  • Red Sox's Brennan Bernardino: Placed on bereavement list

The Red Sox placed Bernardino on the bereavement list Wednesday.

He's exiting the roster to make room for Lucas Giolito (hamstring), who was activated from the 15-day injured list and will start Wednesday in Toronto. Bernardino will miss the next 3-to-7 games while on the bereavement list.

  • Jose Leclerc RP | SD

Athletics' Jose Leclerc: Shifts to 60-day injured list

The Athletics transferred Leclerc (lat) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Leclerc landed on the IL one week ago with a right lat strain and had been slated to receive a second opinion on the injury this week. The Athletics haven't revealed the findings of his recent medical evaluations, but Leclerc clearly wasn't expected to be ready to pitch anytime soon. The veteran righty had struggled in a setup role for the Athletics prior to getting hurt, as he gave up six earned runs on 13 hits and five walks over nine innings in his first 10 appearances of the season.

  • Jacob Lopez RP | ATH

Athletics' Jacob Lopez: Sent back to minors

The Athletics optioned Lopez to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

While making a spot start Tuesday against the Rangers, Lopez was touched up for three runs on six hits and four walks in 2.2 innings. He wasn't going to be available for a few days, so the Athletics will replace him on the 26-man active roster with a fresh bullpen arm in Carlos Duran, who was called up from Triple-A.

  • Blue Jays' Yariel Rodriguez: Drawing opener assignment

Rodriguez will serve as the Blue Jays' opening pitcher in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

Rodriguez was used as a starting pitcher by Toronto last season, but he's worked exclusively in relief in 2025. He hasn't thrown more than two innings in any appearance and will be pitching on two days' rest, so he should be in line for a fairly abbreviated outing. Eric Lauer is likely to follow him in bulk relief.

  • Tyler Gilbert RP | CHW

White Sox's Tyler Gilbert: Optioned to Triple-A

The White Sox optioned Gilbert to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Gilbert allowed one run across two innings of work in an opener assignment Tuesday versus the Brewers and will now head to the minors. Fraser Ellard (hamstring) is back from the 15-day injured list to absorb Gilbert's roster spot.

  • Fraser Ellard RP | CHW

White Sox's Fraser Ellard: Back from injured list

The White Sox activated Ellard (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Ellard missed almost three weeks of action due to a strained right hamstring. The left-handed reliever should go back to working in high-leverage situations in an unsettled White Sox bullpen.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Added to roster

The Mets selected Waddell's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Waddell will serve as a bulk reliever in Wednesday's game versus the Diamondbacks in what will be his first major-league appearance since 2021. The left-hander has posted a 1.54 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB through five starts and 23.1 innings this season with Syracuse.

  • Kevin Herget RP | NYM

Mets' Kevin Herget: Heading back to minors

The Mets optioned Herget to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Herget was with the big club one day, allowing two runs (one earned) over two innings in his lone appearance. Brandon Waddell, who is scheduled to pitch in bulk relief Wednesday, is taking Herget's spot on the roster.

  • Casey Lawrence RP | SEA

Blue Jays' Casey Lawrence: Booted from 40-man roster

The Blue Jays designated Lawrence for assignment Wednesday.

Lawrence helped save the bullpen with 2.2 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox, but he's being sent packing after just one day on the active roster. Eric Lauer was called up from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move and is expected to either start or serve as a bulk reliever in Wednesday's game against Boston.

  • Bryan Shaw RP | CIN

Mariners' Bryan Shaw: Catches on with Seattle

Shaw signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Tuesday and was assigned to Triple-A Tacoma.

He made his organizational debut Tuesday, recording one out while allowing one earned run on one hit and three walks in Tacoma's 5-4 loss to Las Vegas. The 37-year-old right-hander has a long track record of success as a setup man in the big leagues, but he made just five appearances in the majors in 2024 and struggled with the Reds in spring training and during the early part of the minor-league season at Triple-A Louisville before Cincinnati released him earlier this month.
