Blaze Alexander SS | BAL
Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Fading into reserve role
Alexander is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.
Alexander is on the bench for a third straight game, with all three absences coming against right-handed pitching. The rookie has a lowly .544 OPS over his past nine games and has gotten poor reviews for his work in the field, so he looks like he'll remain in a backup role at shortstop behind Kevin Newman until Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is back from the injured list.

Dylan Moore LF | PHI
Mariners' Dylan Moore: Keeps up hard hitting Tuesday
Moore went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, a triple, a walk and two runs in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.
Moore's propensity for hard contact was on full display again Tuesday, with the veteran utility man belting his seventh and eighth extra-base hits of the season. Moore has already tied a career high with his pair of three-baggers, and with four doubles, he's just under halfway to his 2023 total of nine in that department. The 31-year-old came into Tuesday with a .143 average and 32.3 percent strikeout rate over the prior 10 games, making his first multi-hit effort since April 24 a particularly welcome sight.

Jacob Wilson SS | ATH
Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Moves up to Triple-A
The Athletics promoted Wilson from Double-A Midland to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Wilson made a mockery of Double-A pitching, slashing .455/.473/.705 with three home runs and 13 doubles in 22 games. The 22-year-old is now just one step away from the big leagues less than a year after the Athletics took him with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft. Wilson doesn't project to show much power, but his hit tool has been as advertised thus far in his professional career.

Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU
Athletics' Aledmys Diaz: Starting rehab assignment
Diaz (calf) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas this weekend, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Diaz ran the bases Wednesday, which was the final hurdle he needed to clear before playing in games. He's on the 60-day injured list and won't be eligible for activation until late May, so Diaz will be in store for an extended rehab assignment.

Darell Hernaiz SS | ATH
Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Dealing with severe ankle sprain
Hernaiz, who was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier Wednesday, has been diagnosed with a severe left ankle sprain and will visit with a foot specialist, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Hernaiz was injured during Tuesday's 15-8 loss to the Rangers when he stepped awkwardly on first base and was subsequently placed on the IL. More should be known about a potential timetable for the rookie infielder following his exam, but Hernaiz looks as though he could be sidelined for weeks, if not months. The 22-year-old has slashed .182/.243/.182 over 75 plate appearances with Oakland this season and had recently been serving as the team's everyday shortstop.

Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU
Athletics' Aledmys Diaz: Runs bases Wednesday
Diaz (calf) ran the bases at Oakland Coliseum on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Diaz has been out since late February, first with a groin injury and more recently a calf strain. That he's been cleared to run the bases signals that he shouldn't be too far off from a rehab assignment. Diaz is on the 60-day injured list, so he won't be eligible for activation until late May.

Tim Anderson 2B | LAA
Marlins' Tim Anderson: Sits out Wednesday
Anderson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Dodgers, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Anderson appears to be getting a routine day off while he's accumulated just one hit over his last four games. Vidal Brujan will slide over from second base to replace Anderson at shortstop.

Bobby Witt SS | KC
Royals' Bobby Witt: Gets aboard three times
Witt went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Brewers.
Witt has three multi-hit efforts and four steals over six contests in May, batting .350 (7-for-20) for the month. While other members of the Royals' lineup have plateaued or cooled off altogether, Witt is still going strong from the No. 2 hole. He's slashing .319/.385/.542 with four home runs, 13 steals, 19 RBI and 33 runs scored over 37 games.

Darell Hernaiz SS | ATH
Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Lands on injured list
The Athletics placed Hernaiz on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left ankle injury.
Hernaiz suffered the injury during Tuesday's 15-8 loss to the Rangers when he stepped awkwardly on first base while trying to beat out an infield hit. It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined. Max Schuemann and Brett Harris could handle shortstop for the Athletics while Hernaiz is out.

Dansby Swanson SS | CHC
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Sitting out with sore knee
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that Swanson is absent from the lineup versus the Padres due to a right knee issue, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Counsell added that Swanson tweaked the knee on a slide during an April 25 contest against the Astros. He's considered day-to-day. The Cubs have a scheduled off day Thursday, so Swanson will look to return to action Friday in Pittsburgh. Nico Hoerner is sliding over to shortstop Wednesday, while Miles Mastrobuoni is getting a start at second base.
