Nootbaar is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The left-handed-hitting Nootbaar typically plays against left-handed pitching, but he will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench as the Cubs send southpaw Matthew Boyd to the bump. Fellow left-handed-swinger Brendan Donovan will patrol left field for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals recalled Fermin from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Fermin will join the big club for the first time this season after slashing .308/.431/.483 with five home runs, 19 steals and a 19:37 K:BB over 55 games with Memphis. The 26-year-old has produced a .504 OPS in 66 career contests at the major-league level and will operate primarily as a reserve infielder.

Ramos went 1-for-3 with a double in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Marlins.

Ramos lined a double to left field in the fifth inning, marking his fourth straight game with at least one hit. The 25-year-old outfielder has recorded three extra-base hits over his last five outings, slashing .316/.381/.579 with five RBI, two runs scored, two doubles and one homer across 21 plate appearances. Overall, he's now slashing .286/.363/.476 with 48 runs scored, 43 RBI, 29 extra-base hits -- including 13 home runs -- and five stolen bases across 336 plate appearances so far this season.

Adames went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Marlins.

Adames drew a walk in the second inning and stole his first base since May 30. However, the star shortstop failed to record a hit for the third time in his last five contests, during which he has posted a .200/.368/.400 slash line with four runs scored, one home run and a 4:6 BB:K across 19 plate appearances. Adames' struggles at the plate have persisted this month, as he's slashing .203/.301/.391 with 12 runs scored, eight RBI, four home runs, one stolen base and a 26.5 percent strikeout rate in 83 plate appearances during June.

The Cardinals recalled Svanson from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Svanson has been shuttled back and forth between Memphis and St. Louis multiple times this season, collecting a 3.95 ERA and 12:7 K:BB over 13.2 frames during his time with the big club. He will provide manager Oliver Marmol with a fresh bullpen arm in Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The Cardinals optioned McGreevy to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

McGreevy struggled in a spot start in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Cubs, giving up five runs on seven hits and one walk in 4.2 innings. He will rejoin the Memphis rotation but should be the first pitcher to be called upon the next time the Cardinals require another starter.

The Cardinals placed Walker on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to appendicitis.

Walker will be eligible to return from the IL on July 4, but since he'll likely require an appendectomy that could result in him losing some strength, it wouldn't be surprising if the Cardinals hold him out through the All-Star break to afford him more time to get reconditioned. Since rejoining the Cardinals on June 14 after a prior stint on the IL due to a wrist injury, Walker has largely served as a short-side platoon player in the outfield. The Cardinals recalled infielder Jose Fermin from Triple-A Memphis to replace Walker on the 26-man active roster.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Vientos (hamstring) could be activated from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

Vientos will rejoin the Mets on Thursday ahead of their series finale versus Atlanta. The team might activate him prior to the contest, or it could wait until Friday to reinstate Vientos after the infielder played rehab games with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday and Wednesday. Vientos has been sidelined since early June with a right hamstring strain.

The Reds recalled Vilade from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Claimed off waivers from the Cardinals on June 14, Vilade spent about a week and a half with Louisville before getting his first call-up to the Reds. He'll join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for outfielder Connor Joe, who was placed on the injured list after coming down with hand, foot and mouth disease. The right-handed-hitting Vilade brings ample defensive versatility to the table and could serve as a short-side platoon player for the Reds, but he won't be included in the lineup Wednesday while the Yankees send southpaw Max Fried to the hill.

The right-handed-hitting Joe had played fairly consistently against left-handed pitching since getting called up from Triple-A Louisville on May 10, so his bout with the illness helps explain why he was left out of the lineup against southpaw Carlos Rodon during Tuesday's 5-4 win. Joe's IL placement is retroactive to Sunday, but it's not clear if he'll be fully recovered from the ailment when he's first eligible to return July 2.
