Byron Buxton CF | MIN
Twins' Byron Buxton: Set to take batting practice
Buxton (shoulder) will take batting practice Thursday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "There's a chance Buck goes out and plays a couple of games [on a minor league rehab assignment] before we would even think about activating him at this level," manager Rocco Baldelli said.
Buxton has been on the injured list since Aug. 3 due to a left shoulder subluxation. Since he'll likely need to play in a few minor-league games or more before he returns, he may not be activated from the 10-day IL until rosters expand in September, even if his rehab goes well.

Nick Solak DH | SD
Rangers' Nick Solak: Starts at second base
Solak went 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Angels.
Solak remained in the lineup after making his MLB debut in Tuesday's doubleheader. He replaced Rougned Odor at second base Wednesday and played there in the second game of Tuesday's twin bill. While Odor has struggled to a .202 batting average this season, it's way too soon to tell if Solak is being groomed for the job.

Michael Brantley LF | HOU
Astros' Michael Brantley: Gets day off
Brantley is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers, David Barron of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Brantley will get what appears to be a regular day off after starting 13 of the past 14 games for Houston, slashing .444/.500/.722 with two home runs and a 5:5 BB:K during that stretch. In his place, Myles Straw is starting in left field and hitting ninth.

Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Makes history with four-walk night
Alvarez walked in all four of his plate appearances Tuesday in the Astros' 6-3 win over the Tigers.
Despite not accruing an at-bat, Alvarez still had a very noteworthy performance with his four-walk outing. According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, the 22-year-old became the youngest player to walk four times in a game since Barry Bonds achieved the feat as a 21-year-old in 1986. Alvarez's on-base percentage now sits at .424, good for third among all players with at least 200 plate appearances since the rookie debuted June 9.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Heads to bench
Ohtani is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers.
Ohtani will head to the bench for Wednesday's series finale against lefty Mike Minor as the Angels give Mike Trout a turn at DH following Tuesday's twin bill. Since the start of August, Ohtani is slashing .364/.400/.561 with one home run and two steals in 18 games (15 starts).

Mark Canha LF | TEX
Athletics' Mark Canha: Laces 19th homer
Canha went 2-for-3 with a double, a solo home run and two runs overall in a win over the Yankees on Tuesday.
Canha helped answer a Gary Sanchez first-inning solo home run with his own bases-empty blast in the home half of the frame. The 30-year-old is swinging a blistering hot bat in August, posting eight multi-hit efforts, five extra-base hits (two doubles, one triple, two homers), nine RBI, eight walks, two stolen bases and eight runs. The surge has pushed Canha's season line to .266/.386/.521, with all three components qualifying as career bests.

Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM
Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Sitting out in series finale
Choi is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
The Rays are opposing a left-handed primary pitcher (Wade LeBlanc) in the series finale, so Choi will take a seat while Jesus Aguilar mans first base. Since generating eight hits in a four-game stretch from July 28 through Aug. 3, Choi has gone 5-for-35 (.143 average) with five RBI and two runs in 12 games.

Nick Solak DH | SD
Rangers' Nick Solak: Makes noise Tuesday
Solak went a combined 2-for-8 with a solo home run while playing both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Angels.
Solak made his major league debut, serving as the designated hitter in the matinee and the second baseman in the nightcap. He launched his first MLB home run in the fifth inning of the second game. He was brought up to Texas after the team placed outfielder Nomar Mazara (oblique strain) on the injured list. Mazara joins fellow outfielder Joey Gallo (wrist) on the IL. The 24-year-old Solak plays the outfield as well and could get a fair share of at-bats while the Rangers evaluate him over the final six weeks of the season.

Giancarlo Stanton DH | NYY
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Begins running on field
Stanton (knee) was seen running in the outfield prior to Tuesday's game at Oakland, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
It was last reported that Stanton was running up to 75-to-85 percent on an anti-gravity treadmill, so his progression to running on flat ground is good news for his recovery from the PCL strain. GM Brian Cashman said last week that the veteran slugger is expected to return in September, and the team is likely to remain cautious with his return while managing a comfortable lead in the AL East. Stanton has already resumed light baseball activities and should continue ramping things up, perhaps in advance of a rehab assignment.
