Aaron Rodgers QB | PIT
Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Hopeful for postseason return
Rodgers is targeting a return to action during the playoffs after undergoing an innovative surgery Wednesday in Los Angeles to repair his torn left Achilles' tendon, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network report.
Achilles tears have historically been season-ending injuries, with Rams running back Cam Akers -- who needed just under five months to recover from surgery in 2021 -- having thus far staged the fastest-known recovery from the injury. Rodgers is hopeful to match or beat that five-month recovery timeline, which would fall just under a week before Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. According to the report, Rodgers and the Jets are optimistic that he'll be in store for an accelerated rehab after his surgery included a procedure to place an internal bridge or "speed bridge" into the ruptured Achilles. The speed bridge is designed to better protect the repaired tendon and open the door for a return from surgery in as little as four months, though there are no guarantees, given that the procedure is a relatively novel one. In addition, Rodgers is expected to receive platelet-rich plasma injections to aid in accelerating the healing process. In a best-case scenario, Rodgers could be ready to play by mid-January, but that probably isn't an outcome the Jets are banking on, even if they claim a playoff spot.

C.J. Stroud QB | HOU
Texans' C.J. Stroud: Expected to play Week 2
Stroud (shoulder) is expected to suit up for Sunday's game against the Colts, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Stroud popped up on Friday's injury report and is officially listed as questionable for Week 2 with a sore throwing shoulder, but the Texans don't believe the issue is serious enough to keep the rookie quarterback sidelined Sunday. Official word on Stroud's status will come around 11:30 a.m. ET, when the Texans release their inactive list approximately 90 minutes prior to Sunday's kickoff. In his NFL debut in the Texans' Week 1 loss to the Ravens, Stroud completed 28 of 44 passes for 242 yards without a touchdown or interception.

Tim Boyle QB | TEN
Jets' Tim Boyle: Officially joins active roster
The Jets signed Boyle off their practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
In the wake of Aaron Rodgers' torn left Achilles, Boyle is now in line to back up Zach Wilson under center. The Jets opted to stay in-house for the initial solution at quarterback on a short week, but it still seems likely they will add a veteran at some point. In the meantime, Boyle will operate as the No. 2 option.

C.J. Stroud QB | HOU
Texans' C.J. Stroud: Iffy for Week 2 with shoulder issue
Stroud is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts after being a limited participant in practice Friday due to a right shoulder injury.
Stroud had been off the Texans' injury report all week until he was added Friday on account of the shoulder issue. it's unclear if Stroud entered Friday's session already nursing the injury or if he hurt his shoulder at some point during practice instead. Regardless, fantasy managers considering the rookie quarterback in Week 2 lineups are now advised to track his status ahead of Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff. In the event that Stroud is unable to play, the Texans would be left with Davis Mills and Case Keenum as their options under center.

Aaron Rodgers QB | PIT
Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Aiming to return in 2024
Rodgers (Achilles) implied Friday during his appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he intends to return to the field for the Jets in 2024, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. "Give me the doubts...give me the things that you think can should or will happen. All I need is that one little extra percent of inspiration. That's all I need," Rodgers said.
Before the Jets acquired him from the Packers in April, Rodgers famously took his time earlier in the offseason to decide whether he wanted to continue his playing career in 2023. Rodgers ultimately opted against retirement in order to play a 19th NFL season, only for it to end after just four snaps Monday, when he suffered a torn Achilles' tendon in his Jets debut in the team's 22-16 overtime win over the Bills. Per Rapoport, Rodgers told McAfee that he experienced "a lot of sadness, a lot of tears" as a result of the significant injury, but he had surgery Wednesday and now appears to be committed to attacking his rehab with the intention of being ready for the 2024 season. Though he'll turn 40 years old in December and will be working his way back from major surgery, Rodgers seems optimistic that he's capable of returning to top form.

Kirk Cousins QB | LV
Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Four scoring tosses in loss
Cousins completed 31 of 44 passes for 364 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Vikings' 34-28 loss to the Eagles on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble.
As was the case in a Week 1 upset loss to the Buccaneers four days earlier, Cousins put together an elite fantasy performance in defeat that was only marred by a lost fumble on a sack early in the third quarter that led to an Eagles touchdown. The veteran once again unsurprisingly displayed his greatest chemistry with Justin Jefferson, with whom he connected on 11 occasions for 159 yards. However, Cousins' quartet of scoring tosses went elsewhere, as he hit T.J. Hockenson for a pair of five-yard touchdowns and added 62- and 10-yard connections with rookie Jordan Addison and K.J. Osborn, respectively. Cousins has already put up over 600 pass attempts in a season on three separate occasions during his long career, and with 88 through two games in the new campaign, he's well on his way to surpassing the mark yet again. Cousins will look to continue his strong start to the season in a Week 3 home matchup against Justin Herbert and the Chargers on Sunday, Sept. 24.

Jalen Hurts QB | PHI
Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Three total TDs in win
Hurts completed 18 of 23 passes for 193 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Eagles' 34-28 win over the Vikings on Thursday night. He also rushed 12 times for 35 yards and two more scores.
Hurts' yardage numbers certainly won't set fantasy managers' pulses racing, but the All-Pro quarterback's three touchdowns went a long way to making up for it. Hurts' one score through the air was a beauty of a 63-yard pass to DeVonta Smith early in the third quarter to help extend to the Eagles' lead to 20-7 at the time. Hurts also crossed the goal line on one-yard runs in the second and third quarter, his first two rushing touchdowns of the campaign. The fourth-year pro has curiously fallen short of the 200-yard mark through the air in the first two games of the season, but Thursday, D'Andre Swift's 175-yard rushing night helped keep Hurts' workload light and efficient. The dynamic signal-caller now gets some extra rest before a Monday night, Sept. 25 road showdown against the Buccaneers.

Aaron Rodgers QB | PIT
Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Undergoes surgery
Rodgers underwent surgery to repair his torn left Achilles on Wednesday, Kimberley A. Martin of ESPN reports.
Rodgers sustained the injury in his Jets debut Monday against Buffalo and will be out for the rest of the season. Dr. Neal ElAttrache completed the surgery, which Rodgers indicated was successful in a post on Instagram. He will now begin a long recovery, with the potential goal of returning for the 2024 season.

Jaren Hall QB | SEA
Vikings' Jaren Hall: Serving as emergency option
Hall (coach's decision) is inactive for the Vikings' matchup with the Eagles on Thursday Night Football.
Although he's inactive, Hall will serve as Minnesota's emergency third quarterback in Thursday's contest. Unless Kirk Cousins and Nick Mullens are knocked out of the game, Hall will be a healthy scratch.

Tanner McKee QB | PHI
Eagles' Tanner McKee: Inactive again Week 2
McKee (coach's decision) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Vikings.
McKee has yet to dress for either of the Eagles' first two games of the season while he's stuck behind both Jalen Hurts and Marcus Mariota on the depth chart at quarterback. Unless one of the latter two players misses time at any point over the next 16 weeks, the rookie sixth-round pick out of Stanford will likely remain a fixture on the Eagles' inactive list.
