  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Evan Longoria: Day off Saturday

Longoria isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup Saturday against the Pirates.

Longoria is hitless in nine plate appearances since the beginning of July, so he'll get a day off Saturday to regroup. Emmanuel Rivera will fill start at third base in Longoria's place and bat sixth.

  • Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Back in lineup

Candelario (knee) is starting as Washington's designated hitter Saturday against the Rangers, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Knee soreness forced Candelario to sit out Friday's game, but the issue seems to have subsided ahead of Saturday's contest. Candelario is 5-for-21 with two homers and five runs scored since the beginning of July, and he remains a candidate to be traded before the Aug. 1 deadline.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Athletics' Jace Peterson: Sits against southpaw

Peterson will hit the bench against lefty James Paxton and the Red Sox on Saturday.

Peterson started against a lefty in Friday's series opener, but Brennan Bernardino was merely an opener in that contest. Peterson owns a career 52 wRC+ against southpaws, so it's no surprise to see him sit against Paxton. Aledmys Diaz will take over at the hot corner.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Giants' J.D. Davis: Not starting Saturday

Davis isn't in the Giants' lineup Saturday against Colorado, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Davis will get a rare day off Saturday after going 6-for-25 at the plate through the first week of July. Wilmer Flores will fill in at third base while batting third.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

White Sox's Jake Burger: Knocks 19th homer

Burger went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, three RBI, two runs scored and two walks in Friday's win over St. Louis.

Burger had a perfect day at the plate highlighted by his solo shot in the fifth inning to kick-start the White Sox's offense. The 27-year-old slugger is up to 19 homers this year, though he has just three with a .588 OPS over his last 20 games. His season slash line sits at .223/.282/.528 with 32 extra-base hits and 41 RBI through 255 plate appearances.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Goes deep twice

Arenado went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in Friday's loss to the White Sox.

Arenado launched a pair of two-run shots for his second multi-homer game of the year. His slow start to 2023 is now well behind him as his season slash line of .282/.329/.521 looks more like his usual production. Since the start of June, Arenado has registered a 1.053 OPS with 21 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs, and 26 RBI through 30 games.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Goes deep in extra-inning loss

Machado went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 7-5 extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Machado kept his bat warm with the pair of extra-base hits. He's logged multiple hits in five of six games in July, going 11-for-25 (.440) with four homers and 11 RBI this month. The third baseman's surge has him up to a .260/.305/.441 slash line with 13 long balls, 44 RBI, 39 runs scored and three stolen bases over 72 contests this season.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Heads back to IL

Pittsburgh placed Hayes on the 10-day injured list Friday with lower-back discomfort.

Hayes just returned Thursday from a two-week absence for a lower-back issue, and he apparently wasn't quite over it. He'll be sidelined through at least July 17, with Jared Triolo getting an extended audition at third base in Pittsburgh.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Out again Friday

Rendon (shin) remains out of the lineup Friday.

Rendon has been sidelined since fouling a ball off his left shin Tuesday in San Diego. He's appeared in only 43 of a possible 89 games so far this season. Mike Moustakas is covering third base Friday at Dodger Stadium, while Hunter Renfroe will get the start at first base.

  • Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Sitting with sore knee

Candelario is out of the lineup with a sore right knee Friday versus the Rangers, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Candelario was hit in the knee with a pitch Thursday and he'll now be forced to miss at least one game. Ildemaro Vargas will take over at third base and bat fifth Friday against Texas.
