Ruiz (head/knee) is starting Wednesday against the Cubs, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Ruiz was out of the lineup Tuesday after he took multiple foul tips in his catcher's mask and one in his right knee Monday. However, he appeared off the bench in Tuesday's extra-innings loss to the Cubs and went 1-for-2 with a walk. He's starting behind the plate and batting fifth Wednesday.

Contreras isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Contreras went 0-for-9 with a run, an RBI and four strikeouts over the last two games and will take a seat for Wednesday's series finale in Washington. Yan Gomes is starting behind the dish and batting eighth.

Stubbs went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three RBI and an additional run in Tuesday's 11-4 win over the Reds.

Stubbs slugged one of five Phillies home runs on the night and now sports a superb .898 OPS over 90 plate appearances this season. Though his production would warrant more playing time on most teams, Stubbs is expected to remain one of baseball's more lightly used No. 2 catchers while J.T. Realmuto is available. Realmuto is back in the lineup for Wednesday's series finale after getting a rare rest day Tuesday.

Fortes went 3-for-4 with two solo homers and three runs scored in a 4-3 win Tuesday over San Diego.

Fortes took Sean Manaea deep for solo homers in his first two plate appearances and singled and scored the winning run in the seventh. It was his first two-homer game in the majors. The big game may help snap a prolonged slump for the 25-year-old; he was 10-for-54 since July 13 entering Tuesday's contest.

Ruiz was struck by multiple foul tips in his catcher's mask and once in his right knee during Monday's 5-4 win over the Cubs and won't start Tuesday as a result, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Manager Dave Martinez said Ruiz isn't exhibiting any concussion symptoms, so he should have a chance to return to action Wednesday. After catching six times in the previous nine days, Ruiz probably would have benefited from a day off even if he wasn't roughed up Monday.

Nola is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins.

Nola had seen an uptick in playing time of late while Jorge Alfaro had nursed a knee issue, but Alfaro looks to be healthy again and will pick up his second start behind the plate in the Padres' last three games. Though he no longer has a clear path to the top catcher's role, Nola is off to a strong start to August and should play more than the typical No. 2 backstop. In 11 games so far this month, Nola has hit .265 with a home run, four walks, six runs and five RBI.

McCann is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game in Atlanta.

Coming out of the weekend, McCann appeared to be moving into the No. 2 role at catcher before Tomas Nido (illness) was placed on the COVID-19-related injured list Monday. After going 1-for-7 with an RBI while starting in both of the last two games, McCann will take a seat, though he'll likely rank ahead of Michael Perez on the depth chart for the duration of Nido's absence.

Stallings is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Stallings will give way to Nick Fortes behind the plate after catching in Monday's 3-0 win in the series opener. He reached base in all four of his plate appearances on the night, singling three times and drawing a walk while also driving in a run.

Realmuto is on the bench Tuesday in Cincinnati.

It appears to be a regular day off for Realmuto, who has accumulated two doubles, two triples and three home runs along with nine RBI in 12 games so far this month. Garrett Stubbs is the backstop for Tuesday's contest.

Atlanta placed Tromp on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a strained left quadricep.

After getting called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Aug. 7, Tromp went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in his lone game for Atlanta on Saturday against the Marlins. He apparently picked up the injury in that game and will now miss at least the next week and a half, but he likely wouldn't have stuck around with the big club much longer even if he hadn't gotten hurt. Travis d'Arnaud (lower leg) returned from a short-term injury in Monday's win over the Mets, giving Atlanta two healthy catchers again.
