Blue Jays' Justin Bruihl: Back in bigs
The Blue Jays recalled Bruihl from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Bruihl will join the active roster for the final weekend of the regular season, replacing Paxton Schultz in the bullpen. The 28-year-old Bruihl has a 5.68 ERA in 12.2 innings with the Blue Jays this season. He has been with Buffalo since Aug. 30.

Kyle Leahy RP | STL
Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: In line to start bullpen game
Leahy is lined up to serve as the Cardinals' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
As long as Leahy isn't needed to pitch in relief Friday or Saturday, he'll lead off a bullpen game in the final day of the regular season. Leahy has never started a game at the big-league level, but the Cardinals plan to stretch him out next season for a potential spot in the rotation. The 28-year-old hasn't gone more than two innings in any of his last 15 appearances, so his workload will be limited Sunday.

David Bednar RP | NYY
Yankees' David Bednar: Nails down 26th save
Bednar earned the save in Thursday's win against the White Sox, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.
The right-hander needed 18 pitches to retire the side in order and lock down his 26th save of the season. Bednar has now converted six saves in his last eight appearances, allowing just one run while posting a 9:1 K:BB in that span. Since joining the Yankees, the 30-year-old has converted eight of 11 save chances and turned in a strong 2.38 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and a 31:7 K:BB across 22.2 innings.

Will Vest RP | DET
Tigers' Will Vest: Notches 22nd save
Vest earned the save in Thursday's win against Cleveland, striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.
Vest entered with a two-run lead and delivered a dominant performance, striking out the side in order to bounce back after giving up five earned runs across his previous two outings. The 30-year-old has now converted 22 of his 29 save chances on the season while carrying a 3.06 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 74:22 K:BB through 67.2 innings.

Troy Melton P | DET
Tigers' Troy Melton: No-decision in short outing
Melton didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Guardians, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out one over 3.2 innings.
Making his first start since Aug. 13, the right-hander needed 49 pitches to record 11 outs, with his lone blemish coming in the second inning on an RBI double from C.J. Kayfus. Melton worked a clean first frame and otherwise kept Cleveland in check, but Detroit most likely had no intention of him working deep into the contest. The 24-year-old now owns a 2.76 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 36:15 K:BB in 45.2 innings.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mets' Edwin Diaz: Secures 28th save
Diaz allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Thursday's 8-5 win over the Cubs.
Diaz gave up a leadoff single to Carson Kelly but erased it with a game-ending double play from Dansby Swanson. It's been a strong September for Diaz, who has allowed just one run while posting a 17:3 K:BB over 11.2 innings, though the Mets haven't given him a ton of chances to rack up saves. For the season, he's 28-for-31 in save conversions while pitching to a 1.71 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 96:21 K:BB through 63.1 innings.

Brant Hurter P | DET
Tigers' Brant Hurter: Earns win in relief
Hurter (4-3) worked around a hit to toss 1.1 scoreless innings of relief and earn the win Thursday against the Guardians. He struck out two.
Detroit starter Troy Melton only covered 3.2 innings before Hurter came on and worked through the fifth in a critical game that saw the Tigers tie the Guardians atop the AL Central. The lefty logged his 12th game without allowing an earned run in his last 13 appearances, and he now has a sparkling 2.47 ERA for the season. Hurter has also struck out 66 batters in 62 innings this year, making him one of the top weapons in Detroit's bullpen for the second straight season.

Jalen Beeks RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Jalen Beeks: Takes loss as opener
Beeks (5-3) took the loss against the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing a solo home run while striking out one batter in one inning.
Beeks was tabbed as Arizona's opener for Thursday's series finale. He got through the first inning cleanly, but he was brought out for the second and subsequently gave up a solo home run to Freddie Freeman. Beeks was pulled after the homer, but he was stuck with the loss after the Diamondbacks failed to tack on any runs. Beeks sits at a 3.77 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 57.1 innings this season.

Braxton Ashcraft P | PIT
Pirates' Braxton Ashcraft: Falters late vs. Reds
Ashcraft (4-4) took the loss Thursday against Cincinnati, allowing two runs on eight hits and a walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out five.
Ashcraft was sharp early, holding the Reds scoreless through his first four innings, but he stumbled in the fifth, allowing a pair of runs after giving up four straight hits to open the frame. While it didn't end on a high note, Ashcraft had a strong rookie campaign as a swingman in Pittsburgh, posting a 2.71 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 71:24 K:BB across 69.2 innings. He'll likely be in the mix to claim a rotation spot in 2026.
