  • Bryan Hudson RP | CHW

Brewers' Bryan Hudson: Placed on injured list

The Brewers placed Hudson on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain.

Hudson has been a key piece for the Brewers this season, posting a 1.60 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 50.2 innings out of the bullpen. However, he'll be forced to miss at least two weeks with a strained oblique. Tyler Jay was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move.

  • Jesus Tinoco RP | MIA

Cubs' Jesus Tinoco: Booted from 40-man roster

The Cubs designated Tinoco for assignment Saturday.

Tinoco was traded to the Cubs on July 16 and threw four scoreless innings in relief for Chicago, but he'll yield his spots on the active 40-man rosters to make room for the recently acquired Nate Pearson. Assuming he clears waivers, Tinoco should remain in the Cubs organization.

  • Alek Jacob RP | SD

Padres' Alek Jacob: Recalled from El Paso

The Padres recalled Jacob from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.

Jacob has spent the entire season with El Paso, putting up a 5.59 ERA and 1.88 WHIP through 46.2 innings. Despite his lackluster performance, he'll be called upon to provide San Diego's bullpen with a fresh arm, replacing Adam Mazur on the active roster.

  • Padres' Adrian Morejon: Rare poor performance Friday

Morejon picked up a hold against Baltimore on Friday despite allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one batter.

Morejon had been effective coming into Friday, tossing seven straight scoreless outings and posting a 2.18 ERA on the campaign. That number shot up to 2.57 after the rough appearance against Baltimore, during which the southpaw allowed a solo homer and a double among the three hits he surrendered. Morejon was nonetheless credited with a hold, which has become fairly commonplace for him of late. After not picking up a hold in any of his first 14 appearances this season, Morejon has recorded eight across his past 20 outings.

  • Nate Pearson RP | HOU

Cubs' Nate Pearson: Traded to Cubs

The Blue Jays traded Pearson to the Cubs on Saturday in exchange for Josh Rivera and Yohendrick Pinango, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Pearson, a first-round pick out of Central Florida CC in 2017, made his major-league debut with the Blue Jays in 2020. Across 41 outings this season, Pearson has a 5.63 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 51:17 K:BB across 40 innings, though he has given up six runs across his last three appearances, including four runs against the Diamondbacks on July 13. He'll join a Chicago bullpen that has seven relievers on the injured list, including five on the 60-day IL. The 27-year-old Pearson will be under team control through 2026, per Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune.

  • Ryan Fernandez RP | STL

Cardinals' Ryan Fernandez: Takes extra-inning loss

Fernandez (1-3) allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out two over one inning, taking the extra-inning loss Friday versus the Nationals.

Fernandez wasn't able to hold back the Nationals' 10th-inning rally. After allowing one run across 16 innings from June 9 to July 7, the reliever has permitted six runs (five earned) over his last 6.2 innings. He's now at a 2.66 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 47:20 K:BB while adding a save, a blown save and 10 holds through 47.1 innings on the year. While he's certainly earned looks in high-leverage spots, his 3.8 BB/9 will likely continue to limit his effectiveness.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Back in minors

Atlanta optioned Hernandez to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Hernandez will be pushed out of Atlanta's bullpen as a result of Jimmy Herget's (shoulder) return from the injured list Saturday. Hernandez allowed his first earned run of the season during Friday's loss the Mets, giving him a 0.82 ERA through 11 major-league innings.

  • Jimmy Herget RP | COL

Braves' Jimmy Herget: Back from injured list

Atlanta reinstated Herget (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Saturday.

Right shoulder inflammation has kept Herget on the shelf since June 8, but he's now been cleared to return to Atlanta's bullpen after pitching a scoreless inning in the Florida Complex League. The 30-year-old has allowed three earned runs in 7.1 innings in the majors this season and should work in middle relief while in Atlanta. Daysbel Hernandez was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

  • Luis Ortiz SP | CLE

Pirates' Luis Ortiz: Yields three runs Friday

Ortiz allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks.

This ended Ortiz's stretch of five straight outings -- including four starts -- without allowing more than one run. The right-hander faded in the sixth inning, allowing a solo home run to Joc Pederson and walking Christian Walker before Carmen Mlodzinski completed the Pirates' collapse. Ortiz is now at a 2.75 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 63:24 K:BB over 78.2 innings through 27 appearances (five starts) this season. His next outing is projected to come at Houston.

  • Paul Sewald RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald: Converts 16th save

Sewald allowed a hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 4-3 win over the Pirates.

Sewald allowed two runs in a non-save situation Wednesday versus the Royals, but he bounced back Friday to protect a one-run lead. This was his sixth scoreless outing in July, but his other four appearances this month each saw him yield multiple runs. The closer is 16-for-19 in save chances with a 3.55 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 25:4 K:BB through 25.1 innings this season.
