  • Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes leaves game after HBP

Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes left Wednesday's game with an apparent hand/wrist injury, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.

Cespedes was 0 for 1 with a walk prior to exiting in the third frame after being hit with a Justin De Fratus pitch. Looks for the Mets to update his status when more information becomes available.

  • Shoulder issue ends season for Indians LF Michael Brantley

Indians premier outfielder Michael Brantley (shoulder) will miss the remainder of the regular season after receiving a cortisone shot in his shoulder Wednesday, per Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.

Brantley returned to the lineup Sunday and Monday, but will now miss the rest of the year with his team technically alive in the playoff chase.

He should be fine for the start of spring training unless something unforeseen prevents it. He finishes the year with a fine .310/.380/.480 slash line, but lower power numbers than he achieved in 2014.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins OF Byron Buxton getting a start in Wednesday opener

Struggling Twins outfielder Byron Buxton is starting and batting ninth in the first half of the critical Wednesday doubleheader in Cleveland.

In 42 games this season, Buxton is slashing .207/.244/.306 slash line with one home run and four RBI.

  • Marlins OF Christian Yelich continues to rake Tuesday

Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich went 2 for 4 with a double and RBI in a defeat to Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

Yelich continues his torrid pace in September, having now reached base safely in 13 consecutive games and tallying 10 multi-hit performances during the month. He has been a terrific source of offensive production for a Marlins squad that has endured the loss of Giancarlo Stanton since late June, and he will close out the season with three consecutive months of .300-plus hitting.

  • Indians outfielder Michael Brantley may not return this season

Indians outfielder Michael Brantley (shoulder), who wasn't in the lineup Tuesday before the game was postponed, could be shut down for the rest of the regular season, MLB.com reports.

Brantley was scheduled to meet with a team doctor to discuss his persistent shoulder soreness but there's a chance the Indians will decide to play it safe and simply shut him down for the remainder of the season. Don't expect him back in the lineup for Wednesday's double header in all likelihood.

  • Darin Ruf DH | MIL

Phillies 1B Darin Ruf smacks three-run homer in win over Mets

Phillies first baseman Darin Ruf went 1 for 4 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's 4-3 victory over the Mets.

The veteran first baseman's first-inning three-run shot off Bartolo Colon was his third in the last seven games, and his fourth overall in September. Ruf has demonstrated some offensive pop in the form of 11 round-trippers over 252 at-bats and a .413 slugging percentage this season.

  • Mike Fiers SP | ATH

    Brad Miller DH | SD

Mariners shortstop Brad Miller held out Tuesday

Mariners shortstop Brad Miller is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

It's a bit odd to not see Miller in there against a right-hander (Mike Fiers), but there's been nothing to suggest an injury is in play. While Miller has gone 0 for 6 with two strikeouts in his last two games, he's still batting .310/.359/.448 for the month of September.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

A's 1B Mark Canha gets a rest Tuesday vs. Angels

Athletics first baseman Mark Canha is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

He was hit by a Hector Santiago pitch in the first inning Monday, but Canha stayed in for the remainder of the game, and there's been nothing from the team to suggest his absence Tuesday is related. Max Muncy will start at first base and bat eighth against right-hander Nick Tropeano.

  • Marlins RF Giancarlo Stanton officially out for season

Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton (hand) Stanton (hand) was officially ruled out for the season by manager Dan Jennings on Tuesday, the Miami Herald reports.

It's been obvious for some time that Stanton would not make it back to game action after his rehab from a surgery to remove a broken hamate bone progressed more slowly than expected. Stanton was noted to have an abnormal amount of scar tissue in his left wrist and struggled to regain strength in thehand while taking batting practice over the last several weeks.

He'll now have a full offseason to let the wrist heal and get back to full strength. The slugger's 2015 season ends with a beastly .265/.346/.606 triple slash with 27 home runs and 67 RBI over just 318 plate appearances (74 games). Still just 25 years old, Stanton's first-round upside will remain intact in 2016, but it's troubling that he's played more than 123 games just twice in his six major league seasons.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Cubs RF Jorge Soler gets Tuesday off to clear his head

Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Soler recorded just one hit over his last four games, so manager Joe Maddon decided to give him a day off Tuesday. Chris Coghlan will get the start in right field in Soler's place.
