  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: On cusp of activation

    Holder (wrist) joined the Pirates in Cleveland on Saturday and is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list Sunday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

    Holderman has been on the injured list since Aug. 8 due to a sprained right wrist. He began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Aug. 20, and in his five outings, he's allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out eight over five innings.

    Guardians' Tim Herrin: Leaves game Saturday

    Herrin left Saturday's game against the Pirates in the eighth inning of due to a left arm injury, Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

    Herrin was hit in the arm by a liner from Oneil Cruz, and the 27-year-old reliever was replaced by Eli Morgan shortly thereafter. Across his 19 outings since the All-Star break, Herrin has a 3.63 ERA and 1.04 WHIP across 17.1 innings.

    Cubs' Porter Hodge: Secures third save

    Hodge earned the save in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Nationals, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.

    Hodge put two runners on with one out but registered back-to-back punchouts to earn his third save of the season. He has recorded either a win or a save in four of his past five outings and has not allowed a run in 11 consecutive appearances. On the season, the rookie has been impressive across the board with a 1.80 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 45:15 K:BB over 35 innings and figures to lead the Cubs in save chances down the stretch.

    Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Lands on IL with shoulder injury

    The Dodgers placed Kelly on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right shoulder inflammation.

    Kelly was roughed up in Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one over 1.2 innings. The injury could explain Kelly's struggles, though it's uncertain whether his bout with inflammation is related to the strained shoulder that previously cost the reliever tow months of action this season.

    Mets' Alex Young: Bound for Queens

    The Mets will recall Young from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

    MLB rosters will expand to 28 players Sunday, which will allow the Mets to add Young to their bullpen as additional depth. The 30-year-old southpaw has allowed just one run in nine innings between New York and Cincinnati this season, though he's given up four runs over 6.2 frames at Syracuse since making his last MLB appearance.

    Rockies' Victor Vodnik: Throws off mound

    Vodnik (biceps) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

    Vodnik was only able to throw at about 80 percent intensity, though it's still a step in the right direction, as it marks the first time he's thrown off a mound since landing on the injured list Aug. 21. The 24-year-old righty will be eligible for activation Tuesday, but the Rockies will likely look to have him face live hitters before clearing him to return.

  • Padres' Wandy Peralta: Moves rehab to Double-A

    Peralta (thigh) had his minor-league rehab assignment moved from Single-A Lake Elsinore to Double-A San Antonio on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

    Peralta logged a perfect inning with one strikeout in his first appearance with San Antonio on Friday. It was the veteran reliever's third minor-league rehab outing overall, and he's thus far pitched 3.1 scoreless frames while posting a 3:1 K:BB. Peralta's return to the Padres' bullpen could be imminent.

  • Padres' Stephen Kolek: Yet to throw off mound

    Kolek (forearm) has been playing catch but hasn't yet thrown off a mound, per MLB.com.

    Kolek is rehabbing from right forearm tendinitis, but it's not clear how close he may be to a return to the Padres. The righty reliever logged 42 appearances with the team prior to getting hurt, posting a 5.21 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB over 46.2 frames. If Kolek makes it back to the big-league bullpen before the end of the season, he'll likely take on a low-leverage role.

    Mariners' Gabe Speier: Sent back to Tacoma

    The Mariners optioned Speier to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

    Speier made one appearance with the Mariners after being recalled Aug. 23, pitching a scoreless frame against the Giants while striking out two batters. He'll now give up his spot on the active roster to Luis Urias, as the Mariners opt to add another bat to their bench.

    Rangers' Chase Anderson: Contract selected

    The Rangers selected Anderson's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.

    Anderson signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Aug. 5, and although he has since allowed nine earned runs in just 11.2 innings, he'll join the big-league squad to provide Texas with a multi-inning relief option. Dane Dunning was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.
