Ryan (7-4) allowed 10 runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven over 4.2 innings Friday, taking the loss against the Padres.

The Padres teed off, tagging Ryan for five home runs that accounted for all but one of the 10 runs against him. This was just the second time he's been taken deep multiple times this year. Unsurprisingly, this was the 26-year-old's worst start of the season, and it inflated his ERA from 2.89 to 3.78 through 85.2 innings in 16 starts. He'll look to keep the ball in the yard in his next projected start, which is tentatively expected to be against the Tigers next week.

Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after his start Friday against the Blue Jays, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

He gave up two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three in 3.2 innings during the spot start. This was his 73rd appearance in the majors but just his first appearance as a starter. Garcia has generally been working between one and four innings in his minor-league outings, and his most likely role should he return to the majors is still probably as a reliever.

Bradish allowed two runs on five hits over five innings during Friday's win over the Reds. He struck out seven without walking a batter and did not factor in the decision.

Bradish coughed up a two-run shot to Joey Votto in the first inning but finished his outing with four straight scoreless frames. It was his first start after being activated from the injured list. The rookie right-hander lowered his season ERA to 7.01 through 51.1 frames, and he's given up a home run in 10 of his 11 career appearances. Bradish is projected to start on the road against the Rangers next week.

Castillo was traded from the Reds to the Mariners on Friday in exchange for four minor leaguers including Noelvi Marte, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Castillo has been one of the game's best pitchers over the past couple months, logging a 2.38 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 72 strikeouts in 64.1 innings over his last 10 starts. He gets a massive upgrade in team context, given the change in ballpark, defense and run support. He most recently pitched Thursday, so he could slot into Seattle's rotation early next week in the Bronx. Castillo is under club control through the 2023 season.

Manoah left Friday's game against the Tigers with a right elbow contusion.

Precautionary X-rays came back negative, and the Jays have Monday off, so Manoah could get a week to rest up before taking the ball again. He was hit in the right elbow by a comebacker off the bat of Jonathan Schoop and exited after giving up four runs in 5.1 innings.

McCullers (forearm) is scheduled to make his next rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Sugar Land, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

McCullers threw 52 pitches over three innings during his last rehab outing, and he'll continue building up his workload Tuesday. The 28-year-old is expected to make another rehab appearance the following Sunday if all goes well, which could be his final outing before being inserted into Houston's rotation.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Severino (lat) may be able to start throwing Monday, Max Goodman of SI.com reports.

Severino has been on a planned two-week shutdown since he went on the injured list July 14, so he would be in the range of that timeframe if he is able to throw Monday. Boone suggested that the right-hander's return to a throwing program is contingent on the next few days going well for him, so it's not yet set in stone. Severino will likely need at least a week to ramp up once he starts throwing before he's able to return to the Yankees' rotation.

Hill (knee) hopes to start Tuesday's game against the Astros, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Hill has been sidelined since early July due to a knee injury, but he made a rehab start at Double-A Portland on Thursday and allowed a run on four hits and no walks while striking out five in three innings. If the southpaw is cleared to return from the injured list to make Tuesday's start, he'll likely have his pitch count monitored since he tossed just 56 pitches during Thursday's rehab outing.

Odorizzi (finger) is scheduled to start Sunday against the Mariners, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Odorizzi dealt with a blister during his previous start Monday against the A's, but he's apparently been cleared to make his next turn through the rotation. He surrendered six runs during that outing and has a 5.91 ERA and 17:3 K:BB across 21.1 innings through four starts in July.
