  • Jorge Polanco 2B | NYM

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Held out Tuesday

Polanco (hamstring) isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Right hamstring tightness forced Polanco out of Monday's contest, and he will get an additional day to recover Tuesday. Josh Rojas will cover second base as a result, allowing Luis Urias to start at the hot corner and bat ninth.

  • Zack Gelof 2B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Returns from injured list

Gelof (oblique) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at second base Tuesday against the Astros.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined nearly three weeks by an oblique strain and is back with Oakland after a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. Gelof had a slow start to the campaign with a .597 OPS through 24 games but should operate as the Athletics' primary second baseman now that he's healthy.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Getting breather Tuesday

Marte is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Marte returned to second base for the last two games after spending two contests at designated hitter due to general body soreness. It would appear that him being absent from Tuesday's lineup is just a routine day off. Blaze Alexander is getting a start at second base and will bat second for the Diamondbacks.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | KC

    Royals' Adam Frazier: Idle Tuesday

Frazier is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.

Frazier will be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games, with Michael Massey playing second base and Nelson Velazquez operating as the designated hitter.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

    Tigers' Colt Keith: Sitting Tuesday

Keith is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Miami.

Keith will yield to right-handed Andy Ibanez on Tuesday as the Tigers face southpaw Ryan Weathers. In May, Keith is batting .250 with five RBI and three runs scored across nine games.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | COL

Twins' Edouard Julien: Sitting versus southpaw

Julien is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees.

With left-handed Carlos Rodon toeing the rubber for the Yankees, the lefty-swinging Julien will yield to Kyle Farmer at second base. Julien has made just two starts versus southpaws this season.

  • Luis Rengifo 3B | LAA

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Could return Friday

Rengifo (illness) fielded grounders Monday and could return from the injured list when eligible Friday, per MLB.com.

Rengifo came down with a viral infection in early May and landed on the IL when the illness caused painful blisters on his feet. His ability to take grounders Monday is a good indication that he's doing better, and there's a chance he could spend the minimum amount of time on the injured list. Upon his return, Rengifo should slide back into a starting role at third base -- Niko Goodrum, Luis Guillorme and Cole Tucker have been filling in at the hot corner in his stead.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Day off Tuesday

McNeil is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.

McNeil is getting a day off to regroup amidst an 8-for-42 start at the plate this month. Joey Wendle will occupy second base as the Mets try to even the series versus the Phillies.

  • Angels' Michael Stefanic: Begins rehab assignment

Stefanic (quadricep) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Monday, starting at second base and playing three innings while going 1-for-2 with an RBI.

On the mend from a left quad strain since late February, Stefanic has reached the final stage of his recovery program now that he's back playing in minor-league games. Since he's been out of commission for nearly two and a half months, Stefanic will presumably stick around in Arizona for a few more games before continuing his rehab at one of the Angels' higher-level affiliates. Once the Angels are confident that he's regained his timing at the plate and has put the quad injury in the rear-view mirror, Stefanic could return from the 60-day injured list around when he's first eligible in late May. He'll likely be ticketed for a utility role once he's reinstated, though Stefanic has a minor-league option remaining and could be sent to Triple-A Salt Lake if the Angels don't have room for him on the big-league roster.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Takes soft toss Monday

Edman (wrist) took soft toss Monday as he continues his hitting progression, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Edman has gone from tee work to soft toss and will progress to facing live pitching once he's ready for the next step. The switch hitter is being slow-played following complications in his recovery from right wrist surgery and still appears to be pretty far off from beginning a rehab assignment.
