  • Emmanuel Clase RP | CLE

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Fans three for fifth save

Clase earned the save in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Twins, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three in the ninth inning. He did not issue a walk.

Clase got the call for the ninth inning to protect a three-run lead. He struck out two of the first three batters faced, and after giving up a run on a wild pitch, fanned Kody Clemens to come away with the save. It was Clase's first save since April 19, but Wednesday marked the sixth time that he has given up at least one earned run in 14 outings this season. He's up to a 6.75 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB across 13.1 innings in 2025 and will continue to split closing duties with Cade Smith.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Padres' Robert Suarez: Up to 12 saves

Suarez earned the save in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Giants, issuing one walk while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

Suarez's stellar start to the year continued Wednesday, as he improved to 12-for-12 in save chances with another scoreless appearance to reclaim the league lead. Suarez has allowed just one run in his first 14 innings, posting a sparkling 0.57 WHIP with 16:3 K:BB.

  • Brenan Hanifee RP | DET

Tigers' Brenan Hanifee: Earns second win Wednesday

Hanifee (2-0) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Wednesday's 7-4 victory over the Astros. He allowed two hits and a walk while striking out three.

Detroit starter Jackson Jobe only managed to cover four innings, which opened the door for Hanifee to earn his second win out of the bullpen this season. The righty has been stellar for the Tigers, allowing just two earned runs across 16.1 innings while notching 12 strikeouts. After posting a 1.84 ERA during the regular season last year, Hanifee has carved out a role as a reliable reliever in Detroit.

  • Tommy Kahnle RP | BOS

Tigers' Tommy Kahnle: Secures fifth save

Kahnle earned the save Wednesday against the Astros after giving up a walk and no hits across 1.1 scoreless innings. He struck out two.

Kahnle recorded the final out of the eighth inning and returned for the ninth, when he retired the side in order. It's the first save since April 18 for the right-hander, while Will Vest went 3-for-4 in save chances during that 11-day stretch. Vest appears to be the current favorite at closer given the recent usage, but Kahnle remains in the mix and has gone 5-for-6 in save opportunities with a 0.77 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB across 11.2 innings this year.

  • Chris Devenski RP | PIT

Mets' Chris Devenski: Promoted to majors

The Mets selected Devenski's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

The move corresponds with the Mets placing Danny Young (elbow) on the 15-day injured list and transferring Brooks Raley (elbow) to the 60-day IL. Devenski signed a minor-league contract with the Mets in October, and in nine outings out of Syracuse's bullpen this season he's posted a 1.93 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, two saves and a 7:4 K:BB across 9.1 innings.

  • Danny Young RP | ATL

Mets' Danny Young: Placed on IL

The Mets placed Young on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a left elbow sprain.

Young has surrendered five runs (four earned) over 8.1 innings this season, but he seems to have come away from his most recent outing Saturday with an elbow injury. He'll now take at least the next couple of weeks to heal. Chris Devenski will come up from Triple-A Syracuse to give the Mets a fresh arm in the bullpen.

  • Erik Swanson RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Erik Swanson: Re-evaluated after setback

Swanson is headed back to Toronto to be examined after being scratched from a scheduled rehab appearance Tuesday with Single-A Dunedin due to right forearm soreness, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The righty had been slated to make his first game appearance after being diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, but he felt more discomfort in his forearm while warming up. A plan will be mapped out for Swanson after he is re-evaluated, but his absence is likely to extend into at least mid-May.

  • Tom Cosgrove RP | HOU

Cubs' Tom Cosgrove: Optioned to Triple-A

The Cubs optioned Cosgrove to Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Cosgrove made one appearance during his brief time with the Cubs, tossing two scoreless innings. His roster spot is being absorbed by Chris Flexen.

  • Chase Petty P | CIN

Reds' Chase Petty: Call-up official for MLB debut

The Reds selected Petty's contract from Triple-A Louisville ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Cardinals in the second game of a doubleheader.

Cincinnati is designating Petty as its 27th man for the twin bill, so he's expected to be returned to Louisville once the doubleheader concludes. The 22-year-old righty will be making his MLB debut Wednesday after turning in a 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB across 23 innings over his first five starts of the season at the Triple-A level.

  • Javier Assad RP | CHC

Cubs' Javier Assad: Moved to 60-day IL

The Cubs transferred Assad (oblique) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Chris Flexen, whose contract was selected Wednesday. Assad suffered a setback with his left oblique last week and will be shut down for a while.
