  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Steps out of lineup

Donovan is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in San Diego, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Donovan is 5-for-37 over his past 11 games and will take a seat for Wednesday's contest. Tommy Edman will shift to second base while Paul DeJong starts at shortstop.

  • Padres' Brandon Drury: Absent from Wednesday's lineup

Drury isn't starting Wednesday against the Cardinals, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Drury returned from the injured list Thursday and started the last five games. He went 5-for-18 with two home runs, two doubles, four RBI, a walk and three strikeouts but will head to the bench while Wil Myers starts at first base and bats seventh.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Pirates' Michael Chavis: Riding pine Wednesday

Chavis isn't starting Wednesday against the Yankees.

Chavis has gone 0-for-10 with four strikeouts over his last three games but will retreat to the bench for the second time in the last three matchups. Zack Collins is starting at first base and batting eighth.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Still out of lineup

Hoerner (triceps) isn't starting Wednesday against the Marlins.

Hoerner is on the bench for a ninth consecutive game, but he continues to be labeled as day-to-day by the Cubs. Zach McKinstry will start at shortstop and bat eighth Wednesday.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: On bench again Wednesday

Rodgers (hamstring) isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Giants.

Rodgers continues to deal with a hamstring injury, but he recently underwent an MRI that had reassuring results. The 26-year-old is out of the lineup for a third consecutive matchup while Garrett Hampson starts at the keystone and bats eighth.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Swats 10th homer

Kim went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-0 win against St. Louis.

Kim produced the only long ball in the contest, going deep to left field in the fourth inning. It was his second homer in his past four games and his 10th of the season. Kim recently underwent an 0-for-18 slump at the plate but has bounced back by going 6-for-18 over his subsequent five contests.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Homers in nightcap

Marte started at DH and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, a solo home run and a second run scored in a 5-2 win over the Dodgers in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Marte helped the Diamondbacks rebound from a gut-punch loss in the matinee. It was the 12th home run in 129 games for Marte, who went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the first game. That he played both ends of the doubleheader is encouraging, given all the issues Marte's had with hamstring injuries this season.

  • David Villar 1B | SF

Giants' David Villar: Clubs sixth homer

Villar went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Rockies.

Villar's seventh-inning homer ended up giving the Giants all they needed to get the win. He hasn't hit consistently lately, going 8-for-33 (.242) across his last 10 games, but he's swatted two homers and four doubles in that span. The 25-year-old has shown solid power with a .444 slugging percentage through 139 plate appearances, but he's batting just .222 with six homers, 16 RBI, 17 runs scored and six doubles. Villar has been in the lineup for six straight games, seeing time at the corner infield spots as well as designated hitter, and it appears he's earned an everyday role.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Nursing elbow injury

Estrada is dealing with tightness in his elbow after he was hit by a pitch during Tuesday's win over the Rockies, and he could be held out of the lineup Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Estrada remained in the game after the hit-by-pitch and finished Tuesday's contest 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. The elbow issue doesn't appear to be a serious concern, though the 26-year-old may still receive a maintenance day Wednesday.

  • Luis Garcia 1B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Stolen base, RBI in loss

Garcia went 1-for-5 with an RBI single and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to Atlanta.

Garcia went hitless in his first four at-bats before ripping an RBI single off Kenley Jansen in the top of the ninth and stealing second base. The swipe was his third of the season and first since Aug. 26. Garcia is the middle of a tough stretch at the plate, batting .185 with 14 strikeouts over 54 at-bats in his last 13 games.
