Peralta (8-4) yielded three runs on seven hits over five-plus innings Tuesday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Pirates.

Peralta rolled through five shutout frames before stumbling in the sixth inning. He gave up three straight hits without recording an out, capped off by Nick Gonzales' three-run shot, which ended his outing. Peralta has won three straight starts but has completed only five innings in each of his last two appearances. It was his first start without issuing a walk since April 2. The 29-year-old righty now owns a 2.90 ERA with a 98:34 K:BB through 93 frames. Peralta is lined up for a road matchup against the Mets next week.

With Ben Brown getting optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Horton figures to stick in the Cubs' rotation when Shota Imanaga (hamstring) returns later this week.

With Imanaga's return imminent, Chicago has to make room in the rotation, and for now it seems like Horton will keep his spot. The Cubs could have gone with a six-man rotation or moved Colin Rea into a long-relief role. However, with Brown getting tagged for eight runs in his start Monday, the team decided he's the one to go for now, with Horton and Rea sticking as starters along with Matthew Boyd and Jameson Taillon. Horton has pitched well during his rookie campaign, compiling a 3.73 ERA across his first eight MLB appearances. He's penciled in to start Friday against the Astros on the road.

Meyer is scheduled to undergo season-ending labral repair surgery on his left hip Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The recovery timeline for Meyer's surgery is roughly 6-8 months, which means his season has officially come to an early end. He'll finish the 2025 campaign with a 4.73 ERA and 1.42 WHIP alongside a 68:20 K:BB earned across 64.2 innings (12 starts).

Freeland (back) threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday, and he remains on track to start Friday versus the Brewers, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Freeland is all but set to return to action Friday in Milwaukee, toeing the rubber for the first time since being placed on the 15-day injured list with back stiffness June 15, retroactive to June 12. It will be a minimum stay on the IL for the left-hander, and he will likely avoid any usage restrictions in the outing. Freeland had posted three consecutive quality starts before going down with the injury, producing a 2.95 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 13 punchouts over 18.1 innings in those outings. The southpaw previously faced Milwaukee at home April 8, surrendering five runs on eight hits while hitting a batter and striking out five others.

The Cubs optioned Brown to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

The Cubs were going to need to clear a spot in the rotation for Shota Imanaga's (hamstring) return later this week, and Brown sealed his fate when he got rocked for eight runs over five innings in Monday's start versus the Cardinals. The righty has offered occasional flashes of brilliance, but they've come with rough patches as well, and Brown will carry a 6.13 ERA back to Iowa.

The Cardinals recalled McGreevy from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

McGreevy is set to start Tuesday's game against the rival Cubs. The rookie right-hander has excelled in spot duty for the Cardinals, collecting a 2.70 ERA and 15:2 K:BB over 16.2 frames. It's a spot start for McGreevy, who is likely to be sent back to Memphis after the outing.

Manaea (oblique) will be shut down for 2-to-3 days after being given a cortisone shot to combat a loose body in his left elbow, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

After missing the first part of the season with a strained oblique, Manaea had appeared set to rejoin the Mets' rotation perhaps after just one more rehab start. The new injury puts Manaea's situation somewhat in flux, although president of baseball operations David Stearns indicated Tuesday that the elbow issue shouldn't set Manaea back more than a few days. The goal is for the southpaw to make another rehab start by the middle of next week before being re-evaluated.

The Mets reinstated Montas (lat) from the 60-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against Atlanta.

The right-hander has been sidelined by a right lat strain since the start of spring training, but he's ready to make his debut for the Mets after inking a one-year, $17 million contract in December. Montas wasn't particularly effective during his six-start rehab assignment with a 12.05 ERA and 12:10 K:BB across 18.2 innings, but he at least built up close to a full workload with 80 pitches over five frames in his final rehab outing.

Cincinnati selected Burns' contract from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

The Reds had already announced Monday that Burns had arrived in Cincinnati and was set to start Tuesday's game against the Yankees, but the team waited a day to make his call-up official. Regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, Burns reached the big leagues after blazing through three levels of the minors this season. Over stops with High-A Dayton, Double-A Chattanooga and Louisville, Burns turned in a 1.77 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 89:13 K:BB in 66 innings across 13 starts. While the Reds are likely to keep a close eye on the 22-year-old's workload over the rest of the season, he possesses the skill set to make a big splash in the majors right away. The Reds optioned reliever Yosver Zulueta to Triple-A to clear room on the active roster for Burns.

Martinez struck out one over a scoreless seventh inning to earn a hold in Monday's 6-1 win over the Yankees.

Martinez, who opened the season in the Reds' rotation, made a second consecutive appearance as a reliever. He served as a bulk-inning reliever in a bullpen game Saturday, while Monday's outing was a traditional relief appearance. Martinez is scheduled to start Friday against the Padres, but he may not be long for the rotation. The organization has prospect Chase Burns going Tuesday, and at some point, Hunter Greene (groin) and Rhett Lowder (forearm) will return. This could be the start of Martinez transitioning to the bullpen.
