  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Gets Saturday off

Gimenez isn't in Cleveland's lineup for Saturday's game against the A's.

Gimenez will step out of the lineup Saturday after going 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored during Friday's series opener. While he rests, Gabriel Arias will fill in at the keystone and bat seventh.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Drives in two in season debut

Massey went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Orioles.

Massey's two-run single stretched the Royals' lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning, and he came around to score on a Hunter Renfroe double. It's a positive start for Massey, who was shelved for a month with back tightness. Both Massey and Adam Frazier are left-handed hitters, so it remains to be seen how the workload will be divvied up at second base moving forward.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Posts third steal

Gimenez went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 10-2 win over the Athletics.

Gimenez is just 5-for-25 over his last six games, but he's driven in six runs in that span. None of those hits have gone for extra bases. The second baseman started 2024 hot, so it's not surprising he's cooled off a bit. Gimenez is slashing .291/.356/.380 with three steals, 13 RBI, 14 runs scored, five doubles and a triple over 91 plate appearances, but he's yet to hit a home run this season.

  • Nationals' Ildemaro Vargas: Tough night on basepaths

Vargas went 2-for-3 with an RBI but was caught stealing twice in Friday's loss to the Astros.

Starting at third base and batting ninth, Vargas had another good showing at the plate, but it was his misadventures on the basepaths that stood out in a 5-3 loss. He was picked off at second base by Justin Verlander and caught in a rundown in the third inning, then was thrown out trying to steal second base in the eighth. Vargas is batting .323 (10-for-31) with a 5:3 BB:K through 11 games and has been seeing semi-regular playing time around the infield, but Friday's performance won't endear him to manager Dave Martinez.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Swipes fourth bag

Garcia went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's loss to the Astros.

That's now four steals on the season for Garcia, including three in the last two games. The 23-year-old second baseman is having a strong start to the year overall, slashing .296/.333/.481 through 17 games with seven doubles, a homer, four runs and eight RBI, and he's hit either fourth or fifth in four straight games -- all against right-handed pitchers -- as the Nationals search for a batting order that can produce consistent offense.

  • Vidal Brujan 2B | NYM

Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Starting in first game of twin bill

Brujan is starting at shortstop and batting eighth in the first game of the Marlins' doubleheader against the Cubs on Saturday.

The switch-hitting Brujan will face off against Cubs right-hander Javier Assad in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Tim Anderson figures to start at shortstop in the second game against Chicago left-hander Shota Imanaga. Brujan has gone just 2-for-20 with one double, one RBI and one run to start the season.

  • Buddy Kennedy 2B | LAD

Tigers' Buddy Kennedy: Recalled from Toledo

The Tigers recalled Kennedy from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday.

With Gio Urshela (hamstring) headed to the injured list, Kennedy will come up from the minors to add depth to Detroit's infield unit. Matt Vierling has served as Urshela's replacement at third base since he was injured during Friday's game, but Kennedy could see a few starts on days when Vierling rests or plays in the outfield.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Gets Saturday off

Torres isn't in the Yankees' lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays.

Torres will get a chance to clear his head after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during Friday's series opener. While he rests, Jahmai Jones will fill in at the keystone and bat eighth.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Doubles twice in win

Hoerner went 2-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 8-3 win over the Marlins.

Hoerner paced the way as the leadoff hitter, and after a slow start to the season, he's now batting a robust .361 over his last 10 games. The infielder has batted .280 or better in each of the last three years, and he should be able to reach that mark again in 2024, particularly if he keeps up his recent level of performance.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Goes deep in loss

Semien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored during Friday's loss to Atlanta.

Semien's fourth homer of the year put Texas in front immediately, and his sixth-inning single sparked a rally to tie the game at 3-3, but the Rangers' offense ultimately wasn't able to keep up with Atlanta's. Semien has logged a hit in seven of his last eight games while slugging three homers in that span.
