The Toronto Sun reports the Blue Jays are considering bringing Ryan Goins back as the team's regular second baseman next season. Goins has received the bulk of the work at the position since Maicer Izturis went on the 60-day disabled list with an ankle injury in late August.

Though Goins has struggled at the plate, hitting .250 with three extra-base hits in 64 at-bats, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told the Sun that the rookie has "put himself in the picture for the simple reason that he’s able catch the ball and make not just the routine plays, but some difficult plays as well."

Brad Miller was out of the Mariners' lineup for Sunday's game at the Cardinals. He left Saturday's game early with a strained left hamstring, and MLB.com had reported that Mariners manager Eric Wedge anticipated Miller missing at least "a couple days."

Carlos Triunfel got the nod at shortstop in Miller's place for Sunday's contest.

Mets infielder Justin Turner is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins as expected. He's dealing with a hamstring strain but hopes to rejoin the lineup in the coming week.

Giants first baseman Brandon Belt had another impressive night at the dish as he recorded five hits and fell a triple shy of the cycle Saturday night against the Dodgers.

Belt singled in a run in the first, singled in another in the third, unleashed a two-run home run in the seventh and doubled in two more runs in the eighth. He finished 5 for 6 with four runs scored and six RBI in a 19-3 victory. He owns a .289/.362/.483 slash line with 16 homers and 62 RBI in 464 at-bats.

Mariners second baseman Brad Miller was forced out of Saturday's game against the Cardinals with a strained left hamstring. Miller appeared to have suffered the injury while running to first base in the fifth inning. He was replaced by Carlos Triunfel at the start of the sixth inning.

Miller finished 1 for 2 before leaving the game. He is batting .260/.314/.402 with six homers and 31 RBI in 281 at-bats. He is expected to miss a few games, according to manager Eric Wedge.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton continued his strong play Friday against the Mets, as he slugged a pair of home runs in a 4-3 loss.

Stanton clubbed two solo home runs in the game, his fourth in the last six games. He drove in two runs and scored twice, while striking out in each of his other two at-bats to finish 2 for 4. 

Stanton is hitting .256 on the season, but has been better in the month of September, with a .306 batting average. He has 22 home runs and 52 RBI in 367 at-bats for the season.

Mets infielder Justin Turner could not return to action against Miami Saturday. He continues to be day to day due to a hamstring strain. He's been out since Tuesday and hopes to return next week for the Mets. 

The Astros activated outfielder J.D. Martinez from the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's game against the Angels.

Martinez was not in the lineup Friday. He batted .256 with seven home runs and 36 runs driven in 273 at-bats before suffering a sprained wrist on July 26.

Mets infielder Justin Turner remained out of the starting lineup Friday against the Marlins as he continues to nurse a hamstring strain. Turner has been sidelined since Tuesday and is expected to return at some point next week.

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is in the team's starting lineup Thursday against the Mets. 

Harper missed some time with a hip injury, but was able to return Wednesday. The fact that he's able to play consecutive games is a good sign moving forward. Harper is hitting .273 in 363 at-bats.
