Barnes struck out two in a perfect frame to earn a save over the Orioles on Sunday.

Barnes needed just 10 pitches to finish off the 1-0 victory and pick up his first save since Aug. 31. He's now converted five of his seven chances on the year and lowered his ERA to 5.40 through 31.2 frames. Since the start of August, Barnes owns a 15:6 K:BB and a 2.45 ERA across 16 appearances.

Alexander (3-10) took the loss Sunday in Kansas City, allowing four runs on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out two in five innings.

The damage against Alexander could have been worse as he was the beneficiary of two unconventional double plays -- one on a sacrifice fly and the other after a strikeout. Three of the six hits allowed went for extra bases, including Michael Massey's fourth-inning solo homer. Alexander has struggled mightily in his last four starts, going 0-3 with a 10.06 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and seven homers allowed in 17 innings and raising his season ERA from 4.03 to 5.35. Should he continue to start for Detroit, his next outing will likely be next weekend against the White Sox.

Sewald (4-4) blew a save but picked up the win during Sunday's 8-7 victory over the Braves, allowing two runs on two hits and a hit-by-pitch in one-third of an inning.

Sewald was brought in to get the game's final out after Diego Castillo served up a three-run Michael Harris home run that cut Seattle's lead to one. The 30-year-old immediately surrendered a single followed by a Robbie Grossman home run to fall in line for the loss until Seattle rallied for a walkoff win in the bottom of the frame. The rough outing snapped a seven-appearance scoreless streak, and Sewald has now blown a save in two of his last four games. He still possesses an excellent 2.67 ERA and 0.73 WHIP with 66 strikeouts in 57.1 innings across 59 appearances on the season.

Patino (1-2) allowed nine runs on five hits and four walks over 1.1 innings while taking a loss against the Yankees on Sunday.

Patino failed to record a strikeout while coughing up three home runs in the brutal loss. He served up a pair of three-run blasts, one apiece to Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton. The 22-year-old righty saw his season ERA skyrocket to 8.10 with an 11:13 K:BB through 20 MLB innings. With Shane McClanahan (shoulder) expected back next week, it's unclear if Patino will get another turn in the rotation.

Davidson (1-4) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk over two innings in a 12-4 loss to Houston. He struck out two.

After recording two scoreless innings to start the game, disaster unfolded for Davidson and the Angels in the third. Mauricio Dubon led off the inning with a home run, and Jose Altuve and Jeremy Pena each recorded singles before Davidson hit Yordan Alvarez to load the bases. Interim manager Phil Nevin then pulled Davidson for Mike Mayers, who surrendered a grand slam to Alex Bregman. Davidson has failed to reach five innings in five of his 10 starts this season and has allowed 22 runs in 27.1 innings since being traded to the Angels. He will carry a 6.96 ERA and 1.78 WHIP into his next start.

Karinchak picked up the save in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Twins. He struck out three in one scoreless inning with two walks and no hits allowed.

With Emmanuel Clase unavailable after recording the save in each of the previous two games, Karinchak stepped in and shut the door for his second save. The 26-year-old allowed two runners to reach base via the walk, but he struck out the other three batters he faced, giving him 47 punchouts in just 28.2 innings. Karinchak owns a strong 1.57 ERA to go along with a 1.15 WHIP on the season.

Winder (4-4) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over four innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

After being called up earlier in the day, Winder made it through four innings but was damaged by the long ball. Andres Gimenez got to him for a solo homer in the second, and Steven Kwan tagged him for another solo shot in the third. The home runs do not come as much of a surprise given his flyball tendencies and lack of bat-missing ability. His 41.0 percent flyball rate coming into Sunday would rank 15th among qualified pitchers, and his 15.3 percent strikeout rate entering Sunday would be the second lowest among qualified pitchers.

The Orioles designated Garcia for assignment Sunday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Garcia will cede his spot on the 40-man roster to catcher Cam Gallagher, whom the Orioles claimed off waivers from the Padres. Over his eight innings with the Orioles this season before he was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk earlier this month, Garcia allowed four earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out two batters.

The Athletics reinstated Honeywell (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday and outrighted him to Triple-A Las Vegas after he cleared waivers, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The fact that Honeywell went unclaimed upon being exposed to waivers demonstrates just how much the former top pitching prospect's stock has fallen after a series of arm-related injuries in recent seasons. Honeywell, who had been on the IL all season upon sustaining a stress reaction in his elbow in spring training, is healthy again after an extended rehab assignment, but he struggled to regain form during his time in the minors. Between stops at Las Vegas and Single-A Stockton, Honeywell posted an 8.49 ERA and 1.97 WHIP while striking out 11 in 11.2 innings across his eight appearances.

The Twins optioned Sands to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Minnesota will replace Sands in the bullpen with a fresh arm in Jharel Cotton, whose contract was selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Sands worked 3.1 innings in relief of Chris Archer (pectoral) -- who was placed on the injured list Sunday -- in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Guardians, giving up three earned runs on two hits and five walks.
