Early Monday, it looked like Week 8 was going to have plenty of positive moments. Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) and Cooper Kupp (ankle) were on their way back from lengthy absences, and that was great news for Fantasy managers.

But then everything went downhill from there. Brandon Aiyuk (knee) was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL and MCL, and we found out that Deebo Samuel (illness) is dealing with pneumonia and has no timetable to return. Jayden Daniels (ribs) and DK Metcalf (knee) were deemed week-to-week with the injuries they sustained in Week 7. And Jameson Williams was suspended for two games for violating the NFL's policy regarding performance-enhancing substances.

It only got worse during Monday night's game between the Ravens and Buccaneers. Chris Godwin (ankle) is likely done for the season, and Mike Evans (hamstring) could miss several weeks.

Let's hope that Tuesday brings better news, but this should be a busy week on the waiver wire. Plenty of Fantasy managers will need help at receiver, and there are some solid options at tight end heading into Week 8. Tagovailoa is the prize at quarterback, and there might be some running backs who can help you for this week and beyond.

While the injuries are unfortunate, other players will hopefully step up. And Fantasy managers could benefit with the right additions off the waiver wire.

Editor's note: For this waiver wire column, we are mainly looking at players rostered in less than 65 percent of CBS Sports leagues.

Week 8 Waivers
WAIVER WIRE
Quarterbacks

Injuries: Jayden Daniels (ribs), Tua Tagovailoa (concussion), Deshaun Watson (Achilles), Derek Carr (oblique), Will Levis (shoulder) and Aidan O'Connell (thumb).

Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Geno Smith (81 percent) and Aaron Rodgers (66 percent). Let's hope that Smith has DK Metcalf (knee) in Week 8 and beyond since Smith has scored at least 21.8 Fantasy points in three of his past four games and leads the NFL in passing yards. ... Rodgers only has one game with more than 16 Fantasy points in his past four outings and has five touchdowns and six interceptions over that span. But his upcoming schedule is beautiful against New England, Houston, Arizona and Indianapolis before a bye in Week 12, and he scored 25 Fantasy points against the Patriots in Week 3 without Davante Adams.

Drop candidates: Anthony Richardson (89 percent rostered), Justin Herbert (69 percent), Justin Fields (50 percent), Daniel Jones (40 percent) and Deshaun Watson (38 percent). Richardson scored 30.1 Fantasy points in Week 1 against Houston. Since then he's combined for 34.6 Fantasy points in three healthy games. He's looking like a bust heading into a Week 8 rematch with the Texans, and it's understandable if you drop him in all 10-team leagues. ... Herbert just had a season-high 39 pass attempts and 349 yards at Arizona in Week 7 but failed to score a touchdown. He's now scored 15.7 Fantasy points or less in every game this season. You can't trust Herbert in any one-quarterback leagues. ... Russell Wilson appears locked into the Steelers' starting job, which means there's little reason to roster Fields in any one-quarterback leagues. ... Jones may be worth using in road games, where he's scored at least 22.3 Fantasy points in three outings this season, compared to at home. Jones has scored 11.8 Fantasy points or less in four games at home. He plays at Pittsburgh in Week 8, but you can't start him there, and the Giants may be forced to use Drew Lock soon if Jones continues to struggle. He's worth dropping in all one-quarterback leagues.

Tagovailoa is expected to return in Week 8 from the concussion he suffered in Week 2 against Buffalo, and hopefully he stays healthy for the rest of the season. He scored 20.6 Fantasy points in his lone full game this year against Jacksonville in Week 1, and we know he's capable of being a top-10 Fantasy quarterback when healthy. He should be added in all leagues where available for at least 10 percent of your remaining FAB.

Wilson made his Pittsburgh debut in Week 8 against the Jets and did well with 28.9 Fantasy points. He passed for 264 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a touchdown, and he's not giving the job back to Justin Fields any time soon. He gets a favorable matchup in Week 8 against the Giants before a bye in Week 9, and hopefully Wilson can emerge as a starter in one-quarterback leagues, especially in favorable matchups against Washington in Week 10, Baltimore in Week 11 and Cincinnati in Week 13. Wilson is worth adding for 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

The schedule gets tough for Maye in his next three games against the Jets, Titans and Bears, but he looks the part as a starter for the Patriots and Fantasy managers. In two starts against the Texans and Jaguars, Maye scored at least 24.8 Fantasy points in each outing. He's worth carrying on your bench if you can roster two quarterbacks, and if he performs well in these tough matchups then you might be able to trust him to close the season, especially when he faces Miami in Week 12, Indianapolis in Week 13 and Arizona in Week 15. He's worth adding for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

Nix has emerged as one of the better running quarterbacks this season, and he has at least 61 rushing yards in each of his past two games against the Chargers and Saints. He also scored at least 19.3 Fantasy points in three of his past five games and now gets a favorable matchup against Carolina in Week 8 before facing Baltimore in Week 9, Atlanta in Week 11 and Las Vegas in Week 12. It might be time to consider using Nix in deeper one-quarterback leagues, and he should be added for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

Winston is poised to take over as the starter for the Browns with Deshaun Watson (Achilles) out for the season. Just keep an eye on if Cleveland decides to start Dorian Thompson-Robinson instead, although he's dealing with a finger injury. Winston replaced Watson and Thompson-Robinson in Week 7 against Cincinnati after both were injured, and Winston was 5-of-11 passing for 67 yards and a touchdown. We know Winston is capable of big games, but the Browns don't have the best receiving corps after trading Amari Cooper to Buffalo. That said, Winston should be added in all Superflex and two-quarterback leagues where available for at least 15-20 percent of your remaining FAB, and we'll see how he does if named the starter with Watson now out for the season.

Mariota took over for Jayden Daniels (ribs) in Week 7 against Carolina and scored 23.6 Fantasy points, and Mariota could start again in Week 8 against Chicago if Daniels remains out. It's a terrible matchup, so take that into account, but we know Mariota will make plays with his legs (he ran for 34 yards) and has the chance to be productive. He's worth adding in all Superflex and two-quarterback leagues if Daniels is out for at least 10 percent of your remaining FAB.

Aidan O'Connell (thumb) is a candidate for injured reserve, so the Raiders will go back to Minshew as their starter. He should be added in all Superflex and two-quarterback leagues for at least 10 percent of your remaining FAB. It will be hard to trust Minshew, who scored 15.9 Fantasy points or less in each of the first five games of the season when the Raiders had Davante Adams. But, in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, you can still use Minshew as a bye-week or injury replacement if needed.

We don't know when Will Levis (shoulder) will return to action, meaning Rudolph will start for the Titans and could be useful to Fantasy managers in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues. He only scored 11.9 Fantasy points in Week 7 at Buffalo, but Rudolph could be needed eventually as a bye-week or injury replacement if he continues to start while Levis is out. Rudolph is worth adding in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues for at least 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

Running Backs

Injuries: Christian McCaffrey (calf), Jonathan Taylor (ankle), Aaron Jones (hamstring), Travis Etienne (hamstring), Jerome Ford (hamstring), Jonathon Brooks (knee), Isiah Pacheco (leg), Tyjae Spears (hamstring), Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle), Gus Edwards (ankle) and MarShawn Lloyd (ankle).

Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Alexander Mattison (85 percent rostered), Jonathon Brooks (82 percent) and Ray Davis (80 percent). Mattison kept the lead role for the Raiders in Week 7 at the Rams even though Zamir White was healthy, and Mattison excelled with 123 total yards on 26 total touches. He's now scored at least 13.4 PPR points in four games this season, and he's worth using as at least a flex in all leagues if he remains the starter for Las Vegas. ... Brooks started practicing prior to Week 7, which means he's close to making his NFL debut. Hopefully he's 100 percent healthy following last year's torn ACL at Texas, and he could emerge as a difference maker to close the season. He should be added in all leagues. ... Even though James Cook is healthy, Davis should be rostered in most leagues as a potential lottery ticket. In Week 6 at the Jets with Cook out, Davis scored 18.2 PPR points, and he just scored 11.7 PPR points in Week 7 against the Titans in tandem with Cook.

Drop candidates: Antonio Gibson (70 percent rostered), Ty Chandler (63 percent) and Jerome Ford (62 percent). Gibson wasn't able to finish Week 7 at Jacksonville with an undisclosed injury, and we'll see what his status is for Week 8 against the Jets. With Rhamondre Stevenson healthy, Gibson has little value in most leagues, and he only scored 7.3 PPR points in Week 6 against Houston when Stevenson was out with a foot injury. ... Aaron Jones was able to play in Week 7 against the Lions despite a hip injury, which left Chandler with just two carries for 4 yards. And now that Cam Akers is on the Vikings, it's not clear that Chandler is the preferred handcuff should Jones miss any time in the near future. ... Ford is dealing with a hamstring injury and missed Week 7 against the Bengals. And with Nick Chubb now healthy, Ford has minimal Fantasy value moving forward in most leagues.

Jonathan Taylor (ankle) could return to practice in Week 8, so keep that in mind for Goodson and Trey Sermon. Wide Receivers

Injuries: Mike Evans (hamstring), Chris Godwin (ankle), Brandon Aiyuk (knee), Deebo Samuel (illness), Jauan Jennings (hip), DK Metcalf (knee), Chris Olave (concussion), Rashid Shaheed (knee), Nico Collins (hamstring), Jakobi Meyers (ankle), Puka Nacua (knee), JuJu Smith-Schuster (hamstring), Demario Douglas (illness), Quentin Johnston (ankle), DeAndre Hopkins (leg), Brandin Cooks (knee) and Adam Thielen (hamstring)

Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Jaxon Smith-Njigba (85 percent rostered), Wan'Dale Robinson (80 percent), Jerry Jeudy (74 percent), Jakobi Meyers (73 percent), Christian Watson (73 percent), Ladd McConkey (71 percent), Khalil Shakir (71 percent), Romeo Doubs (67 percent) and Keenan Allen (67 percent). Smith-Njigba could benefit in a big way if Metcalf is set to miss any time, and Smith-Njigba has three games in his past six outings with at least 13.1 PPR points. ... Robinson just had his worst game of the season in Week 7 against the Eagles with 8.3 PPR points, but he still has five games in a row with at least eight targets and five catches. Even though Daniel Jones is struggling, Robinson should still remain heavily involved in the passing game and should be rostered in all PPR leagues. ... Jeudy will hopefully benefit with Jameis Winston taking over at quarterback for the Browns, as well as Amari Cooper now playing for the Bills. ... Meyers has missed the past two games with an ankle injury, but hopefully he can return in Week 8. With Davante Adams now playing for the Jets, Meyers is the No. 1 receiver for the Raiders and a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in all leagues. ... Doubs has scored at least 17.4 PPR points in each of his past two games, and he should be added in all leagues. And I still want to roster Watson even though he only scored 1.5 PPR points in Week 7 against Houston. Prior to that he had 15.8 PPR points in Week 6 against Arizona, and I still believe Watson can be a high-end No. 3 Fantasy receiver in all formats. ... McConkey only scored 9.6 PPR points in Week 7 at Arizona, but he led the Los Angeles receivers in targets (seven) and receptions (five). He has the potential to be a No. 3 PPR receiver for the rest of the season, and he's worth stashing on your bench where available. ... Cooper played his first game with the Bills in Week 7 against Tennessee, and Shakir still had a solid game with seven catches for 65 yards on seven targets. He should continue to be a go-to option for Josh Allen even with Cooper on the roster, and I like Shakir as a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in all leagues for the rest of the season. ... The last time we saw Allen in Week 6 against Jacksonville in London he scored a season-high 21.1 PPR points with five catches for 41 yards and two touchdowns on five targets. Hopefully that's the start of a big finish for Allen coming off Chicago's bye in Week 7, and he's worth adding in all leagues where available.

Drop candidates: Brandon Aiyuk (100 percent rostered), Chris Godwin (99 percent), Calvin Ridley (73 percent), JuJu Smith-Schuster (69 percent), Rashid Shaheed (63 percent), DeAndre Hopkins (61 percent), Darius Slayton (52 percent) and Quentin Johnston (52 percent). It stinks that Aiyuk, Godwin and Shaheed are out for the rest of the season, but you can now drop all three in all redraft leagues. ... Ridley and Hopkins have each scored single digits in PPR in all but one game this season. Ridley had 24.7 PPR points in Week 2 against the Jets, and Hopkins had 19.3 PPR points in Week 3 against Green Bay. Other than that, both have struggled as Fantasy options and aren't worth rostering in the majority of leagues. ... We don't know when Smith-Schuster will return to action, but being ruled out early in Week 8 with his hamstring injury is a bad sign. I would drop him in all 10-team leagues. ... Slayton is worth dropping in all leagues while Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson are healthy. Nabers returned to action in Week 7 against the Eagles after a two-game absence with a concussion, and Slayton had one catch for 11 yards on three targets. ... Johnston missed Week 7 at Arizona with an ankle injury, and we don't know when he'll return to action. When healthy, Johnston is at best a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in the majority of leagues.

The 49ers lost Brandon Aiyuk (knee) for the season, and Deebo Samuel (illness) is dealing with pneumonia. George Kittle (foot) is also banged up, but we expect him to play in Week 8 against Dallas. Jennings missed Week 7 against Kansas City with a hip injury, but Kyle Shanahan said he hopes Jennings will return in Week 8. Tampa Bay was crushed by injuries in Week 7 against Baltimore with Chris Godwin (ankle) and Mike Evans (hamstring) both leaving the game. Godwin is likely done for the season, and Evans could miss multiple weeks. That puts the spotlight on McMillan and potentially Sterling Shepard (1 percent rostered) and Trey Palmer (1 percent), and hopefully all three can step up in a big way. I like McMillan the best based on upside, and he had eight targets against the Ravens, although he finished with three catches for 15 yards. He should start to see consistent targets, and he could emerge as a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in all leagues. Shepard could fill Godwin's role in the slot, and that makes him worth a look in deeper leagues. And Palmer is also a flier in deeper leagues if he gets a bigger role. Tolbert had a down game in Week 6 against Detroit with four catches for 43 yards on five targets, but prior to that he had scored at least 13.2 PPR points in three of his previous four outings. He'll continue to benefit with Brandin Cooks (knee) out, and Tolbert could be a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in most leagues heading into Week 8 at San Francisco. He's worth adding for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.

In the first game without Amari Cooper in Week 7 against Cincinnati, Tillman stepped up with eight catches for 81 yards on 12 targets. He's now worth adding in all leagues for 5 percent of your remaining FAB. We'll see what happens at quarterback for the Browns with Deshaun Watson (Achilles) out, but Jameis Winston should be great for Tillman if he's named the starter as expected. Tillman might not have a game like this again, and even without Cooper, the Browns still have David Njoku, Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore to lean on. But Cooper's departure might be exactly what Tillman needed to unlock his potential, and he's worth a speculative add to see what happens heading into Week 8 against Baltimore.

It feels like every week we're going to have a different receiver or two excel for the Packers while two guys get left out. In Week 7 against Houston, it was Wicks who ended up with a productive game with three catches for 48 yards and a touchdown on six targets, and he's worth adding in deeper leagues for 5 percent of your remaining FAB. We usually like Wicks when one of Jayden Reed, Christian Watson or Romeo Doubs are hurt, but Wicks now has two games in his past four outings with at least 13.8 PPR points. This could be a good week to trust him in three-receiver leagues in Week 8 against Jacksonville.

Bateman had a big game Monday night at Tampa Bay with four catches for 121 yards and a touchdown on four targets. He's now scored at least 11.1 PPR points in three games in a row, with two touchdowns over that span. He's likely going to be a touchdown-dependent Fantasy receiver, but he's attached to Lamar Jackson, which makes Bateman more valuable. He's worth adding in all leagues for 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

Coleman might benefit with Amari Cooper joining the Bills because now he'll get less attention. In Week 7 against Tennessee, Coleman had a season-high seven targets, and he finished with four catches for 125 yards. He's not someone you want to start yet in the majority of leagues, but Coleman is a great stash candidate for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

I hope that Odunze is ready to take off after the bye week, and the Bears have a favorable schedule to help the rookie receiver with matchups against Washington, Arizona and New England in the next three games. Prior to the Week 7 bye, Odunze scored more than nine PPR points just once, which was Week 3 at Indianapolis. The Bears have a crowded receiving corps, but I would like to see Odunze start to get more targets. He's worth a speculative add for 1 percent of your remaining FAB to see what develops down the stretch.

Cooper Kupp (ankle) is expected to return in Week 8 against Minnesota, but Atwell should still have the chance to make plays as the No. 2 receiver for the Rams. Kupp will impact Jordan Whittington more than Atwell, who has scored at least 11.1 PPR points in four games in a row. He has 19 targets in his past two games, and he could be a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in deeper leagues against the Vikings, who allow the most Fantasy points to opposing receivers this season. Atwell is worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

Palmer had a decent game in Week 7 at Arizona with Quentin Johnston (ankle) out with four catches for 63 yards on five targets. In deeper leagues, you can take a flier on Palmer with 1 percent of your remaining FAB. He hasn't done much this season, but now could be his time to shine if Johnston remains out, especially in a favorable matchup against New Orleans in Week 8.

Franklin is starting to make some plays for the Broncos and Bo Nix in the past two weeks, and you should add Franklin in deeper leagues for 1 percent of your remaining FAB. Franklin scored a touchdown in Week 6 against the Chargers with two catches for 31 yards on three targets, and he followed that up with five catches for 50 yards on six targets at New Orleans in Week 7. We'll see what he does against the Panthers in Week 8, but it's nice to see Franklin and Nix continuing their Oregon connection in Denver in the past two games.

Williams is worth adding now in deeper leagues in case the Jets are able to trade him. He's not needed on the Jets following the addition of Davante Adams, and it would be great to see Williams traded to Kansas City or Tampa Bay. He's worth stashing for 1 percent of your remaining FAB if you have an open roster spot.
WAIVER WIRE
Tight End

Injuries: George Kittle (foot), Dallas Goedert (hamstring), Taysom Hill (ribs) and T.J. Hockenson (knee).

Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Jake Ferguson (84 percent rostered), Dallas Goedert (83 percent), T.J. Hockenson (81 percent), Tucker Kraft (79 percent), Zach Ertz (75 percent), Pat Freiermuth (75 percent) and Cole Kmet (74 percent). Ferguson should continue to be a top-10 Fantasy tight end all season, and he scored at least 11.9 PPR points in three of his past four games before Dallas' bye in Week 7. ... I'm hopeful Goedert is healthy for Week 8 against the Bengals after he missed Week 7 against the Giants. When healthy, Goedert is a top 12 tight end in all leagues. ... Hockenson will hopefully make his 2024 debut in Week 8 against the Rams, and he could be a difference maker to close the season. When healthy, Hockenson can once again be a weekly starter in all leagues. ... Kraft has scored at least 12.3 PPR points in three of his past four games, and he's emerged as a No. 1 Fantasy tight end in all leagues. ... Ertz just scored his first touchdown of the season in Week 7 against Carolina, and he now has 10 targets, eight catches, 108 yards and a touchdown in his past two games. ... Freiermuth should benefit with Russell Wilson taking over at quarterback for the Steelers, and Freiermuth had two catches for 51 yards on three targets against the Jets in Week 7 in Wilson's first start. Better games should be coming, and I want to stash Freiermuth if possible in all leagues. ... Kmet had a huge game in Week 6 against Jacksonville in London with five catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns on five targets. The Bears have a crowded receiving corps, but Kmet can still be a low-end starting Fantasy option in most leagues. I'm hopeful Chicago keeps Kmet involved in the game plan coming off the Week 7 bye.

Drop candidate: Isaiah Likely (78 percent rostered). There's always the chance that Likely could score a touchdown, which he did twice in Week 5 at Cincinnati. But he also has six games in a row with four targets or less, and Mark Andrews is starting to get going again for the Ravens. Likely also has six games in a row with 27 yards or less, so clearly he's touchdown-dependent at this point.

Otton should benefit the most with Chris Godwin (ankle) and Mike Evans (hamstring) getting hurt Monday night against Baltimore. In that game, Otton had eight catches for 100 yards on 10 targets, and he scored 18 PPR points. He scored at least 9.5 PPR points now in four of his past five games, but there's a huge opportunity for him to be the go-to guy for Baker Mayfield moving forward. I would add Otton for at least 15 percent of your remaining FAB, and he should be considered a No. 1 Fantasy tight end in all leagues heading into Week 8 against Atlanta.

Henry has loved playing with quarterback Drake Maye the past two games, and Maye has helped Henry become a No. 1 Fantasy tight end in all leagues. Henry has scored at least 13.1 PPR points in each start with Maye with 11 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown on 14 targets in two outings against Houston and Jacksonville. He has a tough upcoming schedule against the Jets, Titans and Bears, but I'm willing to trust Henry with Maye under center. He's worth adding for 10-15 percent of your remaining FAB.

I don't expect Smith to be a consistent playmaker for Tua Tagovailoa, who should lean on Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle more than his tight end.
