  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Heads to bench Tuesday

Madrigal is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

With starts at second base in four of the past five games, Madrigal looks to be the Cubs' preferred option at the position for the moment, though he'll need to sustain a good run of health and offensive production to keep his spot atop the depth chart. Christopher Morel will get the start at the keystone Tuesday at Madrigal's expense.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Goes on IL with calf strain

The Reds placed Moustakas on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left calf strain.

Moustakas was one of the three Reds that was either scratched from the lineup or lifted early in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Mets with an injury, and though Kyle Farmer (neck) and Jonathan India (hamstring) are back in action Tuesday, Moustakas wasn't as fortunate. He'll now be sidelined until at least Aug. 19 due to the calf issue, paving the way for Donovan Solano to take over as the Reds' primary designated hitter.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Takes grounders Tuesday

Peterson (elbow) fielded groundballs Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Peterson is making good progress in his recovery, and he said Tuesday that he is now "basically doing everything besides hitting." It remains to be seen when Peterson will be ready to take cuts again, but he will likely be out at least another couple weeks.

  • Kyle Farmer 3B | ATL

Reds' Kyle Farmer: Ready to go Tuesday

Farmer (neck) is starting at third base and batting third Tuesday against the Mets.

Farmer is back in the lineup after missing Monday's contest with a sore neck. The 31-year-old has gone 3-for-17 with an RBI and a run scored over six games in August.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

    Reds' Mike Moustakas: Unavailable Tuesday

Moustakas (calf) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Mets.

Moustakas suffered a calf injury in Monday's loss and will now be forced to miss at least one game while nursing the issue. Donovan Solano will take over at designated hitter and bat fifth Tuesday.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Not starting Tuesday

Paredes is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Paredes will take a seat for the second time in four games while Ji-Man Choi and Brandon Lowe pick up starts at first base and second base, respectively, closing off Paredes' primary paths to playing time. Though he closed the weekend with a pair of two-hit games, Paredes has generally struggled since the All-Star break, producing a .208/.291/.333 slash line with just one home run in 13 games.

  • Ramon Urias 3B | STL

Orioles' Ramon Urias: Blasts three-run homer

Urias went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 7-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Urias helped the Orioles claim an early lead, hitting a two-out blast in the first inning. It was his first long ball since July 26, and in the 12 games since that date, the infielder has slumped, going just 5-for-42 (.119) with no multi-hit efforts. He'd gotten his batting average for the year as high as .268 in July, but it's down to .245 with a .721 OPS, 12 long balls, 40 RBI, 36 runs scored and a stolen base through 78 contests.

  • Marlins' Willians Astudillo: Clears waivers

The Marlins outrighted Astudillo to Triple-A Jacksonville on Aug. 1.

Astudillo will remain in the Miami organization after he was recently designated for assignment for the second time this season. He's logged 55 plate appearances for the Marlins in 2022, slashing .241/.255/.296.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Ready for Triple-A debut

Jung (shoulder) will be activated from Triple-A Round Rock's 60-day injured list Tuesday and start at third base in his season debut for the affiliate, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Entering spring training, Jung looked like the leading candidate to open the season as the Rangers' starting third baseman, but his hopes of breaking camp with the big club came to an end when he ultimately required surgery to repair his torn left labrum, an injury he sustained while lifting weights. At the time of his procedure in late February, Jung was expected to miss 6-to-8 months, but he progressed much faster in his recovery than anticipated. The 24-year-old began a rehab assignment July 28 in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, and after hitting .240 with three home runs while seeing time at both corner-infield spots over eight games, he'll get the green light to debut for Round Rock. If Jung holds up well physically and shows that he can consistently hit for power at Triple-A coming off shoulder surgery, a late-season promotion to the Rangers could still be in play.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Yankees' Josh Donaldson: Knocks four hits, drives in three

Donaldson went 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's 9-4 win over Seattle.

Donaldson put the Yankees on the board with a two-run single in the first inning and added a solo shot in the third, both against Logan Gilbert. The veteran third baseman has multiple hits in three of his last six games after producing just three multi-hit performances over his previous 20 appearances. During the small hot streak, he's knocked six extra-base hits with eight RBI and a 1.288 OPS, improving his season slash line to .231/.310/.405 through 364 plate appearances.
