  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Homers, drives in three in big win

Morel went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 16-6 win over the Reds.

Morel hit a two-run shot in the third inning, his 17th home run of the season, and added another RBI on his 12th double. Despite the Cubs' acquisition of Jeimer Candelario at the trade deadline, Morel has stuck in the lineup, serving as the designated hitter each of the last two nights. With Candelario slotting in at first base, Cody Bellinger figures to play mostly in center, with Mike Tauchman also in the mix. Morel's playing time should be secure if he keeps delivering at the plate like he's done all season long.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rangers' Brad Miller: Placed on 10-day IL

Texas placed Miller on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left hamstring strain.

The good news here is that Corey Seager (thumb) has been activated from the IL in a corresponding roster move and will return to the Rangers' starting lineup Wednesday night against the White Sox. Miller suffered the hamstring strain in Tuesday's win over Chicago and seems likely to be out for at least a couple of weeks.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Out again with tight hamstring

Martinez (hamstring) remains out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Athletics.

Martinez has been sidelined all this week due to left hamstring tightness, though he said Tuesday that he believes he will be able to avoid the injured list. Chris Taylor is serving as the Dodgers' designated hitter Wednesday and batting sixth.

  • Mets' Daniel Vogelbach: Sitting versus southpaw

Vogelbach is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Vogelbach is 3-for-12 with a home run and a walk over his past four games, but he'll take a seat Wednesday with lefty Cole Ragans pitching for Kansas City. Pete Alonso will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Mark Vientos starts at first base.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Scratched with tight hamstring

Buxton was scratched from the lineup Wednesday at St. Louis with right hamstring tightness, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Buxton may have tweaked his hamstring while legging out a double in the Twins' defeat of the Cardinals on Tuesday night. There's no word yet as to the severity of the injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.

  • Mike Ford DH | MIN

Mariners' Mike Ford: On bench Wednesday

Ford is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Ford had some big hits for the Mariners in the early part of July, but he is slashing just .130/.216/.283 over his last 51 plate appearances. Cal Raleigh will serve as Seattle's designated hitter Wednesday with Tom Murphy handling the catching duties.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Red Sox's Justin Turner: Remains sidelined Wednesday

Turner (heel) remains out of the lineup Wednesday at Seattle.

Turner made an early exit from Monday's series opener against the Mariners due to a left heel contusion and hasn't played since, though there's been no talk of him requiring a stint on the injured list. Christian Arroyo will start at second base in Wednesday's matinee and Masataka Yoshida is serving as Boston's designated hitter.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Resting for day game

Cabrera is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Cabrera had started in each of the Tigers' last five games, going 5-for-17 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and a run scored during that stretch. Though Cabrera's been a part-time player for most of the season, manager A.J. Hinch has rewarded the 40-year-old with more playing time of late while he's been one of the team's better performing hitters over the past week.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Collects 13th steal

Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to Atlanta.

He fanned twice against Spencer Strider, with the first being the right-hander's 200th strikeout of the season, but Ohtani salvaged his night by singling and stealing his 13th bag of the year in the sixth inning, extending his current hitting streak to six games. In addition to his exploits on the mound, the 29-year-old is having the best campaign of his MLB career at the plate, slashing .304/.406/.676 -- personal bests in all three categories -- with a major-league leading 39 homers, plus 81 runs and 81 RBI through 106 contests.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Blue Jays' Brandon Belt: Pops ninth homer

Belt went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Tuesday's 13-3 loss to the Orioles.

Not much went right for the Blue Jays in this one, but Belt supplied their final bit of offense by taking Kyle Bradish deep in the third inning. The veteran first baseman is slashing .209/.341/.478 since the beginning of July, launching five of his nine homers on the year in 19 games over that stretch.
