Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Nursing tight hamstring

Kim is dealing with a tight left hamstring, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The issue explains why he's not in the Padres' lineup Friday in Cincinnati, although the team indicated his day off was precautionary, so Kim will likely avoid the injured list. Rougned Odor is playing second base Friday.

  • Ji-Hwan Bae 2B | NYM

Pirates' Ji Hwan Bae: Sitting Friday

Bae isn't in the Pirates' lineup Friday against the Brewers

The utility player is 0-for-25 across his last 10 games, forcing him to the bench against right-hander Freddy Peralta. In Bae's absence, Nick Gonzales will slide over to second base, and Tucupita Marcano will get the nod at shortstop.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Breather Friday

Westburg is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Twins, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Westburg will head to the bench for the first time since being called up Monday after he went 5-for-12 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored over his first three career big-league contests. Adam Frazier will start at second base and bat eighth in the series opener with Minnesota.

  • Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Taking seat Friday

Kim is absent from the lineup for Friday's tilt in Cincinnati.

Reds starter Graham Ashcraft has had a more difficult time against right-handed batters in his two seasons, although his splits are pretty even in 2023 (and bad against both righties and lefties). The Padres will go with the left-handed hitting Rougned Odor at second base Friday as Kim gets some rest.

  • Red Sox's Enmanuel Valdez: Goes on IL at Triple-A

Valdez was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Worcester on Thursday with left thumb inflammation.

Valdez was initially injured early last week and made a brief, unsuccessful return for two games before the decision was made to shut him down him. The infielder had homered in four of his first seven contests since his demotion before getting hurt and might have been poised for a promotion with Pablo Reyes (abdomen) also injured for Boston.

  • Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Launches ninth homer

Kim went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double and two RBI in Thursday's loss to the Pirates.

Kim put the Padres on the board with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second before launching a solo shot in the fourth to make it a 4-0 lead. It was the second baseman's fourth home run in his last seven games while he's also recorded three multi-hit games over that stretch to go along with nine RBI and six runs scored.

  • Owen Miller 2B | CHC

Brewers' Owen Miller: Absent from lineup

Miller is out of the lineup Thursday versus the Mets.

Brice Turang will start at second base and bat seventh after being recalled to the Brewers' major-league roster Thursday afternoon. Brian Anderson is covering third base and hitting fifth.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Returns to majors

Milwaukee recalled Turang from Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.

Turang made the Opening Day roster out of Brewers camp this spring but got demoted to the minors in early June after slashing just .205/.254/.307 across his first 177 major-league plate appearances. He then put up a .927 OPS with three homers and two steals in 15 games at Triple-A to push his way back to the bigs. The 23-year-old has good speed and a bit of power, though he might not play regularly enough to offer mixed-league fantasy appeal.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

Brewers' Luis Urias: Optioned to Nashville

Milwaukee optioned Urias to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.

Urias missed all of April and May due to a severe hamstring strain and has not been able to get it going here in June, so he'll head to the minors to face some lesser competition. Brice Turang is returning to the Brewers in a corresponding roster move.

  • Zach Remillard 2B | CHW

White Sox's Zach Remillard: Jumps to leadoff spot

Remillard is starting at second base and batting leadoff Thursday against the Angels.

It's his second straight start at second base and his first appearance atop the White Sox lineup. The 29-year-old boasts a .385/.407/.423 batting line through his first 28 major-league plate appearances and could continue to steal playing time from the struggling Elvis Andrus, though Remillard's lackluster minor-league numbers suggest that he is eventually going to run into serious regression.
