  • Jackson Kowar RP | BAL

Mariners' Jackson Kowar: Reinstated from IL

The Mariners reinstated Kowar (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Kowar will return to the majors after missing the entire 2024 season following Tommy John surgery last March. The 28-year-old right hander posted a 2.57 ERA and 1.29 WHIP across seven innings during his rehab assignment and did not yield a run in each of his last three outings. Kowar will be available to make his 2025 debut out of the Mariners' bullpen against the Nationals on Wednesday. Logan Evans was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Astros' Josh Hader: Locks down 14th save

Hader earned the save in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the A's, working around a walk while striking out three in a scoreless ninth inning.

Hader is now a perfect 14-for-14 in save chances this season. He's been nearly untouchable of late, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out 15 in his last nine innings. Hader's ERA is down to 1.50 through 24 innings this year with a stellar 0.79 WHIP and 35:6 K:BB.

  • Jake Eder RP | LAD

Angels' Jake Eder: Heading back to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Eder to Triple-A Salt Lake following Tuesday's game against the Yankees.

Eder was recalled by the Angels on Saturday and made two appearances out of the bullpen, during which he issued three walks, struck out three batters and did not allow a hit across three scoreless innings. He has a 4.78 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across six starts in Triple-A this season but could be brought back to the majors if the Angels require a spot starter or another bullpen arm. Robert Stephenson (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Angels' Robert Stephenson: Activated off IL

The Angels reinstated Stephenson (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Stephenson has been on the shelf since undergoing UCL repair surgery on his right elbow in May of 2024. He made five rehab appearances between Single-A Inland Empire and Triple-A Salt Lake and allowed two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out five across five innings. Stephenson has been given the green light to return to the majors and will be available out of the bullpen for Wednesday's series finale against the Yankees. In a corresponding move, Jake Eder was optioned to Triple-A following Tuesday's game.

  • Miguel Castro RP | CHW

White Sox's Miguel Castro: Pulled from game with injury

Castro was removed from Wednesday's game against the Mets due to right knee soreness.

Castro slipped after making an out at first base and was helped off the field by trainers. He allowed one run on no hits and a walk with a strikeout over two-thirds of an inning before exiting. The White Sox have a scheduled day off Thursday before starting a three-game set against Baltimore.

  • Camilo Doval RP | NYY

Giants' Camilo Doval: Named San Francisco closer

Manager Bob Melvin announced Doval as the Giants closer after Wednesday's loss to the Tigers, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Ryan Walker opened the season as the club's primary closer, but Doval overcame a bumpy start to work his way into the mix with five saves. The right-hander hasn't recorded any saves since April 24, though he's tallied two wins and six holds in that stretch while being unscored upon in his past 19 appearances. Before faltering with a 4.88 ERA in 2024 and being removed from the closer role, Doval was a reliable ninth-inning option for the Giants with a 2.77 ERA and 69 saves across his first three MLB campaigns.

  • Ryan Walker RP | SF

Giants' Ryan Walker: Demoted from closer role

Manager Bob Melvin announced after Wednesday's loss to the Tigers that Walker is being demoted from the closer role in favor of Camilo Doval, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Walker pitched a scoreless eighth inning during Wednesday's 4-3 defeat and has converted his past three save chances, but he'll now be dropped from the closer committee after opening the campaign with a solo grip on the job. The right-hander has gone 10-for-12 in save opportunities, but his 4.95 ERA and 1.30 WHIP are a far cry from the 1.91 ERA he posted in 2024. Doval, who has recorded 97 saves since debuting for San Francisco in 2021, has rebounded from a down year in 2024 with a 1.16 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB across 23.1 innings this season.

  • Evan Sisk P | PIT

Royals' Evan Sisk: Moved back to Omaha

The Royals optioned Sisk to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Sisk appeared in three games out of the Royals' bullpen during his MLB stint, allowing one run with a 6:3 K:BB over three innings. Andrew Hoffmann's contract was selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Frankie Montas RP | NYM

Mets' Frankie Montas: Next rehab start set

Montas (lat) is scheduled to make a rehab start with High-A Brooklyn on Thursday, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports.

The right-hander covered 1.1 frames in his first rehab start with Brooklyn over the weekend, and he's set to build up to 30-to-35 pitches Thursday. Montas has been sidelined since mid-February due to the lat strain, so he'll likely require at least a couple more rehab outings after Thursday before making his 2025 debut for the Mets.

  • Orioles' Yaramil Hiraldo: Sent down to Norfolk

The Orioles optioned Hiraldo to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Hiraldo had his contract selected Saturday and made his MLB debut, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings Tuesday. Matt Bowman had his contract selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
