 2B | CHW

Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Slated for promotion

The Dodgers are expected to recall Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City this weekend, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The Dodgers are also set to activate Jason Heyward (back) from the injured list. There's no word yet on what the corresponding moves will be, but a demotion for James Outman is one scenario. Vargas has been used exclusively in left field with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, slashing .295/.437/.583 with eight home runs and eight stolen bases. He could see ample playing time in left field for the Dodgers.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Scratched due to heel injury

Garcia was scratched from Friday's lineup in Philadelphia due to a right heel injury, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Garcia also didn't start Wednesday's game versus the White Sox after his heel got caught by a cleat earlier in the series. The infielder expects to return Saturday. Ildemaro Vargas will man the keystone in Garcia's place.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | NYM

    Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Misses lineup

Polanco (hamstring) isn't in the Mariners' lineup Friday at Baltimore.

Polanco will miss a third straight game with right hamstring soreness. Once again, Josh Rojas will slide to second base while Luis Urias starts at third.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Still hoping to avoid injured list

Hoerner (hamstring) remains day-to-day and the Cubs are still hoping he can avoid the injured list, Ryan Herrera of MLB.com reports.

Hoerner is missing a fourth straight start Friday after still feeling something in his left hamstring Thursday, per manager Craig Counsell. While the skipper expressed hope that an IL won't be needed, he conceded that a move would be on the table if the issue continues to linger. With Dansby Swanson (knee) also out, the Cubs have been going with Miles Mastrobuoni and Nick Madrigal as their middle infield duo.
