  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Getting day off

Barnhart is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Curt Casali will check in behind the dish while Barnhart sits for the second time in the series. The Reds value Barnhart mostly for his defensive work, but he's been an easy out at the plate this season, slashing .207/.301/.390 over 93 plate appearances. His sluggish bat could prompt the Reds to sit him more frequently over the final week and a half of the regular season in favor of Casali, or even prospect Tyler Stephenson.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Hits first homer

Diaz went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Athletics.

Diaz gave the Rockies a lead they wouldn't lose with his blast off Athletics starter Sean Manaea in the fifth inning. That homer was Diaz's first of the year, and the RBI were his first as well. He also has two runs scored and a .250/.341/.361 slash line across 41 plate appearances.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Remains sidelined

Realmuto (hip) remains on the bench Tuesday against the Mets.

Realmuto left Saturday's game against the Marlins with hip discomfort and hasn't played since. It's not clear when he's expected to return. Andrew Knapp starts behind the plate Tuesday.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Slugs game-winning homer

Stephenson hit a two-run home run in a pinch-hit at-bat in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against the Pirates.

Stephenson was called on with a runner on and two outs, and he delivered his second long ball of the 2020 season. Since being called up Sept. 8, he's 3-for-9 with four RBI and a walk.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: On bench for Game 2

Barnhart isn't starting the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Pirates.

Barnhart will take a seat for Monday's nightcap after going 1-for-2 in the first game of the twin bill. Curt Casali will start behind the dish in his place.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Not starting Monday

Smith isn't starting Monday's game against the Padres.

Smith drew starts in the past four games and has been on a tear recently, going 8-for-12 with three doubles over the past three contests. He'll get a day off Monday with Austin Barnes starting behind the plate.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Not starting Monday

Realmuto (hip) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.

Realmuto left Saturday's game with hip discomfort and did not take part in either half of Sunday's doubleheader. The results of the MRI he underwent recently have yet to be released, but he evidently hasn't been cleared to start Monday. Rafael Marchan will make his big-league debut behind the plate in his absence.

  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Benched for first game of twin bill

Stallings is out of the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader in Cincinnati.

John Ryan Murphy will be behind the plate for the first game of the series, but Stallings should serve as the Pirates' starting catcher in Game 2. Through eight appearances in September, Stallings has gone 4-for-27 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI and two runs.

  • Cubs' Victor Caratini: Big day at plate

Caratini went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored Sunday against the Brewers.

Caratini busted out of a 2-for-17 slump to deliver plenty of production. He had two separate RBI knocks, the first a single in the fourth frame followed by a double in the seventh inning. His relatively lengthy slump has put a damper on his overall numbers, as Caratini is now hitting .253/.343/.316 across 108 plate appearances.

  • Chad Wallach C | ATH

Marlins' Chad Wallach: Adds insurance with homer

Wallach went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in an 8-1 win over the Phillies in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader.

Wallach swatted his first homer of the year in the sixth inning to account for the final runs of the game. It was just his second hit in 15 at-bats this year. Wallach sees infrequent playing time as the backup to Jorge Alfaro at catcher.
