Holton will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Monday's game against the Red Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Holton will be making his second "start" in as many days, after retiring two of three batters faced as an opener in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Rangers. The southpaw hasn't been as effective in the early going this season as he's been in recent years, posting a 5.27 ERA and 10:8 K:BB over 13.2 frames.

The Tigers recalled Madden from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

In his first 21 innings with Toledo this season, Madden holds a 4.71 ERA and 21:12 K:BB. The Tigers are going with a bullpen game Monday against the Red Sox, and Madden is a candidate to enter as a bulk reliever following opener Tyler Holton. Madden posted a 4.30 ERA over six appearances (one start) for Detroit in 2024 before missing all of 2025 with a shoulder strain.

Skubal is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery to address loose bodies in his left elbow and was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday, Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press reports.

Skubal was seen shaking his left arm in discomfort during the seventh inning of his most recent start Wednesday in Atlanta, but after being visited by team trainers, he stayed in the game and struck out the side to complete his night. Though Skubal indicated over the weekend that he was able to stick to his usual between-starts program and felt ready to take the hill for Monday's series opener versus the Red Sox, the Tigers scratched him just hours before first pitch. According to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic, manager A.J. Hinch said that Skubal's arm locked up on him Sunday, prompting the Tigers to shut down the star southpaw for what the team hopes is an "easy process and procedure." An official timeline for Skubal's return won't be established until his procedure is performed, but elbow scopes often keep pitchers out for 2-to-3 months.

Durbin is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Detroit.

It appears to be a routine day off for Durbin, who had started each of the previous 16 contests. The Red Sox will roll out Andruw Monasterio at third base in Monday's series opener.

Skubal has been scratched from his scheduled start Monday against the Red Sox due to an undisclosed injury, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Though Skubal was able to finish out his most recent start last Wednesday in Atlanta, he was seen grabbing at and massaging his left forearm during the seventh inning and was visited on the mound by a team trainer before staying in the game. Per Jason Beck of MLB.com, the two-time Cy Young Award winner said over the weekend that he was able to complete his between-starts bullpen session Friday and was feeling good heading into Monday's start, but the Tigers may not have been as convinced that he was fully healthy. More on Skubal's status will be known when manager A.J. Hinch addresses the media prior to Monday's game. Heyman relays that the Tigers' decision to scratch Skubal is viewed as precautionary, so at this stage, the southpaw is expected to avoid a stint on the injured list.

Blubaugh didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Red Sox, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out five.

Jarren Duran's homer in the fifth inning was the lone run given up by Blubaugh, who served as Houston's bulk reliever Sunday after Cody Bolton went just 2.1 innings. While Blubaugh's ERA still sits at an uninspiring 5.32, the right-hander has been sharp of late, allowing just two runs while striking out 12 in his last 11.1 innings.

Bolton did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Red Sox, allowing four hits and a walk over 2.1 scoreless innings. He struck out three.

While it was technically Bolton's third start of the year, he essentially served as the opener in what became a bullpen game for the Astros. It was a solid showing overall for the right-hander, as he navigated his way through traffic to hold the Red Sox scoreless. Bolton's ERA now sits at 4.63 through 11.2 innings this season with a 1.80 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB.

Peterson (triceps) has made two starts for Triple-A Columbus since being activated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday, covering seven innings and striking out six batters while yielding one earned run on four hits and one walk.

Peterson was shelved to begin the season after being diagnosed in late February with a right triceps strain, but he appears to have made a seamless recovery from the injury and was able to join the Columbus rotation last week without requiring a rehab assignment. The Guardians added the 26-year-old righty to their 40-man roster over the winter, but he remains somewhat buried on the organizational depth chart and may need the Cleveland rotation to lose multiple key arms before getting the chance to make his MLB debut.

Triple-A Columbus placed Gomez on its 7-day injured list April 5 due to a right shoulder strain.

After being added to Cleveland's 40-man roster over the winter, Gomez has yet to make his 2026 organizational debut due to the shoulder injury, which he likely sustained at some point during spring training. The right-hander has yet to pitch at the Triple-A level after splitting time with High-A Lake County and Double-A Akron in 2025 while submitting a 2.96 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 139:48 K:BB in 121.2 innings between the two stops.

Sandlin (elbow) struck out four while yielding two hits and no walks over four scoreless innings Saturday in his debut for Triple-A Charlotte after being reinstated from the 7-day injured list.

Acquired from the Red Sox in February, Sandlin's organizational debut was delayed until late April after his throwing progression was slowed down during spring training due to a bout with right elbow soreness. After making a pair of rehab starts at High-A Winston-Salem, Sandlin was cleared to join Charlotte and turned in a gem Sunday, recording his 12 outs on an efficient 48 pitches. Sandlin turned 25 in February and likely won't require much more development time in the minors, so he'll stand a good chance at getting a look in the White Sox rotation at some point later this season.
