  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Gives team early lead

Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-3 loss to Oakland.

Seager cranked his 29th home run in the bottom of the first inning to erase an early 1-0 deficit. He's gone deep five times in the last eight games, as Seager continued a massive season at the dish. His 1.052 OPS ranks second behind only Shohei Ohtani (1.066).

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Playing time ticks up

Smith started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Athletics.

Smith made his fourth start in the last five games, all against right-handers. Unfortunately for Smith, it's been a squandered opportunity, as he's gone 1-for-14 in the four starts. His usage has yo-yoed all season, and with news that Josh Jung (thumb) could return next week, Smith's opportunities should dry up.

  • Jordan Lawlar SS | ARI

    Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Starts again

Lawlar started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 in Friday's 1-0 win over the Cubs.

Lawlar made a second consecutive start after getting called up Thursday. It was a version of the lineup that Arizona manager Torey Lovullo described as "where I'm at right now," to Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic. "I definitely had some options, but I just feel like for right now, I wanted to lean on him a little bit and continue to do so," the manager said. It sounds like Lawlar will be a near-everyday starter.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Phillies' Trea Turner: Homers, steals base in return

Turner went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, a second run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 3-2 loss to Miami.

Turner had missed the past two games on paternity leave, but he celebrated with a homer in his first at-bat back. The $300 million shortstop is slashing .265/.316/.458 with 23 homers, 68 RBI, 88 runs, 30 doubles, five triples and 26 steals in his inaugural season with the Phillies.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Goes yard in win

Bogaerts went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 11-2 win over the Astros.

Bogaerts' homer extended San Diego's lead to 5-1 in the third inning. The shortstop has been dialed in to begin September, going 14-for-27 (.519) with six extra-base hits over the first seven games of the month. He's at a .271/.340/.417 slash line with 17 homers, 49 RBI, 68 runs scored and 14 stolen bases through 136 contests.

  • Marco Luciano SS | NYY

Giants' Marco Luciano: Playing in instructional league

Manager Gabe Kapler said Friday that Luciano (hamstring) has begun playing in instructional league games, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Luciano landed on the minor-league injured list Aug. 13 because of a hamstring strain, but he should be able to return to Triple-A Sacramento within the next week and could potentially get another shot with the Giants before the end of the regular season. The 21-year-old infield prospect went 3-for-11 during a brief cup of coffee with San Francisco in late July.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Sitting against lefty

Crawford is absent from the lineup Friday versus the Rockies.

Paul DeJong will cover shortstop and bat eighth against left-hander Ty Blach. Crawford is slashing just .200/.271/.320 in 281 total plate appearances this year and should continue to sit versus southpaws.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Sitting against lefty

Wendle is not in the lineup Friday against the Phillies.

Jon Berti will start at shortstop and bat eighth with left-hander Cristopher Sanchez taking the mound for Philadelphia. Wendle has an overall .589 OPS on the season and should continue to sit versus southpaws.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Back in lineup

Anderson (neck) is starting at shortstop and batting in the leadoff spot Friday against the Tigers.

Neck stiffness caused Anderson to be a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup, but the issue seems to have subsided after an extra day of rest. The 30-year-old shortstop is 4-for-18 with three runs scored since the start of September.

  • Mason McCoy SS | SD

Blue Jays' Mason McCoy: Sent down to Triple-A

McCoy was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

The utility player is the roster casualty as the Blue Jays bring back Bo Bichette from the injured list. McCoy was hitless in two plate appearances during his brief time in the majors.
