  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Sits after four straight starts

Jansen is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Though Jansen is on the bench Wednesday, he started at either catcher or designated hitter in each of the previous four games and appears to be moving into a quasi-everyday role. With the lefty-hitting Brandon Belt having now hit the bench in two straight matchups against right-handed pitching, Jansen could end up seeing the bulk of the work behind the plate, which would allow Alejandro Kirk to serve mainly as a DH.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Resting for evening game

Rogers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Rogers will get a breather after he caught all nine innings and went 0-for-3 at the plate in the opening game of the day. Eric Haase, who served as the Tigers' designated hitter in Game 1, will step in behind the dish for the nightcap.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Taking Wednesday off

Trevino is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.

Trevino will get a breather for the series finale after he started behind the plate both Monday and Tuesday. Kyle Higashioka will form a battery with starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt on Wednesday.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Remains sidelined Wednesday

Gomes (head) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

According to Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network, Gomes hasn't yet been diagnosed with a concussion but remains in evaluation after taking a backswing to the head in Monday's series opener. He remains on the Cubs' active roster for now, but the Cubs called up Miguel Amaya from Double-A Tennessee on Tuesday to serve as backup option at catcher behind Tucker Barnhart, who will start Wednesday.

  • Rays' Christian Bethancourt: Resting Wednesday

Bethancourt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

He'll take a seat after going 1-for-8 with a home run while catching in both of the past two games. Francisco Mejia will check in behind the plate in place of Bethancourt.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: In starting lineup Wednesday

Perez (finger) will start at catcher and bat third in Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Perez was pulled late in Tuesday's 11-7 loss after getting hit on his left middle finger by a backswing, but he checked out fine after the game and will be back behind the plate a night later.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Sitting out Wednesday

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

The veteran catcher appears to be receiving a routine day off. With Vazquez sitting out, Ryan Jeffers will start behind the plate.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Resting Wednesday

Moreno is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

The Diamondbacks are wrapping up their two-game set in Texas with a day game, so Moreno will get a breather after he caught all eight innings of Tuesday's 6-4 loss. Jose Herrera replaces Moreno behind the dish.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Gets rest day

Realmuto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

He'll get a breather for the day game after a night game, affording Garrett Stubbs a turn behind the plate. Realmuto had caught each of the Phillies' last five games and went 6-for-18 with three-extra base knocks and a stolen base.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Not starting Wednesday

Nola is on the bench Wednesday versus the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Brett Sullivan will handle catching duties in place of Nola, who has gone 5-for-31 with a pair of extra-base hits and three RBI in his last 10 games.
