  • Ryan Ritter SS | COL

Rockies' Ryan Ritter: Exiting starting nine

Ritter is not in the lineup for Monday's contest against the Giants.

Ritter had started each of the previous two games, but he'll be on the bench for the fifth time over the last eight contests, and his grip on the second base job appears tenuous, at best. Tyler Freeman will cover the keystone and bat leadoff Monday.

  • Joseph Ortiz 2B | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Reinstated from IL on Monday

The Brewers activated Ortiz (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Monday

Ortiz will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Phillies, with his return from the shelf pushing Andruw Monasterio back into a utility infielder role. Though he holds a weak .612 OPS on the season, Ortiz has performed much better since the All-Star break, slashing .294/.330/.394 slash line with one home run and two steals in 32 second-half contests.

  • Luke Williams SS | ATL

Braves' Luke Williams: Returns from injured list

Atlanta activated Williams (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday.

Williams has missed the last week and a half with an oblique strain and will bypass a rehab assignment and rejoin Atlanta. The utility player will serve in a bench role for Atlanta during the final month of the season.

  • Gabriel Arias SS | CLE

Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Held out again Monday

Arias (hand) remains out of the lineup for Monday's game versus the Red Sox.

Arias will miss a third straight start due to the bruised right hand he suffered after being hit by a pitch Friday. Brayan Rocchio will shift over to shortstop and Daniel Schneemann will get the start at second base Monday.

  • Nasim Nunez SS | WAS

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Back with big club

The Nationals recalled Nunez from Triple-A Rochester on Monday.

Nunez has seen spot duty at the big-league level this season, slashing only .186/.271/.233 in 23 contests. He will likely operate mainly as a reserve infielder.

  • Trey Sweeney SS | DET

Tigers' Trey Sweeney: Taking seat against lefty

Sweeney is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Sweeney will join fellow left-handed hitters Kerry Carpenter and Colt Keith on the bench for the series opener while the Mets send southpaw Sean Manaea to the bump. Though Sweeney started in both of the previous two contests and has been seeing semi-regular run at shortstop since being called up from Triple-A Toledo on Aug. 10, he's slashing just .205/.225/.359 over a stretch of 16 games. Sweeney could be at risk of a demotion or a move to a reserve role once outfielder Parker Meadows (quadriceps) is activated from the 10-day injured list, which could result in Zach McKinstry and Javier Baez seeing more playing time at shortstop.

  • Rays' Carson Williams: Ends hitless stretch

Williams went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Nationals.

Williams entered Sunday's game in a minor slump, going hitless in his last three starts while also striking out six times in 11 at-bats. He had a strong performance Sunday, however, drawing a bases-loaded walk before coming around to score in the second inning. Williams is hitting .250 with a home run, a stolen base, six RBI and five runs scored across his first eight big-league games.

  • White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Swats 15th homer

Montgomery went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Yankees.

Montgomery returned from a side injury to start all three games of the White Sox's weekend series against the Yankees. He continues to be productive at the plate despite a high strikeout rate, as he popped his 15th home run across only 46 games Sunday. However, Montgomery also struck out at a 31.6 percent clip while hitting just .198 across 91 at-bats in August.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Reaches in all five PA

Smith went 2-for-2 with an RBI double and two runs scored during Sunday's 9-6 win over the Athletics.

Smith drew three walks in addition to his pair of hits Sunday, marking his second game with three walks this season. The 28-year-old hadn't logged multiple hits in 15 straight games, going 10-for-55 (.182) during that stretch. He's slashing .257/.337/.379 in 438 plate appearances during 2025.

  • Jacob Wilson SS | ATH

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Collects three hits

Wilson went 3-for-5 with a two-RBI double and a run scored during Sunday's 9-6 loss to the Rangers.

Wilson notched his first three-hit game since June 7, a streak that spanned 42 games. The shortstop also logged multiple RBI for the third time in his last six games. Since returning from the injured list Aug. 22, Wilson is 11-for-33 (.333) with two homers, two doubles and a 1:1 BB:K.
