  • Austin Adams RP | WAS

Indians' Austin Adams: Optioned to Triple-A Wednesday

Adams was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Adams will head back to Triple-A to work on his development after a failure of a stint with the Indians. The 29-year-old gave up 10 earned runs in just 7.2 innings of relief while striking out three batters. He will be replaced by right-handed pitcher Shawn Armstrong, who was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Indians' Shawn Armstrong: Recalled from Triple-A

Armstrong was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes reports.

Austin Adams was optioned to make room for Armstrong in the bullpen. Armstrong was almost dealt to the Brewers in a deadline deal that got blocked by Jonathan Lucroy, and the Indians will now make use of his services. He has a career 3.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts in nine big league innings.

  • Twins' Stephen Gonsalves: Wild but effective at Double-A

    Gonsalves, 22, has a 2.79 ERA and 47:22 K:BB through 38.2 innings since being promoted to Double-A.

Opposing batters are hitting just .204 against the 6-foot-5 southpaw, who has struggled with command but continues to baffle the opposition nevertheless. Gonsalves had a seven-walk outing on July 24, but posted a 20:2 K:BB in the two starts before that game. Consistency will be the next step in his evolution, but the high strikeout rate and sub-3.00 ERA make him a prospect to watch.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Serves up two homers in loss to Angels

Manaea (3-6) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts in a loss Tuesday to the Angels.

Manaea was having his best run of the season, with a 1.69 ERA, 26 strikeouts and zero walks over his previous four starts entering Tuesday night. However, his control wasn't as sharp as it had been, and he was touched up for a pair of home runs which accounted for all five runs. Manaea did induce 14 swinging strikes, but he has now allowed 14 home runs in 15 starts and he'll have to keep the ball in the yard to improve his 4.68 ERA.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Records first save against Red Sox

Diaz picked up his first save as he locked down a scoreless ninth with three strikeouts Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Diaz's excellent 1.80 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 25 innings earned him the closer's role in the wake of Steve Cishek's troubles, and he looked great in his first appearance in the job. The only blemish was a walk, and the Red Sox swung and missed at five of his 18 pitches as he worked around the free pass with ease. Diaz's stuff is electric, and it's easy to see why the Mariners were willing to promote him to closer.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Returns to rotation with solid performance Tuesday

Andriese pitched four innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out three Royals in first start since June 25.

Andriese, who replaced the recently-traded Matt Moore, was limited to 58 pitches in his return to the team's rotation. In his nine starts this season, Andriese is 6-2 with a 2.72 ERA and 1.03 WHIP while notching 57 strikeouts over 76 innings. The sophomore is more than capable of doing some damage in a starter's role. He threw a shutout back on May 14 against Oakland, and notched a pair of seven-inning outings this season in which he allowed just one earned run. Andriese will be one of the hottest commodities on the wire following Tuesday's re-entry to the rotation.

  • Bo Schultz RP | PIT

Blue Jays' Bo Schultz: Optioned to Triple-A Buffalo

Schultz was sent down to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

Schultz was recalled by the Blue Jays on Monday and threw a scoreless inning of relief against Houston during Monday's extra-inning affair before getting optioned back to Buffalo on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, Toronto recalled Mike Bolsinger and selected the contract of Danny Barnes. Schultz has pitched well at the major-league level throughout his time with the Blue Jays and could be back with them later this season.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Takes over as Astros' closer

Giles will take over as the Astros' closer after Will Harris blew his second consecutive save monday, Angel Verdejo of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Harris' struggles boiled over Monday with his third blown save in his last five outings. With that, Giles will move into the closer's role on the strength of an excellent past two months in which he's racked up 35 strikeouts against just five walks over 21.1 innings of work. He has a 1.27 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP in that span as well. Provided that Giles can continue to live up to his lofty preseason expectations, he should be able to hold onto the closer's role moving forward.

  • Chad Green RP | TOR

Yankees' Chad Green: Will start Wednesday

Green will start Wednesday against the Mets, Wallace Matthews of ESPN.com reports.

Green wil inherit the rotation spot of Ivan Nova, who was traded to the Pirates on Monday. Green has thrown 8.1 scoreless innings in his last three appearances and will be making his first start since July 8 against Cleveland.

  • Daniel Norris RP | CLE

Tigers' Daniel Norris: Activated off 15-day DL

Norris was activated from the 15-day DL on Tuesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Norris recently underwent three rehab starts between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo, allowing a combined nine earned runs over 15.1 innings (5.28 ERA) and is now set to return from the disabled list. The 23-year-old will once again head to Triple-A Toledo where he'll likely stay until Detroit requires additional pitching depth.
