  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Sitting out Sunday

Wendle is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Wendle remains in the strong side of a platoon at shortstop, and he'll get Sunday off with southpaw Patrick Sandoval on the hill for the Angels. Garrett Hampson will bat ninth and play shortstop while Wendle sits.

  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Sitting Sunday, ankle improving

Schmitt (ankle) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Schmitt received treatment on his ankle after rolling it during Saturday's win, but he told Slusser that he's "absolutely fine" and is just getting a regular day of rest Sunday. The rookie should be considered day-to-day, though he may be available off the bench for the series finale.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Gets breather Sunday

Abrams is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Royals.

Abrams is one of several Nationals regulars who will receive a day of rest in the series finale. Ildemaro Vargas will replace Abrams at shortstop and bat sixth.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Returns to lineup Sunday

Bogaerts is hitting fourth and playing shortstop against the Yankees on Sunday.

Bogaerts missed Saturday's game while dealing with wrist soreness, but the 30-year-old shortstop will return to hit cleanup against the Yankees for Sunday's series finale. Ha-Seong Kim moves back to third base with Bogaerts back in the lineup.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Phillies' Trea Turner: Nabs seventh steal

Turner went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 2-1 win over Atlanta.

He drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a fifth-inning two-bagger and also stole his seventh base of the year in the third. Turner hasn't changed his habits on the basepaths in 2023 despite the new steal-friendly rules, but he has yet to be caught stealing this season and is on pace for his seventh career campaign with 20 or more thefts.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Logs stolen base

Tovar went 1-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 10-7 win over the Mets.

Tovar has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, though this was his first steal in that span. While his bat has been solid, he has just one RBI and four runs scored in that stretch, though it's tough to make an impact from the bottom of the lineup. The shortstop is slashing a modest .226/.274/.357 with two steals, three home runs, 20 RBI and 23 runs scored through 49 contests, and a 28.5 percent strikeout rate isn't helping his cause.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Triples, drives in two Saturday

Swanson went 2-for-5 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Saturday's loss to the Reds.

Swanson showed off his speed and recorded his second triple of the season. The shortstop recorded his first multi-hit game since May 15 and is now batting .264 with a .782 OPS in his first season with the Cubs. He's been solid -- if unspectacular -- so far.

  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Getting treatment on ankle

Schmitt is receiving treatment on his ankle after rolling it during Saturday's game against the Brewers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Schmitt was able to stay in the game, but it was clearly bothering the infielder for the remainder of Saturday's win for the Giants over the Brewers. He should be considered day-to-day at this stage.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Remains on bench Saturday

Crawford is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Brewers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

A three-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, Crawford is batting just .172/.252/.323 so far to begin his age-36 season. He'll sit out a third consecutive game against a right-handed pitcher, so Crawford looks as though he'll be phased out as the primary shortstop in favor of Casey Schmitt. Brett Wisely is at second base again Saturday in place of Thairo Estrada (wrist), who was placed on the 10-day injured list.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Officially placed on concussion IL

Adames (head) was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Saturday.

Adames was leaning on the dugout railing Friday when he was struck in the head by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Brian Anderson. He suffered a concussion, but the good news is that Adames was alert and responsive throughout the evening, and he did not suffer any fractures. Andruw Monasterio was called up from Triple-A Nashville to provide depth to the infield while Adames recovers after the freak accident.
