Padres' Manny Machado: Sits with bruised hand
Machado (hand) is absent from the lineup Tuesday against the Royals.
X-rays came back negative for any fractures after Machado took a pitch off his left hand in Monday's series opener versus Kansas City, but he'll take a night off for rest and treatment while Ha-Seong Kim fills in at third base. Rougned Odor is covering second base.

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Out of lineup Tuesday
Sosa is not in the starting lineup Tuesday at San Francisco.
Alec Bohm is covering third base and hitting seventh against the Giants and right-hander Alex Cobb. Kody Clemens will play first base and hit ninth. Sosa enjoyed a strong April but is batting just .189 with a .420 OPS in 41 plate appearances since the calendar flipped to May.

Jared Triolo 3B | PIT
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Playing regularly at Triple-A
Triolo (wrist) has gone 5-for-17 with two doubles, a walk, four RBI and two runs in four games since Triple-A Indianapolis reinstated him from the 7-day injured list May 9.
Triolo missed the first month of the minor-league season while recovering from surgery to address a fractured hamate bone in his left wrist. After completing a four-game rehab assignment with Single-A Bradenton earlier this month, the 25-year-old third baseman received the green light last week to rejoin the Pirates' top affiliate.

Austin Riley 3B | ATL
Braves' Austin Riley: Belts seventh homer
Riley went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Monday in a 12-0 thrashing of Texas.
Riley went deep in the seventh inning, drilling a two-run shot to make the score 10-0. The long ball was his first extra-base hit over his past seven games, a span during which he's hit just .200 with 12 strikeouts over 30 at-bats. After averaging 36 homers and 100 RBI over his previous two campaigns, Riley is a bit below that pace so far in 2023 with seven long balls and 20 runs batted in across 41 contests.

Max Muncy 3B | LAD
Dodgers' Max Muncy: Launches two more homers
Muncy went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Monday's 9-8 win over Minnesota.
Muncy took over the MLB lead in homers with his 13th and 14th on Monday. With a .925 OPS, Muncy could end up posting his second ever season with an OPS over .900. The batting average is only .216, but great plate discipline and some extra power has Muncy rolling in 2023. He is on pace to top 40 home runs for the first time in his career.

Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI
Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Homers in fourth straight game
Arenado went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and four total RBI in Monday 18-1 thrashing of the Brewers.
Arenado set the tone early for St. Louis, mashing a three-run homer off Freddy Peralta in the first inning. The long ball extended his streak of games with a home run to four, and he's batting a red-hot .529 (9-for-17) over that stretch with four homers, 11 RBI and five runs. Arenado was batting just .239 through the end of April, but he's raised his average 25 points to .264 with an excellent first half of May.

Manny Machado 3B | SD
Padres' Manny Machado: X-rays return negative
X-rays on Machado's left hand came back negative after he exited Monday's 4-0 win over the Royals in the fourth inning, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Machado was sent for further testing after being struck by a pitch on the hand during his at-bat in the second inning. Though Machado took his base and was able to play the field for two innings, he was replaced by Rougned Odor when his next turn in the batting order came up in the fourth. Fortunately for Machado, he appears to have avoided any broken bones, but he may still be experiencing enough soreness or swelling that he'll have to sit out a game or two. The Padres will likely have an update on his status prior to Tuesday's contest.

Padres' Manny Machado: Exits after HBP
Machado was removed from Monday's game against the Royals after being struck by a pitch on his hand, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Machado talked his way into staying in the game immediately after being drilled, but he was removed a few innings later and likely sent for further testing. The Padres should have more to share about the injury after he undergoes X-rays.
