  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

    Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Resting Saturday

Torres is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Torres will be held out of the lineup for the first time since April 20 against Tampa Bay, though he did pinch hit in that contest. Torres is 5-for-30 with five walks and a solo home run in May, and he is coming off an 0-for-4 showing with one strikeout in Friday's win. Oswaldo Cabrera will shift to second base Saturday while Jon Berti gets the start at third.

  • Vaughn Grissom SS | LAA

Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Starting at DH on Saturday

Grissom will be the designated hitter and bat fifth in Saturday's game against the Nationals, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

With Grissom shifting to DH on Saturday, David Hamilton will start at second base. Since making his Red Sox debut May 3, Grissom is 3-for-21 with one double and two RBI.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Swats eighth homer

Marte went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Orioles.

He took Cole Irvin deep in the third inning, giving Marte his eighth homer of the season and third in the last five games. The 30-year-old second baseman also extended his hitting streak to 11 games with the solo shot, but he's batting just .261 (12-for-46) during that stretch as he's managed only one multi-hit performance.

  • Nick Gonzales 2B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Drives in two

Gonzales went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's loss to the Cubs.

Gonzales was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday and immediately entered the starting lineup, hitting fifth while starting at second base. He delivered a two-RBI single in the first inning but also struck out twice. Gonzales should have a chance to seize regular playing time as the Pirates continue to try to get their offense on track.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Early exit from rehab outing

Lowe (oblique) was pulled from Friday's rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham for precautionary reasons, MLB.com reports.

Lowe has been on a rehab assignment since Tuesday and gone 2-for-5 with a home run across three games. It's unclear why he was pulled or if this will push back his return timeline.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | KC

Royals' Adam Frazier: Clubs go-ahead homer

Frazier went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 2-1 win over the Angels.

Frazier put the Royals ahead with his ninth-inning blast. The second baseman has gone 3-for-7 over his last two games after enduring an 0-for-15 skid over his previous six contests. Frazier's playing time has become irregular since he lost the starting job at the keystone to Michael Massey, but he's seen some time in the corner outfield spots and at designated hitter. Frazier has a .188/.309/.250 slash line with one homer, eight RBI, eight runs scored, a stolen base and two doubles through 94 plate appearances this season, so his lack of an everyday role shouldn't come as a surprise.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Homers off bench Friday

Gorman hit a solo home run in his lone at-bat during Friday's 11-2 loss to the Brewers.

Gorman entered the game as a defensive replacement after the Brewers turned it into a rout, and his ninth-inning blast ended the 24-year-old's 0-for-14 skid to begin the month of May. The second baseman is slashing a meager .179/.262/.350 with five homers, 13 RBI, nine runs scored, five doubles and no stolen bases over 130 plate appearances. Gorman began the year in a near-everyday role at the keystone, but he's now sat out against the last three southpaws the Cardinals have faced, with Jose Fermin picking up the playing time. Gorman had reverse splits last season and that has carried over into 2024, but he's simply not hitting well enough overall to justify a full-time role.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | COL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Homers in Friday's loss

Estrada went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Reds.

Estrada is enjoying a strong start to May, hitting safely in eight of his 10 games this month. He's gone 12-for-40 (.300) in that span, adding two homers and eight RBI. The second baseman has a .248/.276/.434 slash line with six homers, 21 RBI, 17 runs scored and one stolen base through 39 contests overall. Estrada is on pace for a career year in homers, but his overall performance is down and the Giants' weak offense hasn't helped him rack up counting stats.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | NYM

    Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Breather Friday

Polanco is not in the starting lineup for Friday's contest with the Athletics, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Polanco will get a breather after going 2-for-18 with one run scored and seven strikeouts over Seattle's four-game series in Minnesota. Josh Rojas will slide over to second base while Luis Urias enters the lineup at third base and bats ninth against Oakland.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Sitting versus left-hander

Gorman is not in the starting lineup for Friday's contest with the Brewers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Gorman will take a seat as left-hander Robert Gasser makes his major-league debut on the mound for Milwaukee. Jose Fermin will draw the start at second base in his place and bat leadoff against the Brewers.
