Vargas will start at second base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Though he'll be filling in for a resting Luis Garcia on Wednesday, the switch-hitting Vargas may be in store for at least semi-regular playing time at third base against right-handed pitching in place of Trey Lipscomb, who has produced a .393 OPS since rejoining the big club in early July. Vargas had started over Lipscomb in both of the first two contests of the series, but the Nationals will have room for both players in the infield Wednesday while Garcia rests.

Senzel is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Senzel looked as though he might move into a more prominent role for the White Sox in the aftermath of last Tuesday's trade deadline, but he's started in only four of the ensuing eight games since the deadline. Though Paul DeJong is now out of the White Sox's infield mix, the club has prioritized Lenyn Sosa over Senzel for the open spot in the infield. Senzel hasn't helped his case for earning playing time by going 3-for-27 with seven strikeouts since signing with the White Sox over the All-Star break.

Wade went 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-0 win against Pittsburgh.

Wade was a semi-regular presence in the Padres' lineup at third base for a portion of April while Manny Machado was limited to DH duties, but since the latter returned to the field, Wade has played sporadically. Tuesday marked his first start of the second half, and he did well with the opportunity, registering his first multi-hit game since May 22. Wade has given San Diego speed off the bench with eight steals in nine tries this season, but he's otherwise been a non-factor in fantasy with a .245/.322/.264 slash line, no homers, 21 runs and eight RBI over 121 plate appearances.

The Athletics recalled Alvarez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez is taking the spot on the 26-man active roster vacated by Seth Brown (personal), who went on the paternity list. He could see some action at first base while Brown is away but is a good bet to be sent back down later this week when Brown returns.

Solano went 4-for-5 with four RBI in Tuesday's 6-0 win over the Pirates.

The four hits and four RBI are both new season highs for Solano, who's batting .400 (22-for-55) over his last 16 games. The veteran infielder is unlikely to overtake Jake Cronenworth, Luis Arraez, Xander Bogaerts or Manny Machado for a starting role, though he's proven to be a useful piece off the bench and against left-handed pitching. Overall, Solano's slashing .314/.366/.427 with four homers, 25 RBI, 21 runs scored and a stolen base through 202 plate appearances this season.

Bote is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.

Bote hasn't started since July 28 and has seen light action in the Cubs' last nine games, appearing off the bench in just two of those contests. With the Cubs at full strength in the infield, Bote's opportunities are expected to remain fairly limited.

Lewis is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

After starting in each of the Twins' last eight games while batting .222 with three home runs, two doubles, 11 RBI and six runs, Lewis will get a breather for the Wednesday afternoon contest. Jose Miranda will spell Lewis at third base and bat third.

Marte went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Marlins.

Marte's bat has woken up against Miami; the ninth-hole batter has three hits, including a home run, in the first two games of the series. The multi-hit effort Tuesday was his third in 31 games and first since July 10. Marte will need to put together a consistent stretch to get back to the middle of the order, where he was projected to bat prior to his 80-game suspension and where he slotted initially upon his return.

Lewis went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Cubs.

Lewis' power has come right back to him after he missed over three weeks with a groin injury. Over 11 games since his return, he's batting .250 (9-for-36) with four homers and 13 RBI. The third baseman continues to split his time between the hot corner and designated hitter to limit the physical toll of playing the field. Over 35 contests this year, he is slashing .280/.357/.680 with 14 long balls, 31 RBI, 25 runs scored and eight doubles.

Paredes went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Twins.

Paredes connected for a three-run shot against Minnesota starter Pablo Lopez in the first inning, his first home run with the Cubs and 17th of the season. The 25-year-old had gotten off to a bit of a slow start with his new team, as he came into the night mired in a 3-for-27 slump over seven games since getting traded to Chicago. Paredes should continue to play regularly, however, and Tuesday's big effort could jump start a hot streak for the talented hitter.
