  • Royals' Michael Massey: Idle against southpaw

Massey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

The left-handed hitter had started the last five games but will get a breather while southpaw Kyle Freeland toes the rubber for Colorado. Nick Loftin will check in for Massey at second base and bat second.

  • Nicky Lopez 2B | TEX

Rangers' Nicky Lopez: Getting breather Sunday

Lopez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Lopez will retreat to the bench after starting 10 straight games at second base or shortstop. Cam Cauley will get the nod Sunday at the keystone, which is where Lopez is expected to see the bulk of his playing time after Corey Seager returned from the injured list Friday.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | PHI

Giants' Luis Arraez: Good to go Sunday

Arraez (cramps) will start at second base and bat leadoff Sunday against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The 29-year-old was scratched from the starting nine ahead of Saturday's 6-5 loss after experiencing cramps during pregame warmups -- which first forced him to exit Friday's contest -- but he'll rejoin the lineup Sunday. Arraez batted .316 over 24 games in July, though he didn't provide much pop with just five extra-base hits and a .367 slugging percentage, which is down from .446 for the campaign. The 29-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent this winter and could be moved ahead of Monday's trade deadline.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Taking seat against southpaw

Palacios is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The left-handed hitter will be on the bench for a second straight day, as White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay takes the mound after lefty Noah Schultz worked in bulk relief Saturday. Ryan Vilade will cover the keystone Sunday in place of Palacios.

  • Willi Castro 2B | COL

Rockies' Willi Castro: Matches career high in homers

Castro went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored Saturday against the Royals.

Castro popped a home run in the fifth inning, his 12th of the season and third in his last four starts. The 12 long balls matches his career high, which he previously set in 2024 across 635 plate appearances. Castro continues to put together a solid season, racking up 50 runs scored and seven stolen bases across 94 contests.

  • Nick Sogard 2B | BOS

Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Fills in at first base

Sogard started at first base and went 0-for-2 with a walk in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Dodgers.

Sogard filled in for the injured Willson Contreras, who is in the concussion protocol. Sogard's stint at first is expected to be a short one, as Boston interim manager Chad Tracy told Tim Healy of The Boston Globe that Contreras is expected to play Sunday barring a setback.

  • JJ Wetherholt 2B | STL

Cardinals' JJ Wetherholt: Handed day off

Wetherholt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

Wetherholt will get his first day off since July 8 while the Cardinals go with Jose Fermin at the keystone. The NL Rookie of the Year frontrunner has been sluggish at the plate since the All-Star break, slashing .190/.292/.333 with three home runs, three steals, five RBI and 11 runs over 16 games.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Goes deep in win

Hoerner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Yankees.

Hoerner hit just his sixth home run of the season, though two of those have come in his last six games. During that span, the infielder is batting .455 with a 1.206 OPS, two stolen bases and seven RBI. Overall, Hoerner is slashing .257/.320/.356, and he's swiped 16 bases, which remains his greatest fantasy asset. He's trending upward and may start to approach his career .279 batting average if he keeps up his recent pace.

  • Matt McLain 2B | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: Logs steal in loss

McLain went 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Pirates.

McLain has started three straight games since coming off the injured list, slotting in at second base and hitting ninth in the order. The stolen base was his 12th of the season, and it provided a strong sign that the calf injury that landed him on the IL is no longer an issue.

  • Giants' Osleivis Basabe: Carries offense in narrow loss

Basabe went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and four total RBI in a loss to the Padres on Saturday.

Basabe was ultra productive out of the No. 9 slot in the order in his first start of the season. The 25-year-old put San Francisco on the board with a solo homer in the third inning, then came up huge in a clutch spot in the eighth when he laced a two-out, two-RBI double off All-Star closer Mason Miller to tie the score 5-5. Basabe had all of one homer over 96 MLB plate appearances coming into Saturday, so his display of power was quite unexpected. His ability to play multiple infield positions could come in handy for San Francisco, but Basabe isn't expected to start on a regular basis.
