  • Clay Holmes SP | CHC

Yankees' Clay Holmes: Seals save after rocky outing

Holmes picked up his seventh save during Thursday's 2-1 win over the Angels. He allowed zero runs on zero hits, one walk and two hit batsmen while striking out one over one inning.

After retiring the first two batters, Holmes found himself in trouble after walking Shohei Ohtani and hitting Mike Trout and Jared Walsh. However, the right-hander sealed the save by getting Luis Rengifo on a groundout to shortstop. Holmes continues to shine, notching 23 straight scoreless appearances, and with Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) sidelined, he has recorded five straight saves and figures to continue operating as the Yankees' high-leverage reliever.

  • Nick Vespi RP | PHI

Orioles' Nick Vespi: Recalled from Triple-A

Vespi was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

After being sent down to Triple-A on May 21, Vespi will make his return to the big leagues Friday. The 26-year-old tossed two scoreless innings in his major-league debut May 20 versus the Rays, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out three. Vespi will operate as a bullpen option and has a chance to stick around with Joey Krehbiel (shoulder) banged up right now.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Twins' Jhoan Duran: Likely primary closer in Toronto

Duran is likely to serve as Minnesota's primary closer for this weekend's three-game series in Toronto after Emilio Pagan (not injury related) was placed on the restricted list Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The rookie right-hander is already seeing occasional save chances for Minnesota this year with four saves in 18 appearances, and he's now expected to be the primary option this weekend with Pagan not traveling to Canada. Duran has been excellent in his first taste of the majors with a 2.22 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and impressive 35:4 K:BB over 24.1 innings.

  • Trevor Megill RP | MIL

Twins' Trevor Megill: Placed on restricted list

Megill (not injury related) was placed on the restricted list Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Megill is apparently unvaccinated, so he'll be unable to enter Canada for this weekend's three-game series in Toronto. He should rejoin the Twins for their subsequent series against the Yankees, which begins Tuesday.

  • Caleb Thielbar RP | CHC

Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Shifts to restricted list

Thielbar (not injury related) was placed on the restricted list Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Thielbar won't be able to join the Twins for a three-game series in Toronto this weekend since he is apparently unvaccinated. The left-hander should rejoin the active roster ahead of Tuesday's series opener versus the Yankees.

  • Emilio Pagan RP | CIN

Twins' Emilio Pagan: Moves to restricted list

Pagan (not injury related) was placed on the restricted list Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Pagan is apparently unvaccinated and is unable to enter Canada as the Twins take on the Blue Jays for a three-game series this weekend. The 31-year-old should be back with the team for the subsequent series against the Yankees, which begins Tuesday. Rookie Jhoan Duran should operate as Minnesota's top option for save chances in the meantime.

  • Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Improves to 6-0

Thompson (6-0) allowed three runs on five hits across 5.1 innings to earn the win Thursday against the Cardinals. He walked three and struck out three.

Thompson wasn't dominant, but he did enough to maintain his perfect record this year. It was only the righty's fourth start of the season, as two of his six wins so far have come in relief. He should stick in the rotation for now, particularly with Wade Miley (shoulder) and Drew Smyly (oblique) both on the injured list. Thompson will carry a 1.99 ERA into his next scheduled start, which tentatively lines up for Wednesday against the Orioles.

  • Albert Abreu RP | CIN

Royals' Albert Abreu: Dealt to Royals

Abreu was traded from the Rangers to the Royals in exchange for Yohanse Morel on Thursday.

Abreu was designated for assignment Monday, but he'll get a new opportunity in Kansas City. If he hopes to stick with his new club, Abreu will have to improve his ability to find the strike zone, as he has walked 12 batters across 8.2 innings for the season and has a 15.8 percent walk rate in his big-league career.

  • Taylor Hearn RP | KC

Rangers' Taylor Hearn: Takes fourth loss

Hearn (3-4) allowed three earned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out three across four innings to take the loss Thursday against the Rays.

Hearn labored through the third inning as he walked three and allowed two hits to account for two of his three earned runs. He's been inconsistent in his ability to work deep into games, as he's now failed to record at least 15 outs in three of his last four starts. That gives Hearn little margin for error when it comes to his ratio stats, and he now owns a 5.48 ERA across 10 starts for the campaign.

  • Mike Mayers RP | TOR

    Angels' Mike Mayers: Clears waivers

Mayers cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Mayers was designated for assignment by the Angels on May 26, but he'll remain in the organization. He struggled to a 5.40 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 16.2 innings to begin the campaign, though it's possible he rejoins the big-league club at some point in the coming months.
