Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Goes yard Wednesday

Sanchez went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Mariners.

Sanchez singled and reached base via a hit by pitch earlier in the contest, then came through with a game-tying blast in the eighth inning. His 14 home runs are tied for most among all catchers and his 41 RBI rank second for backstops, but he's struggled to produce outside the long ball with just a .197 average and .297 OBP.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Out of lineup Tuesday

Vazquez is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Twins, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Vazquez will head to the bench for what appears to be a regular day off after going 1-for-4 in Sunday's win over the Mariners -- his third start in four games. Sandy Leon will setup behind the dish in this one, hitting eighth.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Tigers' James McCann: Retreats to bench Tuesday

McCann is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Reds, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

McCann will get the night off with the Tigers scheduled for an afternoon game Wednesday. In his place, Grayson Greiner will start behind the dish and hit sixth.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Sent down to Double-A

Trevino was optioned to Double-A Frisco on Monday.

Trevino was up for the Rangers' weekend series against the Rockies, appearing in all three games and going 2-for-8. He'll be sent back to Double-A, the level he was at when originally promoted. Reliever Ricardo Rodriguez was called up in a corresponding move.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

Angels' Matt Thaiss: Returns to lineup over weekend

Thaiss (personal) was activated from the temporary inactive list at Triple-A Salt Lake and appeared in three games for the club over the weekend, going a combined 1-for-11.

Thaiss was away from the team for three days while attending to the personal matter. The 23-year-old first baseman is slashing .308/.357/.549 across 98 plate appearances with Salt Lake since being promoted from Double-A Mobile in late May.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Not starting Monday

Gomes is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Gomes will get the day off after making four straight starts behind the plate. Roberto Perez will get the nod in his place.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Knocks in three

Gomes went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Sunday's 4-1 victory over the Twins.

Gomes came through with a clutch three RBI double in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie, which would ultimately be enough to get his team the win. He sits with 11 doubles on the season, to go with nine homers and 24 RBI through 50 games as Cleveland's primary backstop.

  • Austin Wynns C | ATH

Orioles' Austin Wynns: Late addition to Sunday's lineup

The Orioles added Wynns to the lineup Sunday against the Marlins after scratching Chance Sisco (undisclosed).

More clarity on the nature of Sisco's absence should come soon, but it paves the way for Wynns to make his fourth start behind the plate in five games. Wynns, who has opened his MLB career with four hits in 18 at-bats, looks to be stuck in the short side of a platoon behind the plate unless Sisco is forced to miss time.

  • Austin Wynns C | ATH

Orioles' Austin Wynns: Takes seat Sunday

Wynns is out of the lineup Sunday against the Marlins, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Wynns will head to the bench after starting three of the last four games behind the plate. Considering that each of those assignments came against left-handed starting pitchers, Wynns probably hasn't unseated Chance Sisco as the Orioles' top catcher and is likely still stuck in the short side of a platoon.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Makes first MLB start

Trevino started Saturday and went 1-for-3 with with an RBI single in a 5-2 win over the Rockies.

This was Trevino's first start in the majors, and it was memorable. He delivered a game-tying single in the seventh inning to help the Rangers end a seven-game losing streak. As important as the hit was his guidance of starter Mike Minor through seven strong innings. Trevino was called up this week from Double-A Frisco as insurance while Robinson Chirinos served a one-game suspension. He was pressed into duty Friday, making his MLB debut when Carlos Perez sustained an injury to his right ankle. Perez has since been placed on the disabled list, so Trevino is now the backup to Chirinos.
