  • Orioles' Seranthony Dominguez: Earns fifth save

Dominguez threw a scoreless inning to earn the save against the Astros on Friday.

Dominguez was called upon to protect a 7-5 lead in the ninth inning and did so on 19 pitches. Despite suffering back-to-back losses and yielding runs in three straight appearances entering Friday, the 29-year-old has converted all four of his save chances with the Orioles. He still appears to be the team's top choice for saves at the moment and owns a 4.31 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 55:15 K:BB across 48 innings this season, split between Baltimore and Philadelphia.

  • Chad Green RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Chad Green: Picks up fourth win

Green (4-3) picked up the win in Friday's 5-4 victory over the Angels, striking out one batter in one inning of relief.

Green pitched a clean ninth and got rewarded when Joey Loperfido and Addison Barger hit back-to-back homers in the bottom half of the frame to walk it off. The veteran right-hander has taken hold of Toronto's closer role and should remain in that spot the rest of the way. The 33-year-old has been electric since the middle of July, posting a 1.06 ERA over his last 16 appearances with eight saves.

  • Jimmy Lambert RP | CHW

White Sox's Jimmy Lambert: Out for season

Lambert underwent season-ending surgery on his right shoulder Tuesday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Lambert has been on the injured list all season after suffering a right rotator cuff strain during spring training, and he was pulled off his rehab assignment earlier this month after aggravating the injury. He has now elected to undergo surgery to address the issue, which will prevent him from pitching again this season. A timeline for his recovery has yet to be announced, so his availability for spring training next year is uncertain.

  • Yimi Garcia RP | TOR

Mariners' Yimi Garcia: Placed on injured list

The Mariners placed Garcia on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Tuesday, due to right elbow inflammation.

Garcia will go on the IL with elbow trouble for the second time this season. As a member of the Blue Jays, he landed on the shelf in June due to right elbow neuritis, and his return was delayed due to neck stiffness. He has struggled since joining the Mariners in late July, posting a 6.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across nine innings, and he has given up at least one earned run in each of his last three outings. Given his prior injury history, Garcia could be sidelined beyond the 15-day window, putting his availability for Seattle's playoff push in jeopardy. The Mariners recalled southpaw Gabe Speier from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.

  • Gabe Speier RP | SEA

Mariners' Gabe Speier: Up from minors

The Mariners recalled Speier from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.

With Yimi Garcia (elbow) headed for the injured list, the Mariners will call upon Speier to replenish their bullpen depth. The 29-year-old southpaw has struggled in the big leagues this year, accumulating a 5.95 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 19.2 innings. However, he's allowed just two earned runs over eight frames since being sent to Triple-A at the end of July.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

White Sox's Michael Soroka: Rehab assignment pending

Soroka (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte next week, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Soroka was cleared for mound work earlier in August and won't need to face hitters in live batting practice before starting a rehab assignment. The 26-year-old has appeared in 22 games (nine starts) for the White Sox this season, logging a 5.23 ERA and a 71:42 K:BB across 72.1 innings. He's recovering from a shoulder strain.

  • Greg Weissert RP | BOS

Red Sox's Greg Weissert: Sent down Friday

The Red Sox optioned Weissert to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Weissert had two scoreless appearances during his most recent stint in the majors but will head back to the minors in favor of a fresh arm. Joely Rodriguez will take his spot on the roster and in the bullpen.

  • Red Sox's Joely Rodriguez: Back with big club

The Red Sox selected Rodriguez's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Rodriguez has allowed 12 runs (eight earned) with an 11:2 K:BB over 11 innings during his time with the big club this season. He'll provide manager Alex Cora with another left-handed relief option.

  • Nick Vespi RP | PHI

Orioles' Nick Vespi: Optioned to Triple-A

The Orioles optioned Vespi to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Rill notes that this is the fifth time Vespi has been optioned this season, which is the maximum number allowed before he has to pass through waivers should the O's want to call him up and send him down again. The southpaw has posted a 2.92 ERA and 9:3 K:BB across 12.1 innings during his multiple stints this year in the big leagues.

  • Keegan Akin RP | BAL

Orioles' Keegan Akin: Reinstated from paternity leave

The Orioles activated Akin from the paternity list Friday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Akin missed the last three games while tending to more important family matters but will be available for the remainder of the Orioles' weekend series against the Astros. The left-hander has had an excellent season for Baltimore, collecting a 3.52 ERA and 78:16 K:BB over 64 innings.
